I'm not sure if you'll read this but please do trollhunters, three below, wizards, and trollhunters rise of the titans it's all within the same universe
I still think my favorite trope gag was when her three friends all got a letter inviting Elena's "best friend" to tour her new ship, and the first boy was all "I'M Elena's BFF?? 🤩" and the second boy was all "I'M Elena's BFF?? 🤩" and Naomi was all "There's a NEW SHIP?? 🤩"
Speaking as a Mexican and someone who grew up in a abusive household. I personally don't think the message that "family is everything" should be thrown in every latin media we consume. But I will say that I can understand why it's always there. Most of our traditions are heavily based on that message/idea . 🤷🏻♀️ which can bring a mixed bag of results depending on which family you get in the lottery that is called life.
Tbf some more recent Latin media keeps that but adds the fact that you are the one that pick your family. Like family of choice being everything. Such as fast and the furious.
Thankfully we are starting to part from the toxic mindset that is "you must stay with your family even if they're a-holes to you because they're your family"
Actually Sofia was supposed to be the first Latina Princess, she just doesn't have the coloring of her mother. It was in some of the online promotional stuff before the series Edit: HISPANIC princess, excuse me. Her mother was supposed to be from a country based on Spain. Apparently the confusion came from one of the producers mistakenly referring to her as Latina
@IcecteamOni-x4v me or him? 😅 to be fair Disney does the 'this is the first ___ character' thing at least five different times before they drop it, so it's a really easy mistake
@Gin_isnotmyname yes, Sofia and Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 were both examples of Disney basically measuring viewer response to Hispanic representation. They started adding more obvious Hispanic characters to their shows afterwards
Idk, personally on my experience as a latin american person, my family does tend to use like "The importance of family" as a way of getting out of issues like "Oh this person was awful to me!" "you need to forgive them because they are F A M I L Y", if anything it just seems like a cultural excuse here to get away with backstabbing other family members but hey it might just be that my family sucks. Regardless seeing such focus on family by american media trying to represent us, just feels off and really forced, like at most we sometimes have a bigger connection with extended family but besides that, i guess we are not that far off from americans, maybe at one point this was way more important culturally but growing up, not really...
Well, Esteban was guilty for it. The song Something I would never do did talk about it. Never too late, he was regretting everything. And Elena, she took it all in emotions and revenge.
Hola! I'm Puerto rican and I relate to Elena emmensely. Growing up in a broken home back when I was a kid in the ninety's due to divorce and childhood trauma, I loved the close familia Elena had and showed. It gave me hope that I could have that one day. It wasn't forced at all! Elena is the older sister I needed growing up. I love her bond with Isa and later Marisa and Marzel.
I grew up with some emphasis on family but it was laced with cynicism. My mom is Mexican and my dad is Guatemalan, both emphasize that family IS important but mostly immediate family. And by that I mean that they want me and my siblings to rely on each other more than extended family since my aunts & uncles from my dad's side are willing to do crazy things for inheritance 😅 Edit: I forgot to mention, my parents don't let bad behavior slide. And my parents are the type that no matter how much they love you, if you do something heinous they'll cut you out of their lives (which brings back the emphasis on family take)
I still remember being so proud of myself for connecting Elena of Avalor to the amulet of Avalor before watching the show. This is a very fun world with fun characters and definitely fun songs
I think you were disappointed because Elena of Avalor is classic latino drama all over the place. And that's why I love it so much lol, as a latam person, I personally consider it a masterpiece. Also yes, I LOVE Elenaomi, glad to see I was not crazy about them. There is something clearly going on 🧐
I didn’t see the movie either but she’s from Rosas and that doesn’t look very Latin American to me and I don’t remember her parents ever immigrating from anywhere so I guess she’s just Creole and not Latina. I don’t know, human races are pretty arbitrary.
Theorically she should be spanish, as rosas is based on spain. Or at least morroco because it was based on the period of time where morrocos invaded spain and the culture was mixed (sorry, english is not my first language i dont know if i write it well) but for somw reason they decided to go with some afro Latina based?? Even though the culture they wanted to representate wasnt similar at all, like bro
@@yl861Asha is a Mediterranean princess if we are geographically and chronologically accurate. However, the location of Rosas in the Mediterranean was never revealed in order to maintain the image that the city seemed like a fusion of all the medieval cultures of the Mediterranean.
never noticed how CLEARLY in love Elana and Naomi are when I was 10 but now. Oh my goodness. Someone was kicking their feet and twirling their hair when the "Will you be my Chancellor?" line made it through *with* the double hand hold and the facial expressions in full swing. I do remember a LOT of the first season, and very fondly at that, but it fell off so hard, I'm glad we stopped getting cable and I never finished the series.
