I think they will keep usb-c version at the bottom as is. But added the macSafe option at the front because it’s thin, and easily detectable when needed. I wish they have 3 sizes for the mouse. I have large hands. 😅
I recently bought the gen 1 apple mouse and have been using it daily, I absolutely love it. I am a big fan of the gesture controls and the design. The ergonomics of the mouse have not been an issue for me at all. I am a big fan of the mouse but I do wish that there were more gestures and customization for more gestures. I know that it exists in better touch tool but I wish apple handled that. The gen 1 Magic Mouse uses AA batteries instead of charging via a cable but I have heard that the gen 2 and type c Magic Mouse charge lasts for months so that doesn't seem like a huge issue honestly. But I would love to see a redesign of the Magic Mouse with a more ergonomic shape that still has the great gestures of the Magic Mouse
My version uses AA batteries aligned in the same direction, Apple-style. I think Touch ID could be placed on the side, unless it can be integrated on top without compromising the design. The charging port should stay on the bottom to maintain the sleek, seamless look-it worked well there and avoided disrupting the design. Placing the port on the front for use while charging essentially turns it into a wired mouse again, encouraging users to leave it plugged in, defeating the purpose of being wireless. The physical click should be replaced with haptic feedback, like the Trackpad.
Once you go wireless you definitely notice the mouse being plugged in. I have a wireless mouse with charging port at the front. The battery last months and recharges in an hour or so. No effort to plug it in and disconnect every once in a while.
Using the Magic Mouse while charging the device is exactly what Apple wants not to happen… you would need like minutes to charge it yet people would keep it wired forever.
I’ve always found the current design very comfortable to use and have been using it since the days of the AA batteries..I have never had an issue with the position of the charging port either as it lasts so long between charges and when it gets low I just charge it overnight or whilst I am not using it.
Apple: We have listened to your calls and concerns and we have come to a conclusion that... We will continue to ignore you and do what we want because we're Apple... and we know better than you.
I've got big hands, with large fingers. When I hold the mouse, especially using Mail and looking through my new mail, my large finger pads trigger side-swipe movements, just through overlapping the edge of the mouse. It causes those choices to Delete, etc, to keep popping into existence, which needs me to carefully unswore them to stop my mail from somehow evaporating. Very irritating. I'd like a non-sensitive (invisible?) bezel, that isn't triggered just by holding the thing.
But who cares…actual users know that you only need to charge the Magic Mouse 2 x twice a year at max - & even urgently in 2 mins provides 9 hours of use, together with an alert in advance. If anybody is complaining about flipping the mouse just twice a year, they’re just damn lazy 😂 It does have the worst ergonomics of any mouse though - that’s no doubt.
I wanna see a Magic Mouse that has Apple Watch like tendon tracking, but in the palm so you can control it without moving the house just by hand pulses. Would be so sci fi. Huge learning curve tho
The EU mandate is only dictates the type of charge port that a device with a charge port has, devices that charge wirelessly and without a charge port are allowed. Apple could still release and inductive charging only mouse provided that the device has no charge port whatsoever
I like the Magic Mouse for the gestures and I like the slim design because it makes it more precise for design work, photo editing, video editing in my opinion. The charging port on the bottom doesn't bother me at all as I don't use it much and only have to charge it every couple of months which is no big deal, I'll be upset if they give it a big redesign.
Ergonomics and desktop space are the two biggest issues for me. Battery charging is third. I tried and returned the Magic Mouse because it was too uncomfortable for long periods of use at a time. Also, the ability to charge while using the mouse is a big plus. I don't know how many times I forgot to charge my mouse, only for it to die on me in the middle of a project due "yesterday" . The mouse is my primary device when working vs the keyboard, (90/10) so I use the Logitech MX ERGO PLUS . It 's ergonomic AND saves on desktop space by not having to move the mouse thanks to the trackball.
I picked up a Logitech MX Master for audio and video editing because all the tech YTers said it was amazing and I returned it a week later. I ADORE the Magic Mouse. The only thing it needs is the port moved to the side. Oh and a horizontal scroll function would be nice, unless it can already do that and I haven't figured it out.
It would be interesting if they made it even flatter and basically turned it into a small trackpad that can be used as a mouse. I think full time trackpad users would still want the much larger pad, so Apple wouldn't really have to worry about cannibalizing sales.
