After spending the last four months in Palmer (and flying in the exact same spots you did) I have to say this was my favorite episode of FlightChops so far! Thank you Steve for documenting this! Brought back memories of the world’s best kind of flying!
That looks like an incredible place to fly. It was great to see Wasilla from the air, where my wife grew up. Very cool, well constructed video. A lot different than the views I see from my office window in Papua New Guinea.
10:49 that TFR was broken many times. I was part of the search and recovery team on that glacier for the C-124 remains. We would radio the Air Force SERE team on the west side of Lake George and they would call up the aircraft. Very rewarding mission as I met a surviving family who never had anyone to burry, and they were able to close that door, or even better sometimes recover items like wedding bands, photos, and other items.
Glad you're enjoying it! I'm going to have to break the flow again to get some time sensitive things into the pipeline, but will get to the DHC-2 check out and missions later in the summer!
@@FlightChops Late summer checking in. Looking forward to seeing that Beaver - I mean... You know what I mean. This seaplane flying has been fascinating. Well done!
I discovered this channel when you aired your first DHC-2 episode years ago. Been looking forward to this series since the first teaser. Loving every minute of it. Classic FlightChops.
You get to fly the coolest stuff man. floats, fighters, acro, jets, bush planes, DCs, and so much more! It’s only a matter of time before Boeing calls you and offers you a check ride on an 777. Love this series! This is definitely on my bucket list!
Thanks! And yeah, sorry about pausing the series for July - a bunch of time sensitive stuff related to “not Oshkosh” came up that I was a part of... helping EAA and others try to keep the spirit alive as well as we could, despite the event being canceled.
@@FlightChops let me just say you guys are doing a great job at keeping that spirit alive. i live only an hour south of oshkosh so it was sad to see my favorite summertime event go, but you guys have really stepped up to make it feel special this year
My ultimate goal is float flying, I am really loving this series. I mean Covid19 sucks, but if it gave you the time to release this series, that's a huge silver lining for me. Thank you so much!
Absolutely lovely vid, thanks. Always dreamed of seaplanes since I saw a Sunderland in Southampton docks UK when I was a small child. Still on my must do list.👍🇬🇧
I fly that Skymaster now, must have shot this last year. Too bad he didn't take you to more exciting places, knik is fun but there are so many cooler places within the same flying time.
Where I live in Alaska, there's been so many accidents that the aerial tour service here, Taquan Air, had to shut down because of liabilities. The Misty Fjords by Revillagigedo Island isn't the best area to fly around due to the shear winds that come off of the mountains, which is what has caused most if not all the accidents here.
By the Divines, I am familiar with southeast Alaska flying, flown with one of the best out of Ketchikan who does misty fjords daily for yrs in a beaver on floats. Most of the recent crashes were pilot error! Many of the crashes are pilots new to Alaska flying! Not all, but most!😉
Loving this series! Beautiful country that you are sharing with us and super cool that you are able to share the experience with your family! Cheers! :-D
Fantastic video Steve, I think I am going to have to give float flying a go, though I need to head north of the border to Scotland to do it, as its very hard to do in England and Wales.
Steve, that's soooooo cool ! Awesome scenery too 👍👍 Did you ever ask how to determine how much water you need to land a plane on floats looking down from the air? It looks like it doesn't take much to stop it.
Awesome video, I’d love to go out to Alaska. I had a recent low flight in the Aventura II, you should see how I got destroyed in the comments... low flying is what seaplanes are for!
I like how you are always thinking of an out. Low flying always reduces your options. The necessity to do low flying other than sight seeing also should play into ones decisions. When I saw the opening footage low over that glacier I thought your options were zero or close to.
Great job Steve!! This was all shot a while back. What is Apex Aviation's time frame for launch? Would love to take a few weeks and go up to do a float rating with them. BTW...Anyone else seeing that beautiful C337 sitting in the background for sale! Beautiful bird back there.
@FlightChops We were planning a vacation trip to Norway this summer and I was pondering about getting my SeaPlane rating there... Covid-19 made us move the trip to '21 ... well, more time to look forward to it ;)
Yes, I am familiar with that in the context of a runway with known qualities - but the reason I asked was because out there on a spot Clint had not necessarily landed on before I was wondering how he gauged it.
Those are the normal Bose QuietComfort Headphones with an aviation microphone added. Don't know if it's still called the uflymike but that's what it used to be called.
I am Sooooo envious, that you get to fly All these airplanes in all these places. That is just Cool. Are you invited to these places or do you setup meetings with people?
Are you going to be at the July 17-19 fly-in at Stearman Field (1K1) at Benton, Kansas? I hope so. Dan Gryder is having several TH-camr's there. I learned to in Kansas. You might get to experience some wind!
Great video stunning scenery. Nothing like it here in Aus. Have to say though Josh (Aviation 101) had a much better looking instructor for his float training.
Nice vid. You should and a disclaimer: Don't try this at home. I flew (past tense) as a CAP SAR pilot for forty years, but flying over those mini icebergs made me nervous. More use to box canyons at 10k...
Loving the moose depth level gauge!
Eyyyyyyy Mikey how you doing?
Nothin' more amazing or bad-a$$ symmetrical than a Beav on floats! God what a plane!
The look on your daughters face when she heard greetings to her and your wife on the radio... Priceless
Yeah my wife just happened to be walking through the room right after that. I had to say hold on, watch this, and rewind it.
After spending the last four months in Palmer (and flying in the exact same spots you did) I have to say this was my favorite episode of FlightChops so far! Thank you Steve for documenting this! Brought back memories of the world’s best kind of flying!
Garrett, This is nothing! You should see prince William sound, Kodiak, Katmai, southeast Alaska, misty fjords, etc... 😉
Another great video. I've lived in Alaska 37 years and finally decided to start learning to fly. Can't wait to see the views from a new perspective.
It is a totally different kind of flying than I have ever done. Totally love it!
My first flight on floats was out of Kenai in a 180. Absolutely spectacular...going to get my SES rating next summer. Love this series.
That looks like an incredible place to fly. It was great to see Wasilla from the air, where my wife grew up. Very cool, well constructed video. A lot different than the views I see from my office window in Papua New Guinea.
Wow wow wow wow wow!
Very nice. Wish it were me flying but at least I can watch. Thanks.

