According to folklore, the tree, which is inside the Allahabad Fort (under Army control) has the power to fulfil wishes. The Kumbh Mela, is a religious gathering which will be spread over an area of 45 km this year as compared to the 20 km radius earlier.

प्रयागराज में संगम तट पर स्थित अकबर के किले के अंदर पौराणिक अक्षयवट वृक्ष का संबंध सृष्टि की रचना से जुड़ा माना जाता है। पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार पृथ्वी पर प्रलय के दौरान जब सब कुछ जलमग्न हो जाता है, उस दौरान अक्षय वट वृक्ष को कोई नुकसान नहीं पहुंचता है। कहते हैं कि इसी अक्षय वट के एक पत्ते पर भगवान विष्णु बालरूप में विद्यमान रहकर सृष्टि के अनादि रहस्य का अवलोकन करते हैं।