I use the Logitech gx950 mouse. I pick it up to move it, but set the dpi so I can go anywhere on the screen in a 2” area on the mouse pad. Next Magic Mouse: scroll wheel, side button for Mission Control, adjustable dpi, and rounder sides so my fingers are not on a hard edge and rounder so I can rest my hand on it and fingers not touch the surface.
The literal ONLY actual issue with this mouse has nothing to do with the charge port location. The battery literally lasts months without a charge and charges in maybe an hour. The real issue is easily fixed by a simple software update that Apple simply will not do despite constant complaints all over the internet about the same thing. The Magic Mouse specifically has this issue where if you do not use the TERMINAL to set mouse tracking speed to a minimum of 3 times the maximum speed available in system settings, the tracking speed is so ridiculously slow that you have to pick up the mouse and move it to the far side of the mouse pad at least 2 times just to get the pointer across a 13 inch MacBook screen. On iMac it is far worse and it's even worse than that on Pro Display XDR or studio display. This can *LITERALLY* be fixed with a single software update and no hardware changes whatsoever.
Don't justify bad design decisions. It still makes more sense to have the port in the front. Use it wireless or wired, use while charging. Also, when the battery degrades it's not gonna last "months" and then the location of the port will matter even more.
I agree, I honestly don’t really care about the charge port location. I charge it so infrequently-maybe once every few weeks, every week tops-that it’s just a non issue, personally. My main problem is with the ergonomics, the mouse is for tiny baby hands and it’s impossible to grip comfortably; I always get finger pain after using it for more than 30 minutes or so. The tracking speed is wonky too, it feels like no matter how I set it it’s either too fast or too slow. Bleh.
I used to use it, with zero ergonomic issues, until I went all trackpad all the time. I feel like the MacOS interface is really optimized for trackpad now, and I would have a hard time going back to a mouse of any kind.
The MX Master mice are a big no for me for only having 125 Hz of polling rate, this makes them not ideal for productivity. I use Logitech’s G304, it’s pretty comfortable and smooth to use, it has a maximum of 1000 Hz of polling rate, doesn’t feel choppy when using.
I have a computer mouse in the shape of a car and it's amazing to use. Your palm rests perfectly on what would be the roof and your fingers curls perfectly downwards on the buttons, where the hood would be.
This is such a great way to describe this! I have the super light 2 and your point stands my palm rest on the hump my fingers go towards the buttons and everything just fits. Not sure how or where apple could innovate.
They should put the charging port on the front, as it is on the Dacia Spring the cheapest EV in Europa and make an entire event just for this new mouse called Spring Loaded 2.0 or something
I bought a housing for my Magic Mouse that is easier to hold/use and does wireless charging on Amazon for a reasonable price. Apple can do whatever they want but I'm fine with mine .
I mean, technically speaking it’s $99, so we’re halfway there already. I think TouchID would be great though, especially for people using iMacs or desktops that don’t have the TouchID keyboard. Be nice to use a mechanical keyboard without losing biometrica
WHY! What do you achieve by allowing it to plug in and use it? It's a wireless mouse. Having it plugged in just wears out the cable and the port. A 2 minute charge will get you through the day so you simply don't ever need to leave it plugged in.
I can see an inductive charging mate being for the "Pros". Also easily charge maybe $250 for it and that's a yikes😬. USB C is a blessing, first time using an iPhone with it. bag it lighter.
Just charge with induction or magnet connectors on some kind of base, the rumors to remove the cable connection from iPhones from years why not start from the mouse.
You can swipe back and forth with the trackpad too lol. The trackpad is waaay more gesture based than the Magic Mouse. The trackpad is full of multi-finger gestures.
Making it portless would not go against the EUs mandate. The Apple Watch complies and that is portless. Any device with a port must have a USB-C but not every device needs a port
Apple needs to ditch the battery and go super capacitor this time. EU would probably never allow it to be legal claiming it would be too dangerous. 😂 Oh, EU, you so craaaaazie!
Why couldn't they make it wireless charging and make the ergonomic mouse Are we going to get a mechanical keyboard aswell As how many people are going to sue them for rsi for the magic mouse and for the keyboard

The charging port placement should be the least of our concerns…
800 researchers and 2000 engineers have worked without breaks for 4 years to finally come up with a new name for the mouse; "Mouse Magic"
A single charge last three months. At one point you weren’t supposed to use it while you charge it but that was 15 years ago.

The MAGIC MOUSE is great. You’re right. I use it every single day for hours on end as well for work. Only criticism is the charge port, for sure.

This comment should be higher up. The EU is not forcing a USBC port on it. IF there is a port, it needs to be USBC.