@@omarvazquez4075 BUT IMAGINE the duo of "attacks with fists/physically" and "Attacks with magic" is always such a nice thing!! and also with how confident and reliable Nahomi with earlier season Mateo with imposter syndrome, it could've been so cute!!! also honestly even despite the ending of elena, I am still going to die on the hill of the ship mateo x elena cause they lift eachother sm!!
Nerdy um actually here: animals in the normal world of ATLA were a mix of two or more animals while the spirit realm animals were just one full animal. Only exception was Bosco which surprised our main characters when they were invited to his birthday party. I never saw TLOK so I don't know the rules for that iteration of the spirit realm. Edit: I've never had chef boyardee or spaghettios
I think the animals in the spirit realm were suppose to based on Alebrijes and that's why their color pallets are the way they are. tho tbf Alebrijes are mire akin to the chimeras from FMA in the sense that they have multiple animals on them that they not always look symmetrical.
@@ride-playerbb2818I’m pretty sure the penguins were mixed too in the pilot episode? I might be wrong. And it’s a “flying bison” with six legs so one can argue they are kinda mixed. Only Bosco was a regular old bear
this actually gives more context to why the king had a bear as his pet. spliced animals in avatar are the norm in the world but having just pure animal is way more a rarity so of course the king having a pet bear instead of a platypus-bear, wolf-bear, etc which are way more common
The reason they cut out Sofia in the recap in the first episode of Season 1 is because Secret of Avalor actually aired AFTER season 1 began. They didn’t want to spoil Secret of Avalor for the viewer. They did the same with Sofia the first, “Once Upon a Princess” aired after half of season 1 had come out.
Don't you dare insult my childhood memory! I'll have you know I dressed up as Elena for Halloween several years in a row! With a talking, light up staff to boot! (Batteries required) I also think lesson/moral wise, Elena worked better than Sofia, just overall Elena and crew were much more effective as rulers than Sofia's family, Sofia basically just abandoned her poor friends. Elena taught real world lessons while also protecting her kingdom. Also, the sponsorship was great 💀 I've never vaped in my life but now I want fume
@@snapdragonslairI have had multiple things that I stop playing with and years later I come back and they somehow still work without changing the batteries it’s strange
if you wanna hear more about füm from someone who hasn’t vaped and isnt paid by them, search for “just another paid promotion füm”. its by shane mcgillicuddy, and he often talks about these things. iirc its not as good as ads say (shocker). also, just remember that inhaling things isnt always good, and its better to avoid inhaling stuff you dont need to in general
Wait, he was the same guy who played as bobo? I never noticed that before, I mean it has been a while since I seen Elena of Avalor. And I know Plagg from the show miraculous, kwami of the holders of the black cat with the power of destruction.
38:02 The audience knew it but we saw Elena accept Esteban's lie and him dodging the consequences. I actually really like that they slow burned that internal reveal, it's not often you see kids shows go for dramatic suspense over mystery and a shock reveal. While there's issues with the arc, especially since they had a limit to how many plot relevant episodes they could do, the message around Esteban repeating his mistakes is one about needing to address your issues before moving on. 42:45 They actually did update the main characters models to reflect their aging.
33:00 This truly IS stupid 😒 Ash CHOSE to leave & become a Malvago & not come back for years when she promised she would only be gone a single year - that is on HER. As Victor said, she could’ve come back at ANY time to tell them her training was going to take a lot longer. There was nothing else for Victor to do but pick up the slack & raise Carla alone.