My back yard. I'm fortunate to live within minutes of flying time to the Knik glacier area. I fly it often with my 172 Taildragger.
Nice video Steve! I’m enjoying this float flying content!
Awesome! More on the way - and there have been a couple since this one - check the “Alaska Float Training” play list on the main channel page
FlightChops sorry I’m not always on top of the latest videos...it’s been a chaotic year to say the least! I’ll have a gander at your other videos.
Outstanding! Alaska is definitely on my bucket list! Fly safe and fly often!
Nice video.
This series has been brilliant Steve.
Glad you're enjoying it! I'm going to have to break the flow again to get some time sensitive things into the pipeline, but will get to the DHC-2 check out and missions later in the summer!

cant wait for part 4, im loving this series

Excellent👍
That's a beautiful 180. The panel is perfection!
Flew a C152 through that same gorge at knik glacier! That was one of the coolest flights I’ve been on

Okay, you've convinced me. I am getting my seaplane rating as soon as I am done with CFI.
Wow!! That landscape is insane. So beautiful. Thanks a lot for sharing this!
As a sailor I love that they're talking about sailing their plane across the lake.
WOW, Awesome views!!!
We are "Hoping" to make a flight to Alaska before too long!!
Awesome stuff! Beautiful country/scenery. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing pictures. Thanks for this one, Steve!
aye, love it when I recognize locations on youtube. You're in my backyard this time
Jim’s Creek is awesome! Nice seeing it again. Thanks Steve!
Awesome video
Great respect For flying like this !!
Amazing video, doing this kind of flying is my dream!
Me too👍👍👍🇬🇧
I live in that glacier valley! Not gotten to see it from the air yet though, THANKS!
Best flying you’ll ever do!, love it! Great production flight chops :)
Sweet!! I live outside Seattle WA and we have a lot of floatplanes here too! Nicely flown!!
Richard, Yeah you got many floatplanes in the Seattle area yet nothing even close as far as terrain, weather, etc... just saying!😉😂
Crazy jealous. Enjoy that scenery!
That moose is up to his belly. So it’s at least 2 or 3 feet deep. Now that puts a whole new meaning to pilotage.
The 180/185 are my favorite airplanes.....Great for Alaska!
awesome glacier scenery and amazing footage! Sure looked like a squeaker with the trees!
Absolutely lovely vid, thanks. Always dreamed of seaplanes since I saw a Sunderland in Southampton docks UK when I was a small child. Still on my must do list.👍🇬🇧
Alaska has to be one of the most amazing places on earth had the privilege to have been to Anchorage twice
I fly that Skymaster now, must have shot this last year. Too bad he didn't take you to more exciting places, knik is fun but there are so many cooler places within the same flying time.
Man that's a great adventure! This is one of the best series on your channel, can't wait for the next one!
Living the aviation dream...i wish.
Damn son, you’re doing it right. That was awesome!
Awesome footage. That glacier looked incredible. Flying near those trees at 23:11 made me a bit anxious too. I'm sure you just get used to it...

