Amazing to think this legend missed out on a world title by just 2 points! Yet you rarely here about him in the 'history books' mentioned in modern f1.
Well I guess you never watched 1999 season... Mika retired 5 races and Ervine retired 1. Ervine won against Hakkinen in 2 races. 1 in Austria, when Coulthard pushed Hakkinen to last place and Hakkinen came 3rd that race 2nd was in Malaysia when Schumacher played teammate and let Ervine be in 1st place and slowed down Mika during the race. 2 points from a championship is the overstatement of the century.
@antoniohmmm5518 It doesn't matter how it happened. Irvine being 2 points away from a title isn't an overstatement, it's a fact. Hakkinen might have been the far superior driver in 1999 but the record books will always show that Irvine was just 2 points behind
Eddie was so spot on about jaguar and ferrari.he called ferrari not being able to win for 20years lets hope this curse is meaningless.this year is our year eddie.pls no jinx
I remember the year when he almost won the title. It all went down to the last race of the year and then Ferrari screwed him so he wouldn't win ahead of Michael.
Always nice to see an interview with Eddie Irvine haha. Although he did let that championship slip imo. A thing Schumacher would have clinched it if he didn't break his leg.
What Eddie meant was, he signed for Ferrari as a number 2 driver. Well paid but not top tier. He was happy. But when he sampled winning he could not go back to how it was. Lets face it all F1 drivers are good, bit the exceptional talents make them look bad.
For me Eddie was a great driver with a one off personality, (different sport but Joe Marler) sold himself to Ferrari knowing he was going to be a No.2. Also a very nice guy if you don’t piss him off!
Irvine was talking bollocks when he said about ferrari getting rid of him because he was getting too close to schumacher, he was never anywhere near his level.
@@nicholasbradley4175 he literally outqualified irvine by a whole second on his first race back and then handed him the win. irvine was always miles off, i cant think of a single time he beat schuey on merit.
This shows why Clarkson flopped as a general talk show host. It was a messy all over the place interview. Would have loved a few questions on that amazing 1999 season and especially about the missing wheel - a lost opportunity.
It's 'too' big business now, everything will have someone managing it, risks are a lot less in terms of life and death, so other personalities types are getting involved. Still only one Hunt & Lauda for me, different personalities but amazing competition...
Raikkonen and Irvine both cut from the same cloth. Legends.
Not a coincidence they are 2 of my favourites.
Eddie is the perfect mix between kimi and james hunt
Gotta love Eddie, not many in the sport will tell you how it is like him
True 👍
Eddie done life his way , great attitude on life ❤
Gawd I miss Eddie....he's the first driver I started supporting in 98.
I met Eddie a couple of times back in the 90s. Fun guy. I am still not over that missing wheel…

If you’ve ever met him you know why he is your all time hero!! The way he thinks and acts is still the same!!
Absolutely ❤️
Charming, talented good looking Barsteward...I love the guy...
You think everything is different in 2023 and then you realise people said exactly the same thing about drivers in 99.
If anything, today's F1 drivers are even more health-orientated.

The more I learn about Eddie, the more I respect him and his outlook on racing.
Whats funny is jaguar became red bull so in a way he was right about it being the next big thing
I remember Schumacher and Irvine as ferrari teammates
"we wont race and risk marshall's lifes just because Ron wants to race" top comment by him ,magny course 98
Michael Fassbender to play Eddie Irvine in biopic 😏
Holy crap Clarkson looks like 54 when he was 39! 😂
Didn't seem to care about his health > smoking ect!
@@MAte925 Exactly, and don’t forget his love of drinking
One of the funniest interviews. Ever.
Basically top gear interview segment minus the track i love it
Legend has it Giancarlo is still on his ass looking to argue
More than ever, F1 needs more Eddie's....
They needed to have listened to Eddie and not make it such an aero formula and then absolutely neuter the engines.
@John-ok8ts They didn't reckon on how important the sound of those screaming V10's was, it was a huge part of the sport...
3:50 that worked out well 😂
red bull did become quite okay didn't they haha😅
Red bull yeah but jaguar were a disaster before the take over. I feel like Aston Martin are going that road too
If only the Ford bosses let do the team their job.. and Newey joined in 2002… (very close to joining them…

Northern Ireland's finest who spent four years with the Scuderia partnering the team's top boy, Michael that is.
Great character on and off the field.
Clarkson pretty much describing formula one in 2023 at the start.
Thought that was Michael Fassbender for a second.
🤣👍

They're time is not now... maybe late 2020s
Ferrari almost got it in 2022, but Red Bull was hard to catch. And then there's Leclerc that keeps crashing under pressure.
Jaguar eventually became Red Bull after a few buyouts so he accurately predicted the team that would beat them too lol
bruh this was just before Ferrari won 5 in a row with schumi, and 2 more constructers in 07 and 08. He would have been right if it was 2009 not 1999
he's hammered here
Swervin' Irvin!
He was my favourite
do you have more clips (or even full episodes) of the show?
I don’t think so, thanks for watching 👍
He came to Bathurst one year and paid his way in at the turnstiles!
Eddies been round the track more than a few times
8:12 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

A sulking Schumacher probably phoned them from the hospital to do exactly that or else.
its funny that he's so wrong about jag, but also so correct because they morphed into Red Bull

He would only win if Schumacher broke down! That was it!
"There's no need for that" when asked if he'll move to Coventry 😂
Even that clown Clarkson could not take Away from Electric Eddie .
The Jaguar Racing team became Red Bull ..

Irvine is in similar condition as Checo. Checo is fast and capable, but not as fast and as capable as Verstappen.