5:15 i hope you do know that füm’s flavors are aromatherapy essential oils which can be really harmful to the body to breathe in like that. yeah it might be less harmful than nicotine but you’re still breathing in something that could cause pneumonia
Yeah, I totally get that they need to pay the bills and all that, I'm with it, we all need to be able to afford groceries, but füm is also one of those companies, you REALLY should avoid endorsing. Same with BetterHelp and ScentBird, iirc
Hola. Firstly, I love Elena of Avalor. The series is heartfelt, complex and emotionally authentic. Elena herself is compassionate, determined and relatable. She's touched my life and has helped me heal from trauma through her own healing journey. While Esteban is NOT a favorite character of mine, he did contribute to Elena’s growth and story overall. The only nitpicks I have is with the airing schedule and the fact that Disney didn’t leave Elena on Disney Channel where she belonged. She was for older kids and teens. And her narrative reflects that. She’s sixteen when the show starts and 20 when it ends. Her bond with Isabel is one of the many things I love about the series!
I agree!! I especially love Dreamcatcher when she says to Esteban “what you did to our familia, to our kingdom, it makes me feel furious, and hurt, and disappointed. And I miss you and I’m ANGRY at myself for missing you, but more than anything I’m just so sad.” I really felt that when I first watched it with what I was going through at the time. Elena is one of my fav shows ever, and I agree, it absolutely should’ve stayed on Disney Channel.
@@sapphic_sapphire_ hi! I hope you are doing well! Gracias for helping me feel seen and not so alone when it comes to sharing my story on a users channel that doesn’t agree or want it. I really appreciate it! The part you’re talking about in Dreamcatcher had me sobbing because I can empathize and relate to Elena so much! That’s how I feel about my own trauma due to how my family invalidates my pain and wants me to let it go. I hope you have an awesome week and weekend! My best friend and I’ve run and it’s called spirit of Avalor. It’s an Elena of Avalor podcast.
@@gtd5626 Hola! I hope you're doing well! I never understood that viewership thing. Elena should have stayed on Disney Channel. She is NOT for little kids! Her story is complex and emotionally authentic. She dealt with PTSD and survivor's guilt due to watching her parents being murdered. THey portrayed her PTSD with respect and realistically. Elena helped me on my own trauma healing journey. I've always been frustrated at Disney for how they treated Elena. She was the older sister I needed growing up in a broken home as a pre-teen and teenager during the ninety's. If you like podcasts, my best friend and I host one where we review episodes of Elena and the show in general. She means a lot to us, so you won't run into any bashing. We critic the show fairly, but it's nothing like what this guy did in his video. The only character we come close to bashing is Esteben and Prince Alonzo. Other than that, we're loving and fair. Our podcast is called Spirit of Avalor.
I just finished the video WHAT WAS THAT!? My Elena de Avalor nostalgia ruined in such a ruthless way I definitely not expected to see Sofia playmovil version today
0:07 Actually in Spanish it’s pronounced e-LEH-na with emphasis on the second syllable rather than the first, so both prior ways people pronounced it were wrong lol
32:45 I think Elena is starting have a lack of direction with story. Hate it when that happens. Edit: well unfortunately that assumption was right Elena can join the ranks of Slugterra and Max Steel for losing focus in its story.
Yeah. I loved both those sjows but they were so lackluster storywise, but i really loved the concepts and characters, especially Max Steel, i loved Max and Turbos buddy chemistry
bro....I don't think she put Shuriki in the orb of night...pretty sure she actually killed her. I can't see why her "blaze" spell would suddenly work differently and trap her instead of burning her. Cruz just took the orb because its a powerful object not because Shuriki is inside it
Elena as you pronounce it it's how it's said in latam No sé, cuando era chiquita lo veia y no sabia que era un spin off, cuando apareció Sofia yo me emocione un montón
I was about to said the same thing! that how it's pronounce. Also nunca vi ni Sofia ni Elena, me temo que no son de mi generación pero me agrada ver estos "deep dives" y reseñas. =)
oooo you NEED to watch maya and the three! Its a wonderful show that definitely IS a telanovela. Also as a hispanic person, for me family was and IS a big thing. Its the people you lean on most ....but that also means you dont cut off those that are toxic. Certainly you try to teach them to be better but you also need to excuse them or else THE HOUSE BREAKS APART AND EXPLODES.
