As usual, one of the best sources of information on the topic, in clarity and completeness.

Why should we not use an overlocker? Is it because the fabric is to thick and it would be hard for it to cut the sequins? Thanks so much

Great tips Lucy. I wanted to make one last Christmas but was terrified of the sequins! Going through the machine and the needles breaking. Your vlog has given me the confidence to try a sew a top..... your top!
Love your hints and tips and thanks for taking time to show us. X

Hi Lucy thank you for that really informative video. Because of lockdown I’ve started to learn how to sew. Fun fun mostly but also for costumes. I wear a lot of sequins as I’m a drag show and want to know what would be the best machine to buy as I will be getting a machine that will be mostly sewing sequins. Industrial? Heavy duty? Or normal. Thank you again for your excellent videos you’re gorgeous xxx

I would shorten the lining a bit because it shows out from under the bottom of sequin material.

Thanks for the feedback/suggestion, the lining is shorter than the top so you can see a little glimpse of the sequin fabric then the lining, but I guess it depends how much I'm moving around and there is a lot of that going on in this video lol

I am sewing a sequin dot fabric for my cousin to wear in a baton group in parade and i have tried three needles and they are not catching every stitch, (i am not using my own machine either- i am birrowing my aunts machine) In addition, the needles are gunking up, so i am using alcohol to ungunk, but still finding i am not able to sew even part of a side seam. I have not tried removing the dots yet. Just thought of it last night after a day of frustration. The fabric also seems to have plastic curly treads that come out. Its very light weight and stretchy. I have tried microdot, ball and universal needles size ( 10 to size 14) and only size 14 universal w gutterman thread is working for the short seams. I have resorted to hand sewing the side seams. The fabric does a little better if i have interfacing on top side. ( but its the ugliest stitching i have ever sewed) . I have not tried removing the sequine dots. we will ask other people who previously sewed this, but i cannot use the “white” machine i have. She wants three more of these dresses in different colors! There is zig zag on this machine, which i have never used and not tried, so i will experiment with that. But i think i need to hand sew this outfit. ( very simple pattern) and come up with better plan for next one.
