The farming technology of today just blows my mind. It makes me wish I was still a farmer instead of just owning and taking care of our farm. We lease out our farm to a neighbor that really does a good job with the crop and he helps us out with small jobs that require big equipment. I’d love to operate a big tractor like the one you were planting with in this video.
We finally got about a half inch of rain yesterday!! Calling for 11 inches of snow from Monday night til Wednesday.. I am grateful for ANY moisture we get right now!!!
Awesome sunset drone shots! Those side lights on the cab are really cool, you can see on either side of the tractor in low light, rather than having blind spots on either side of you if you happen to be out in the field in low or no sunlight.
Congratulations, Welker family! I continue to be amazed by your ability to farm massive acres under terrible conditions with demanding equipment issues and all while meeting all sorts of outside demands on your time. You guys accomplish all that AND THEN somehow manage to make interesting, appealing content which you then edit and blend while reinforcing your brand. Hollywood moguls must gnash their teeth and weep into their quiche and endives (and all this while you work a landmass roughly equivalent to all of Louisville, Kentucky).

Great video! Thank y'all for putting this video together on the 620 wheeled Steiger, not very many videos on the net, on the wheeled versions, and I appreciate you doing some. That is a great looking tractor! Thank you again! Stu
Few items that were not in the video. - Quadtracs ran about 1.5% slip with the work we were doing on our farm. - Steiger duel tires ran about 2-5% slip with most flat pulling running at 3%. -Tracks are superior in compaction and tractor width compared to dualed tires. - Tracks require more maintenance and are more expensive than tires. - Tires are superior for high speed roading for lengthy trips as tracks generate lots of heat and can be destroyed if not given proper cool down intervals. - Quadtracs are heavy by nature and typically do not need added weights unlike tires which do. There are more items but this is what we know and have found from experience.
It's neat when you look back across the history of farm tractors it goes from wheeled steam traction engines, to metal tracked tractors from which the WW1 tank spawned, back to rubber wheeled, then back to rubber track, and now back to rubber wheeled for a lot of people with these big super singles they can make now. Wheeled while it doesn't have the flotation or traction of tracked sure does have a lot more HP doing useful work instead of generating friction so more efficient and more power hitting the ground.
Down here in the Mississippi delta where we precision land level for irrigation, we tried the Quadtracs on scrapers and they didn’t do too well. Brand new 580 Quadtracs we’re destroying tracks in as little as 600 hours. Tires are the way to go, especially on scrapers.
I know it is not the big bud but the Red tig looks pretty sweet. Keep up the good work and content. Thank you for sharing with us, so much to be grateful for. All the best.
Tracts have their place - guess I like tires the best. Summer sure went fast - not looking forward to all the snow and cold this season. If I hit the lottery I'd buy a place like in TN.