I was a kid watching Sophia the First when this show came out. There where a bunch of commercials hyping this show up and I had seen the connection between the Amulet of Avalor and Elena of Avalor so I checked it out. Around this time Sophia's Amulet turns pink in Sophia the First, (Put a pin in that it will matter later) So the first episode airs and it's "First Day of Rule" but what's interesting is that it begin with a prologue explaining how Elena had been trapped inside an amulet and defeated an evil witch, freeing her kingdom. I remember feeling rather confused as to why this show teased at an amazing story in the prologue only for it not the come up in the show that much. I felt the show should have just started with that story. But here's the reason why I was confused, because they aired the first episode BEFORE the movie. I checked and the first episode aired on July 22, 2016, and the Movie, Elena and the Secret of Avalor, aired on November 20, 2016. The show actually managed to air TEN episode before the movie came out. And remember around the time the first episode came out Sophia's Amulet turned pink? And remember It turned pink because Elena was free. Well I checked what episode it turned pink in, it was S3E21 Tale of the Noble Night, which aired on July 1, 2016. But here's the kicker, the episode STARTS with her amulet being pink, but it still purple for the entirety of the previous episode, Dad's and Daughters day. That means for five months both shows maintained continuity for a movie that hadn't even aired yet.
Shuriki had the potential to be a great villain. Having gone back through the show recently I looked at every power she used. Shuriki has many magical powers including: Killing curse Smoke manipulation Flight Summoning thunder and storm clouds Creating cages made of magical energy (which she used to imprison Noblins) Could grant magic powers (implied as she promised Victor and Clara to make them dark wizards) Age spells (which she used to keep herself young) Spell casting (which she used to drain a magical jewel to restore her youth and forge a new wand) Potioncraft I wish she didn't lose her new wand so soon and got to use it along with the sceptre of night so we could really see how powerful her sorcery was. I also really wish we got a full wizard duel between Shuriki and Alacazar. He came back for barely an episode and all he did was blast Zopilote before dying.
Elena actually killed Shuriki, that’s why she didn’t appear again. She dead. And to bring her back would mean they can defy death and that removed literally every stake.
As a multishipper, I was thrilled with this series, because they show a possible romantic path with every main character xD As for the story and develop... yeah, it could be better, but I still enjoyed it!
The reason Sofia was edited out of the recap is because Disney aired the pilot episode out of order. The show aired 6 months prior, so they had to edit out any mention of Sofia to avoid spoilers. So elena and the secret of avalor wasn't actually a pilot in the end, it was a prequel/crossover.
The whole thing about "needing a white person as a lead cause mainly white people watch" or "needing a male/female protagonist for a male/female audience" is kinda bull crap to begin with. I have never watched a film cause of the gender or skin color of the protagonist... and like I am a run of the mill straight white guy.
"We should ask CHILDREN if we should invest in school cuz their actually experiencing it" Like the last 20 years worth of kids: Bro stop funding this shit they do not know how to run a school
I definitely agree there's some stumbling towards the end. I love the show, I think it's good over all but the handling of Esteban especially needed some work. I also love the episode where we find out definitively that Esteban WAS treated like family and that the problems were all within himself. The reasoning they give towards the end to try and make him sympathetic just do not work. If you wanted this issue of not being listened to ring true you needed to plant it waaaayyyy earlier, like Season One early.
@bearerofbadnews1375 I can't agree more! Me and my friends was so angry when we watched it! It's really fascinating how you can ruin all these seasons with just one film. And I really don't understand why they didn't want to end this story normally. I heard some rumors about continuation but I don't think it will happen and maybe we should be glad because of that lol. I don't think the ending of the last film could be fixed.
Ahh I loved the first 2 season ish, the later seasons had a bunch of timeline plotholes and it kinda took out some of my investment in it, but it's nothing compared to the movie. The nature spirits were really pretty and cute, and that's basically the only thing I liked about it
This show needed a fourth season to make more room for the villains. Chatana sounded like a much bigger threat but she was defeated so easily. Ash had a good start but she slowly decayed as a villain quickly into season 3. I understand this is a children's show but come on there was so much potential wasted and season 3 felt like a rush job.
I was so struck by this title that I failed to realize that I never watched EOA past season 1, which is why it's still so good in my mind. I now see its downfall. Also, what was that animation for the Sofia the First characters????
They had to create new models for them because elena of avalor apparently runs on a different engine, and clearly they did not spend a lot of time on them.
The thing about Elena of Avalor is that it swung way harder than a Disney Junior show really had any right to try. In a lot of ways that hampered it because they just couldn't really execute those ideas within the restrictions that even main channel kids shows struggle with, but I really do appreciate that this show tried and that the younger audiences got a taste of storytelling that took them seriously. Sometimes something is more great then it is good.
