Now it's May 24 and a very wet and warm uk and although I still have slugs and snails there are definitely less of them. I'm going to put another treatment on in June as I can't seem to buy any at the moment. But in meantime I have just used the fruit and veg nematodes to reduce the gnats eating my stuff. Fingers crossed again. UK gardens are a challenge and I'm a novice.
Thanks a lot, after rejuvenating my lawn to a nice lush green I walked out to admire my work last night and saw slugs feasting on my hard work. Will do this tomorrow
Definitely going to get that on my garden 👍🏻 then I might try to bred them apparently it's easy to do you just need to collect 20 slugs put together with 1 or 2 infected infected slugs in a sealed tub with a bit of water in the bottom and a bit of feed for them thay will all become infected with the nematodes which multiple and the Go into the water give it a bit of mix now and then then fill up with water and put on garden
A timely VLOG. Thanks. I struggle with slugs every year (and I think there are restrictions brought in to limited/eliminate the sale of slug pellets at the turn of this year), but like you, I agree that using Nematodes helps avoid other issues other treatments have associated with them. I had been collecting some yoghurt pots (to make slug traps using beer) but now I think of it - it's a waste of good beer, so I shall be ordering nematodes - in my case to keep the slugs away from my Dahlias which I hope shall begin sprouting this month. More on the veg plot please (and mind the balance between speech and music volume) - but great video - as always !
Agree!! Beer is expensive too!!! Unless you drink it all the time and use a cup full a night but that’s extra hassle. Nematodes is easy. And last a long time in the ground too!! Will do! Been spending a lot of time there over the last few weeks need the builders merchants to reopen to get more ornament stone to go around the paths. Will try and keep the sound to one level 😊👍🏻 thanks for the feedback it’s the only way I can improve the videos😊
I know it's been a few years but others may still find this useful. Pop into your local supermarket and pick up a 4 pack of the cheapest bitter on the shelf. Theyr only 2% alcohol a can so work out very cost effective. I only pay roughly £1 for 4 cans
Love the video 🔥🔥🔥 We are considering doing a series of nematode videos "Hella flows for Nematodes", this video gives me encouragement that people might actually be interested in it 😂😂
How did you get on with these ? just bought some being delivered tomorrow , lasy year was a nightmare controlling them without chemicals , hope these work well
To be honest it’s the best thing we have ever used for slugs. Would 100% recommend it. The only thing you need to do it reapply it when the instructions at. Once it wears off all the slugs appear back overnight almost!
Nematodes exist in all soil, many years ago my buddies son had a job working for the government, his job was to go all over the place taking samples and doing a nematode count. Ducks and geese are good for keeping down slugs and snails and they dont scratch, like a chicken.
Hi. Ange here from @not just about ducks. Love the video thank you just what I needed to know. By the way. I’m just by Newport in Cwmbran fellow Welsh woman here I have subscribed please pop by mine. And say hi 👋 thanks again. I just bought some nematodes for isopods but they work on other ground and tree pests the wood lice are decimating my strawberries and greenflies are on my fruit trees and currant bushes apparently it stops carrots flies and allium moths as well also leather jackets yeee happy days. Take care and God bless. Ange and the feathered ones 🐣😊🙏
Obviously growing in popularity with environmentally conscious gardeners, as the online stores are all sold out! Have you noticed a return of hedgehogs and toads?
Unfortunately, nematodes are useless against slugs (Arion), even if this is occasionally claimed. Read here why this is so. The explanation why nematodes work well against some snails and not at all against others is quite simple: Since the nematodes can only survive in moist soil, they only infest snails that share the same habitat. These are the field snails (Deroceras), rather small to medium-sized snails (up to about 60 mm in length), which have a preference for seedlings and tender seedlings. They live close to their forage plants in the ground. No effect against (Spanish) slugs Slugs (Arion) are now very common in many gardens and cause considerable feeding damage. Unfortunately, treatment with nematodes is ineffective. During the day, slugs live away from their feeding grounds in tall grass or hidden under bushes and perennials. It is not possible to bring them into contact with the nematodes because they do not live in the soil like field slugs.
Here in the Pacific Northwest of the US our soil is saturated for months this time a year as well. I am looking to this video hoping this method would also help with slug and snail eggs. I discovered yesterday that there are loads of them in my vegetable garden. Where I pulled a carrot last week was full of slug eggs. I pulled a few others and there were eggs laid down the sides of many of them. Hoping this method will address an issue before it explodes.
Not sure it is correct to say nematodes are useless against ALL slugs. According to the info I have read (in the UK) we have a number of slugs other than Arion and nematodes should work on them, along with the common snails we have. I think you need to clarify your location to reflect the types you have.
Ive just done this tonight. Fingers crossed. The slugs devoir my plants every year and they are getting worse. Hopefully this will keep them in check.
It will 😊
What was the outcome dude. Thumbs up? 👍🏻

It should do the job! 😊👍🏻
We've now dropped our long awaited rap explaining nematodes and nematology 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Would be great if you can do that! Save a fortune!

really interesting, we had loads of slugs in onur garden.
Nematodes work great!! 😊👍🏻
When should I start using the nematode liquid solution as I have prepared beds ready for spring????
Not sure, you’ll need to read the instructions on best time to use.
I haven’t got a pack to hand
Autumn and spring

Can it be used whilst plants are growing.?
Yes 😊👍🏻

I want to buy this, but I'm having a hard time locating any for sale in the U.S. Do you know where I could order from?
We bought ours through Amazon U.K. may be on Amazon in the states?
Is there a way to do a field w commercial sprayers?
I’m not sure. More than likely I would have thought. You’ll need to talk to a agricultural supplier
A saucer of ale works great for slugs and snails, they cant resist a fast pint and get paralytic and drown
Haha!! I’ve heard of that too!! Lots of eco friendly tricks out there!!

Yes that’s true! A friend of mine uses ducks! But they do steal some kale while on patrol!!!
Trouble is though slugs and snails come at night and hide well away during the day when the ducks are feeding
Did it work??

Thank you, will do 😊
@@gwenyngruffydd cool 😎 thanks
Can you double/triple the recommended strength of the Nemaslug and overdose the little critters "slugs"......
Can’t see why not!
Did you do a update video to company this?
No unfortunately this is the only video I’ve done.
It worked great though 😊👍🏻
ok thanks will order some and give a go tried everything else this year still losing plants on my allotment.
Did it work
Yes amazingly! But needs to be repeated every 6 weeks or they come back
Where is the second video you said?
Hi, I think I have only done 1 nematode video?
@@gwenyngruffydd thankful very much for your reply :-) it will be Amazon to see the result of it .
Did it work Brother?
Yes! But needs to be reapplied when it says. Otherwise the slugs come back.
@@gwenyngruffydd thank you 👍🏻
I've learnt something today 🍷🍺👍
Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
How did the nematodes work out?
They worked out great! But you need to reapply it every 6 weeks.
@@gwenyngruffydd how many times have you reapplied it before they don't come back?
Normally 2-3 times in a season will cover it. We don’t use it in the winter.
Obviously growing in popularity with environmentally conscious gardeners, as the online stores are all sold out! Have you noticed a return of hedgehogs and toads?
We have loads of frogs and toads here.
Going behind the wife with a hose, lucky her.
😃
what happen then ?
Worked amazingly for 6 weeks then the slugs came back! So we have applied it again.
Very happy with the results.

Great point thanks for sharing. Out of interest where are you based?
In wales it’s very wet….everywhere. It could still work?
