She was my favorite person in the Brain Trauma series. She's so enlightened and inspirational and I hope she is able to start competing. Much luck in life to you Eltje!
You.are a very strong woman. Keep it up. You have done well. !!!!!! Anybody in your situation may have given up but you love life and strife to live it to the most of your ability.😀💪🏻
This woman is incredibly strong-willed. I find her attitude and her lack of self-pity despite her incredibly challenging situation inspiring to say the least.
She was the one I wanted to see an update on so badly. I seem to remember that they were very concerned about her house in the last episode due to many stairs and hanging bikes, etc. it appears she may have moved to make things more accessible for her? She has come such a long way. Hope to see her compete one day in the Paralympics. Thanks so much!
What an inspirational lady. She has really defied her odds. Her British friend John seems so lovely. Wishing her all the best with everything and hope she gets to the Paralympics.
As an athlete I couldn't imagine having my physical abilities taken away from me so suddenly. It's one of he biggest parts of who I am, my identity is wrapped up in my physical strength and ability. The depression must be so deep and dark for her. Honestly I don't know if I could be strong enough to get through something like this. She is an amazing woman, just to keep trying and living life is more than most could do.
Ageing, injury and something more "simple" like chronic fatigue syndrome can take all that away pretty quickly. You shouldn't place much of your identity in your physical abilities because they can easily be lost.
I agree with the other person if your whole identity is wrapped up in your physically being life ends with your body her mind is and always has been stronger tour de France riders aren't just physical I'd say they are closer to 80% mental
There are so many competitive adaptive sports available today that a person can usually find a way to remain an athlete, even a pro, after a TBI or SCI. These are now usually introduced early in rehabilitation, so most people can transition from able-bodied to disabled much quicker and more thoroughly than people did when I was disabled decades ago. But yeah, suddenly being unable to compete at the most elite levels probably is a huge blow. But people overcome it and lead happy lives if they keep that spark alive.
Eltje is amazing and inspirational, not because of her injury but because of her overwhelming drive to improve. She must have been amazing to have as a physio. It's good to see she's doing so well.
She was! I had the enormous privilege to work under her as a caregiver...she would set the physio program & I would follow thru with the exercises she had set for the resident...she allowed me to question why this exercise etc..she always took the time to explain why & to break it down into layman's terms for me! Know she is very much missed!
What a truly inspirational woman! May the poor soul who hit her see this series and see that their cowardness to leave the scene did not kill this beautiful lady's spirit.
Since getting my TBI seven years ago, I haven't stopped recovering. I always have goals but often I get depressed and feel defeated by my difficulties. Eltje is such a positive light. I can relate to these things she's going through, but she's such an amazing encouragement. I hope she never stops believing in her recovery. Never believe -this is all I will ever be. Just because doctors say after six months or three years this is as good as can ever expect to be. RUBBISH. Utter rubbish to say. Hope and determination can overcome a lot of things, including attitude, which is huge when you have brain injury. If I believed those things, I would have given up long ago, but it can be detrimental to morale hear.
Eltjeeee!! I'm so happy to see her, I so wished for an update, she showed me how much one can accomplish when they don't give up, and how much better even awful situations can get. She is truly my hero...
Just found these documentaries. All of these patients are truly amazing and inspirational, with Eltje’s fortitude truly an example in life. Major kudos to ALL of the staff members in the rehab and community as well as families and friends!
This has help me much. Thank you 😊 Miss Eltja. I was in a wreak on my bike with a car last May. I have some concussion issues. Nothing like miss Eltja. But I was think about buying handi cap wheels for my bike. And after watching this I know it is the right thing to buy. What a stronger soul she has. Onward and upward.
Her bruises must have been deep and intense to still show after so many months. Her story is absolutely amazing. She's definitely come so much further than anyone could have imagined
I absolutely love the way she thinks. I had a really you have a hard time when people don’t think this way. When people want everything done for them and not contribute anything.
The hit and run showed the worse in people and Eltje's determination shows the best. I hope Eltje surprises herself by surpassing some of the goals she set for herself.