10:27 latina here! not much really . It would be the equivalent of how France especially paris is always the city of romance in movies ( and i can Bet your ass that every single french person wants that stereotype to DIE) 23:21 also fun fact those are alebrijes , a traditional mexican sculpture that is created by combinating different animals together
Esteban didn't need hookers and blow because he had the GILF! 🤣 Shuriki was also present at the Elena Vs. Ash olaball game in the finale of the show. I liked Elena of Avalor. It was enjoyable. Some plots could've been executed better, but overall, it was a good series, better than anything Disney's doing these days. Nice video.
As a Hispanic myself, I absolutely loved Elena as a kid and had all the main characters dolls. And to answer the family question, yeahhh no. Personally, my family has issues with each other and most of my Hispanic friend’s family’s as well 😭
My family had problems too, but it was my mother side, who was not Latina. I love Elena and the way they portrayed family. I loved how different it was and how close they were! My father side was a lot like this give or take obviously. So they did a really awesome job! I still watch the series and write fan for it till this day. Elena touched my life in a very special way, and helped me heal from trauma.
Malvago just sounds like they went: "hmmm we need a name for an evil warlock... OMG Mago Malvado... Mal...vago... MALVAGO. Well done, guys!" and I really want at least one character to go: "... that's it? That's the name? Really?".
@@Plexxis_SugarPom Idk all I can find people talking about is fans being racist/ignorant, I'm not seeing any thing about the show itself having any issues like that, just western fans. Also the show was designed for a Chinese audience to boost lego sales in china so the show being anti Chinese sounds like a terrible business strategy
@@shanon4768 that's true, it'd be bad for business to make the Chinese market hate the thing for the Chinese market. And racist fans come everywhere sadly, even in a show that takes place in China and has Chinese characters. Maybe the immediate response from fans when the animation for season 5 trailer? I know a whole lot of the fandom got so mad and upset (me too but in my defence, there was no warning at all so emotional whiplash was gonna happen)
29:17 normal flavor spaghettios make my tummy hurt but i havent had chef boy rd in years so i cant remember its taste chicken meatball spaghettios, on the other hand, do not make my tummy hurt. so spaghettios.
Chef Boyardee I bought Spaghetti-o's for the first time since I was a kid and I was super excited but it was terrible. Like Chef Boyardee has sugar added but it never registers as sweet, Spaghetti-o's was literally so sickly sweet I physically couldn't eat more than 5 bites.
Season 3 was a hot-ass mess and I will DIE ON THAT HILL no matter what the fandom says. Basically, they tried to do too much in too little time. Now I will never say that serialised is automatically better than episodic, but by S3, EoA had to PICK ONE. They set up this big story and then just didn’t deliver it properly. Up until The Magic Within special, I had little issue aside from what I now recognise as the degradation of Ash Delgado's character. But once Esteban's secret was revealed to the family, things went downhill. Fast. And honestly fixing it wouldn't take much. Just a few tweaks here and there would have solved a lot of the dropped plot threads. For example, they didn't need to create a new, one-off villain for "Team Isa" when they had a whole team of them to utilise. Even if it was just them causing a distraction while prepping for something bigger. Then there was the annoying subplot of "Crash Course." I am all for Gabe having and admitting to his insecurities. Keep that. Just do it better. Then, there's the plot of "The Birthday Cruise." I have nothing and I mean nothing against Princess Chloe. BUT, the whole "I don't know how to make friends" plot would have hit harder and worked better with Carla. A character who had been set up from DAY ONE to be lonely and could have benefited from making friends her own age. She was our Sunset Shimmer. And YES, you could teach the same lesson with her because she is shown to be pushy and I could totally see her trying to change herself and preferences to fit in because of her past experiences. And Chloe could have even been part of it! But since we just met Chloe that season, it didn't really hit as well as it could have. Also, cutting a few of the utterly pointless fillers because, YES, there is such a thing would have helped so much. "The Family Treasure" was a trash episode. And so was "Heart of the Jaguar." For the latter, they could have worked that kind of development for Isa into another episode and made it go with the overall plot more. Esteban's storyline was a hot-ass mess. And I say that as someone who is NOT an "Estefan" at all. I don't hate him and understand his importance, he was just never a favourite. We got all of this great and necessary development with Elena processing her complicated feelings, but did not get the same with him. I just feel that getting it would have helped round out the story better and helped