    Hi, just wanted to say thank you for this particular video. I've been living in Ireland for the past 13 years and was unfortunately taken off the roads due to brain surgery. But one of the things I enjoyed most was driving up to Calgary from Spokane to see friends and this was effectively the last leg of the journey and I really appreciate being able to see this view once again. It's been so long. Many thanks.

      ahh thanks for watching my videos! Alberta is great for driving through just simply due to the variety of landscapes.

      @@TransCanadaPhil It certainly is! It's probably my favourite place in the whole world.
      Funny you should mention feeling claustrophobic on European roads at 7:23. Ive had the same impression many times. Especially in West Cork and Kerry.

    Very nice ride, always good to see the Trans Canada Highway- and to see the different highways of Canada! Really enjoy your videos and really enjoy seeing Canada's highways!

    Quite a transition in scenery from the mountains in the beginning, to the rolling plains in the middle, and finally the city infrastructure! Calgary is a city I would really like to visit.

    This is my favorite part of the trans canada anytime I'm driving home from somewhere in BC. The mountains just abruptly end and everyone starts going like 30 km/h faster. If it's an all day trip the sun starts to set and you just blast across the prairies.

    • @TransCanadaPhil
      @TransCanadaPhil  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, that front range of the Rockies is like a wall almost. You can pinpoint exactly where the Rockies start and stop 45 minutes west of Calgary.

    7:15 I definitely feel at home in open land too.
    I might live in a big city (the Dallas-Fort Worth area) and I appreciate what the big city has to offer... but I always love me a nice trip across open grasslands. It makes me sad to see the fairly-open grasslands on the west side of Fort Worth get paved over with suburbia.

  • @AsphaltPlanet1

    nice video. i really wish that Hwy 1 wasn't signed along 16th Avenue in Calgary. It just doesn't seem right for the TCH to follow an urban road as it does.

    • @TransCanadaPhil
      @TransCanadaPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asphalt Planet agreed, it should swing to the south before coming into the city and run along Glenmore Trail instead!

    • @BrandonClaridge
      @BrandonClaridge 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess TCH-1 could follow Stoney Trail along the north side of Calgary. The due north direction of Stoney Trail on the northeast side of Calgary means that this is not as direct as a hypothetical route following (and extending) Glenmore Trail, but there is a complete freeway-standard route already existing there. They could even make Stoney Trail NE and NW part of the Trans-Canada Highway network (keeping TCH-1's current routing through Calgary), in the same manner that the southern Winnipeg Perimeter is signed as TCH-100.
      The same could be said for TCH-16 following Anthony Henday Drive around the north side of Edmonton, and this actually makes more sense as this does not deviate as much from the current TCH-16 route, compared to Stoney Trail's route versus the current TCH-1 route through Calgary. Or once again, just add northern Anthony Henday Drive to the TCH network.
      Both Stoney Trail and Anthony Henday Drive already have "derivative" highway numbers relative to the main TCH highways (AB-201 and AB-216 respectively), so the segments that most easily form a bypass of Calgary and Edmonton should get TCH shields (TCH-201 and TCH-216) in my opinion.

      Yes the Banff to Radium Hot Springs is a route I still have to get. For Jasper to Mount Robson, I pretty much have it going the other way (north to south), but not yet south to north.