Such a strong woman who is not intimidated by her fate! Wow! Eltje, if you are reading this: Das Leben ist so unfair! Du bist eine wahre Kämpferin, bleib stark und verliere die Hoffnung nicht! Grüße aus deiner alten Heimat!
Eltje is amazing ! Her determination and fortitude are huge contributions to her recovery ! She’s come so far and she will continue to get better each day just because she is so dogged and determined to get better . All my best to her , she deserves it ❤️
eltje is so inspiring! i love her determination to improve every day and get as much normality back into her life! i wish her all the best with her journey!! she's doing SO well!! xx lana, 22, gold coast

I do not feel sorry for you.. because I know you are a survivor..life had planned something worst of the worst for you.. but with your tenacity of living.. you have just disarmed the life's power to beat you down.. salute to your spirit ma'am... truly inspirational.. & great work by the team of #Attitude
Wow your speech has really improved since the last update. I’m so happy for you in the progress that you are making. I love that cool walking bike. i might look into getting one to use with my service dog when I don’t want to take my wheelchair. Keep up the awesome work! Everyday is your day to shine! I encourage you to look into getting a mobility service dog to help you with your balance and independence. I use one myself. I’m on my 4th dog. They have changed my world so much for the better and in ways that I never could have imagined. God’s Peace!
Hero's don't always wear capes sometimes it's just a person showing us that no matter what happiness is for everyone sometime it's someone who shows us it's possible to make it thank you for fighting and thank you for sharing the world is alittle better for it
Such an amazing woman whose sheer grit and determination has enabled her to overcome adversity with such amazing success. An example to able bodied people & TBI individuals 🙌
I've often wondered of her progress and pleased to come across this update. l hope every personal goal she sets against herself she achieves. She's a remarkable lady. Look forward to the next update.

I wish Eltje gets to be a bit more self compassionate in the future! She works so hard and is such a fighter and I'd love to see her celebrate her own victorys a bit more and be a little less hard on herself. She has all reason to be really proud of herself ❤️
Eltje is back on the saddle and winning medals left and right at the Paralympics!! I'm so happy for her :)) twitter.com/NZParalympics/status/1173302983318298624?s=19
I love the trike. I have a recumbent myself from HP Velotechnik that I purchased prior to surgery. Like you I do like to cycle and I anticipated many safety liabilities I would face with my ABI. My sincere best wishes. 🚵♀️ ✝️ 🙏🏻
January 17, 2024 ADELAIDE, Australia - Shelley Gautier of Niagara Falls, Ont. and Nathan Clement of West Vancouver each collected their second medal Wednesday as Canada concluded a very successful season opening Para cycling World Cup road event. The Canadians finished the three-day competition with nine medals (one gold, four silver and four bronze). In the women’s T1 (tricycle) road race, Eltje Malzbender of New Zealand won the gold medal in 59 minutes and 42 seconds followed by Gautier, also the silver medallist in the time trial, 2:41 back of the winner. Fotima Saipova of Uzbekistan was third.
Ohh my i broke when she said life has lost its shine I feel horid for thinking that way haveing all my blessings it's amazing how I can wake up and just immediately shoot my ego in the head with one of these shows.... These shows make me face my own problems it's a good thing
They need to see things like that here in America. We have the chair we just really need to work on it. New Zealand has the right idea. And of course fucking insurance doesn’t help to cover these good things.
This is an odd thought, and I hope nobody minds me sharing it... Perhaps we get the lessons which we need for our maximum growth in life. She was a person who was so hard on herself, so strict and pushing herself to the maximum. She had an experience which make her have to grow in completely different areas - letting go, forgiving herself, compassion, serenity, acceptance. Maybe on some level her higher self arranged to learn those lessons.
Eltje Malzbender is now a member of the Para Cycling Paralympic Potential squad aiming for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
That's freaking AWESOME!!!🚵🚵🚵🚵. Keep it up, I know you can do it.
That’s awesome! Don’t let COVID stop you! Keep fit and keep cycling. You will get your chance and day to shine.