the whole "should Elena have forgiven him?" discourse. If we just explored more of his complicated feelings, it may have made things less divisive in the fandom. Or, at the very least, fallen into "understand but don't condone." Same goes for Ash too, by the way. I love the idea of a power-addicted narcissist and deadbeat mom in a kids' show. That's brave. But she went through a major downgrade in the last season. She was introduced as this big, foreboding threat and it just... never panned out. Hell, we don't even get enough time with her forming her own team and creating her master plan. And because of this, the whole "Shades of Awesome" plot feels disjointed. Speaking of Ash let's go back to Carla and Victor. After TMW, they were forgotten about for seventeen bleeding episodes. SEVENTEEN. Then, when they came back, it was only because Elena needed them. Which was a dick move, BTW. It was established way back in S1 that there was a potion to undo the stoning spell that Ash cast on him, but they just... didn't use it. I refuse to believe that they were merely a "foil to Esteban." I understand the difference between them asking forgiveness as opposed to his cowardice, but if Carla wasn't meant to be our Sunset Shimmer, why was she set up that way?! Why was it established that she was lonely and needed friends? And that she'd been taught that power and ambition were the way to get respect only for that to crumble? There was so much more that could have been done. And I'm not saying make Carla the new main character, but an episode like "The Lightning Warrior" could have happened earlier and subplots about her and her father working towards forgiveness and adjusting to their new life could have been added along with them doing background things. It's another way that could have just... rounded out the story. Also, she should have been in "Elena's Day Off" and part of girls' day. Fight me. There was this in-canon hype about characters like Ixlan and Chatana that went nowhere. Ixlan was touted as this powerful warrior that Elena would need in her final battle, but she barely did a thing in the finale and her existence boiled down to comic relief. Chatana was set up as a some kind of mythical existence and a threat but her whole character turned out to be "no discernible personality, but has a lot of exotic pets." Naomi's arc was so frustrating. She just up and left in the middle of a crisis situation based on an old childhood letter and panic about not achieving her dream... At 18. Like, GIRL!!! You're only 18! Calm down. You have your whole life to travel and become captain of a ship and all that. Get through the emergency first and then run off. I don't even mind that she wanted to go out and travel, I just think it could have waited. I also know there's controversy over her being chancellor. I never thought much of it since it was pretty much set up from day one, but I do agree that she should have been placed under someone like Esteban (post forgiveness) for a while to learn the ropes first. Because, again, she's like 18-19. Also, Norberg Peace Prize RUINED the fandom back in 2019. But that’s more my personal bitterness. Don’t get me wrong, this is my favourite show. But S3 wasn’t it.
I remember really liking this show when it came out. I was on the older side of the Sofia the first audience, especially at that point, so having a show with an older character was cool. Also the world is just really cool. There’s so many things I liked about it lol. I haven’t seen it in long enough to give any criticism, but yeah
As a Mexican, yes the thing we care most about is familia but many of the familia members suck. edit: its also used as a way to excuse all of the bad things a family member has done and from experience it is also an excuse for sending money to your family members because the USA is seen as the land of opportunity and that means that you must be rich and if you don't send money you are being selfish and using that money for you so you can buy Gucci and lululemon. They are so wrong. This doesn't happen to everyone but it does happen.
Answering to the "How important is familia" question At least personally i can say that family is kind of important, they're our connection and our history many of us have very diverse and mixed backgrounds so being close to your family often times means that you're close to your history. And due to stuff like economic situation, violence or whatever is happening, its important to at least have someone by your side and most of the time its your family. Of course this doesn't apply to all of us, and sometimes the "family above all" is kind of toxic because its used as a way for you to keep toxic people around you, but to my understanding even if many times even if there is toxicity or even just something that strains the relationship we still kind of stick around because its hard to imagine a world without people that you love with all your hard. This is of course an oversimplification but in essence yes family is important for many of us.
I was so scared when they started talking about vaping like it was going into a sponsor message so I’m very glad that you’re being sponsored by a product meant to help people stop. ❤ love your channel.