Nice flying there, beautiful place.
I couldn’t believe I spotted a 185 on mud lake near upper wasilla. That has to be exciting. Best rating I ever did. Fun times. 😃
I always take first time passengers to Knik Glacier. It's a real crowd-pleaser. Wish I could go as low as FlightChops, but I'm not on floats. :)
I am really enjoying this series. I would very much like to fly a sea plane at some point in time.
Awesome
Well done... awesome video
Love it! Makes me want to fly floats again SO bad!
Just stunning to see, beautiful! 👌🏻
Glad to see you back.
I was never gone - sorry if TH-cam didn’t suggest things on your feed making it appear I wasn’t publishing
@@FlightChops Oh yeah I did see your aborted flight vid last week. I guess I was thinking back to the last float plane video.
Awesome Steve!
Loving this series! Beautiful country that you are sharing with us and super cool that you are able to share the experience with your family! Cheers! :-D
"Everything's bigger in Texas!"
Alaska: Hold my beer.
"Beer",,,,, nope "KEG"!
*hold my moose*
Excellent video!
Fantastic video Steve, I think I am going to have to give float flying a go, though I need to head north of the border to Scotland to do it, as its very hard to do in England and Wales.
Awesome! Please report back what it is like to train in that region!
Beautiful so jealous
Just another day here in Alaska! We are so spoiled!😉😂👍
so cool
Nice views you have there !
This was awesome.
Fun times. Now you need to get your hands on a Ellison-Mahon Gweduck
The trees were close a couple of times .....I almost blinked lol
Brave loon, not just the one in water
Steve, that's soooooo cool !
Awesome scenery too 👍👍

oooh the cessna 180. we had that aircraft and i heard there are not many of them left out there
Great job Steve!! This was all shot a while back. What is Apex Aviation's time frame for launch? Would love to take a few weeks and go up to do a float rating with them. BTW...Anyone else seeing that beautiful C337 sitting in the background for sale! Beautiful bird back there.
How to give 2 thumps up? Such great content.... awesome! Thanks a lot 🙏 be safe
Much appreciated!
@FlightChops We were planning a vacation trip to Norway this summer and I was pondering about getting my SeaPlane rating there... Covid-19 made us move the trip to '21 ... well, more time to look forward to it ;)
For your takeoff question Steve, if you get 70% of your rotation speed by 50% of your takeoff run you will get off without an obstacle.
Yes, I am familiar with that in the context of a runway with known qualities - but the reason I asked was because out there on a spot Clint had not necessarily landed on before I was wondering how he gauged it.
Cool, ask
Lots of questions. Welcome to
The land of the midnight sun. Be careful, I came for the summer when I was 19 and forgot to go home😁
Cool
Great video once again!
Are the bose headphones at 2:23 aviation headphones, or just standard headphones, I can’t seem to find them online?
Those are the normal Bose QuietComfort Headphones with an aviation microphone added. Don't know if it's still called the uflymike but that's what it used to be called.
NiklasStøterau brilliant! Love the speed of the reply
Haha "at about sixty we'll get it off the water".
I've never once looked at my speed whilst taking off on the water.
Just landed picnic for the first time today lol
Like that 180 would like to see a walk around from the pilot .
what did you pass 18.30 in above highway? was it a drone?
If I went there I'd never leave :)
Woah!
A LOT of eye candy😊😊😊😊😊
Well done Steve!!! Do we get to see any footage of Warwick flying?
Lol. Steve has enough storyline and footage to deal with already haha.

For those that are flying in from the East, Neodesha, KS 2K7 has 91 Ethanol Free gas. Then it's only 84 miles to 1K1 Stearman Field.
Great video stunning scenery. Nothing like it here in Aus. Have to say though Josh (Aviation 101) had a much better looking instructor for his float training.
Errr... 13:37 how close was that dead tree??
Yeah... pretty close - that’s why I commented on it - Clint like most back country pilots is really good at cutting margins close.
Was that a drone low in the grass area around the 18:38 time?
Nice vid. You should and a disclaimer: Don't try this at home. I flew (past tense) as a CAP SAR pilot for forty years, but flying over those mini icebergs made me nervous. More use to box canyons at 10k...
Great shots Clint! How can I get in on the action??
That's right no brakes! How do you do a run up?
Gotta watch part 1 :)
10:33 song?
how do I become a pilot I'm 14
Look into joining local Civil Air Patrol, USAF Auxillary
11:50 bet you don't hear that SOG anywhere else...
First! Thank you Steve!