If you wanna get really technical, Sofia is also supposed to be Hispanic (according to early promo and articles about the show when it was first greenlit) and was marketed as the “first”. They got a lot of backlash because she didn’t have the darker skin tone or eyes her mother does (mom clearly has a type) and dropped it pretty quickly, then started alluding to Elena.
as an elena of avalor LOVER, i definitely feel like the last season was rushed. i think they had the whole plot planned out for a while, but they thought it wouldn’t be done so they rushed it through s3, but it ended up in having so many filler episodes. i feel like they could’ve started the arc even earlier in s1, since it only started at the end. maybe there wouldn’t have been so many “fillers” and they could’ve stretched the plot out more. idk if that’s something only i noticed though. i really really love how this show played out. that’s just my personal opinion, but it honestly deserves much more hype than it gets. thanks for this review, though! i love seeing other peoples opinions on my fav show
I don’t trust canned pasta, so neither 😐 I feel like Central and South Americas have been having a lot of representation in animation lately, which makes me wonder when we’re gonna get a movie about a far North American native character. Amber’s hair looked so terrible in the finale. James, Sofia , and Amber look like they were stung by bees💀
lol
The version of them aged up in the series looks so broken.
They fr looked like nightmare fuel.
Tbf, Amber having her hair so big makes sense for her. “Bigger is better”, right? 😂
Also their outfits are based on their original dresses instead of their newer ones.
Isabelle is voiced by Jenna Ortega. This wasn't mentioned everywhere, so I'll mention it here.
Nice😊
That was one of the reasons I watched EoA back then!
It's a homage to her role in "Stuck in the Middle" because she also played an inventor there.
wow i didnt know that! cool
Was my childhood just built on Jenna Ortega??!
😢😢 same here in the Philippines
Tbf some more recent Latin media keeps that but adds the fact that you are the one that pick your family. Like family of choice being everything. Such as fast and the furious.
Or the owl house
Thankfully we are starting to part from the toxic mindset that is "you must stay with your family even if they're a-holes to you because they're your family"
@@geministrial950that was basically the movie coco “Just because your family are psychopaths who are mean for no good reason they’re still family ❤”
Actually Sofia was supposed to be the first Latina Princess, she just doesn't have the coloring of her mother. It was in some of the online promotional stuff before the series
Edit: HISPANIC princess, excuse me. Her mother was supposed to be from a country based on Spain. Apparently the confusion came from one of the producers mistakenly referring to her as Latina
Ironic how someone makes a point about gaslighting, and essentially did the same or just did poor research.
@IcecteamOni-x4v me or him? 😅 to be fair Disney does the 'this is the first ___ character' thing at least five different times before they drop it, so it's a really easy mistake
omg if she was actually the first Latina princess she would be for the gueritas aka the more paler looking Latinos.
I didnt know this
@Gin_isnotmyname yes, Sofia and Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 were both examples of Disney basically measuring viewer response to Hispanic representation.
I'm half-spanish and this is absolutely what I was taught from my spanish side. Definitely a strong emphasis on family in hispanic cultures.
And by that I mean that they want me and my siblings to rely on each other more than extended family since my aunts & uncles from my dad's side are willing to do crazy things for inheritance 😅
Edit: I forgot to mention, my parents don't let bad behavior slide. And my parents are the type that no matter how much they love you, if you do something heinous they'll cut you out of their lives (which brings back the emphasis on family take)
Saaaaaaaaame
I still remember being so proud of myself for connecting Elena of Avalor to the amulet of Avalor before watching the show. This is a very fun world with fun characters and definitely fun songs

I think I'm unintentionally following the Serperior guy. I'm a fan!
I think you were disappointed because Elena of Avalor is classic latino drama all over the place.
And that's why I love it so much lol, as a latam person, I personally consider it a masterpiece.
Also yes, I LOVE Elenaomi, glad to see I was not crazy about them. There is something clearly going on 🧐
To be fair, Asha wasn't Latina or a princess...though i think she should have been but that's another rant...
She wasn't latina? Never saw the movie but I read those claims everywhere
@@luciaguillot4139 It'd be lovely if the movie was located in the Caribbean

never noticed how CLEARLY in love Elana and Naomi are when I was 10 but now.

Bisons, penguins, and lemurs are also just one animal, albeit they look different from their regular counterparts

42:45
They actually did update the main characters models to reflect their aging.
45:00 - fun fact: Asha is part Jewish (she calls her grandfather "Sabba", Hebrew for grandpa).

And I miss you and I’m ANGRY at myself for missing you, but more than anything I’m just so sad.”
I really felt that when I first watched it with what I was going through at the time.

I was a kid watching Sophia the First when this show came out.
There where a bunch of commercials hyping this show up and I had seen the connection between the Amulet of Avalor and Elena of Avalor so I checked it out.
Around this time Sophia's Amulet turns pink in Sophia the First, (Put a pin in that it will matter later)
So the first episode airs and it's "First Day of Rule" but what's interesting is that it begin with a prologue explaining how Elena had been trapped inside an amulet and defeated an evil witch, freeing her kingdom.
When are you going to talk about Miraculous World Paris: Tales of Shadybug and Claw Noir?
I wondering that it's a special and they should talk it.
Shuriki had the potential to be a great villain. Having gone back through the show recently I looked at every power she used.
Shuriki has many magical powers including:
Killing curse
Smoke manipulation
Flight
Summoning thunder and storm clouds
Creating cages made of magical energy (which she used to imprison Noblins)
Could grant magic powers (implied as she promised Victor and Clara to make them dark wizards)
Age spells (which she used to keep herself young)
Spell casting (which she used to drain a magical jewel to restore her youth and forge a new wand)
Potioncraft
I wish she didn't lose her new wand so soon and got to use it along with the sceptre of night so we could really see how powerful her sorcery was. I also really wish we got a full wizard duel between Shuriki and Alacazar. He came back for barely an episode and all he did was blast Zopilote before dying.
Am I the only one super excited about the new Sophia the first series that's coming in 2026?

WHAT WHY AM IS THIS THE FIRST TIME IM KNOWING THIS
WHAT THERE’S A WHAT?!
Elena actually killed Shuriki, that’s why she didn’t appear again. She dead. And to bring her back would mean they can defy death and that removed literally every stake.

55:45 Sofia’s blended family came from widowers, not divorcee parents.
The whole thing about "needing a white person as a lead cause mainly white people watch" or "needing a male/female protagonist for a male/female audience" is kinda bull crap to begin with.

The animals found in the spirit world are based on folk art statue’s called alebrijes
Or, at the very least, fallen into "understand but don't condone."
Same goes for Ash too, by the way.
Chatana was set up as a some kind of mythical existence and a threat but her whole character turned out to be "no discernible personality, but has a lot of exotic pets."
Naomi's arc was so frustrating.
There’s something funny that I watched the Sofia video earlier and after it was uploaded, this video came out. That’s some timing.
Deff spaggettios 😤👏
Hell yeah I'm so happy 😊(Also i think you should do LION GUARD) i watched it as a kid and applied for all ages and genders
omg you should do a video on carmen sandiago!!!
Yo, I knew Esteban sounded familiar, his voice actor plays Fishface in tmnt 2012
Answering to the "How important is familia" question
At least personally i can say that family is kind of important, they're our connection and our history many of us have very diverse and mixed backgrounds so being close to your family often times means that you're close to your history.
They got a lot of backlash because she didn’t have the darker skin tone or eyes her mother does (mom clearly has a type) and dropped it pretty quickly, then started alluding to Elena.
as an elena of avalor LOVER, i definitely feel like the last season was rushed. i think they had the whole plot planned out for a while, but they thought it wouldn’t be done so they rushed it through s3, but it ended up in having so many filler episodes. i feel like they could’ve started the arc even earlier in s1, since it only started at the end. maybe there wouldn’t have been so many “fillers” and they could’ve stretched the plot out more. idk if that’s something only i noticed though.
i really really love how this show played out. that’s just my personal opinion, but it honestly deserves much more hype than it gets. thanks for this review, though! i love seeing other peoples opinions on my fav show
btw carla best character!!! i loved not only her arc, but victors too.
@@europesskiess Carla is so underrated.
So this WASN'T something i misremembered existing. huh.
I don’t trust canned pasta, so neither 😐
I feel like Central and South Americas have been having a lot of representation in animation lately, which makes me wonder when we’re gonna get a movie about a far North American native character. I want a native Canadian Disney princess and I want her to have face tattoos!
There are too few of them, such project is unlikely to pay off, so Disney won't go for it.
Can you please do a deep dive on Shimmer and Shine? It's for kids but I think you'd love it
