    Great video and review! Thanks!!!
    Still nice to watch it 6 years after being made!
    I completely agree about the importance of pulling characteristics (of not pulling you of the board ) and thus a more c-shaped layout is very helpful.
    What do you think about the wave-kite developments throughout the last years?
    Do you think materials and weight matters as much as advertised today?

    Amo mis Reo 015 - 10/6 mt strapless or tirantes , float in The wind a la deriva rápido ágil .

    Hi Tom great review,
    Wanted to ask you a few questions, Iv been riding Neo for the past two years and I would like to know how they both compare, does the Reo have similar low end power as the Neo? I really enjoy using 1-2m smaller kite for the same performance of a larger kite.
    How does the upwind ability of both kites compare?
    Thanks Tom

      Hi Carlos, yes the REO does have the same low end but its delivered differently, you need to keep the bar in and work the kite, the NEO is a delta kite so its got a bigger wind range but thats why it pulls so much and sometimes way too much. The REO depowers so much better and is faster and much lighter on the bar which makes it easy to generate power by moving the kite. In Cape Town the best riders are out in even light winds on small kites because they understand how to work the kite to get going and when you are going you dont need so much power. I think the NEO is going to be easier and goes upwind slightly better but when the wind picks up its frustrating to be pulled off a wave, the REO almost never gets over powered. Hey Tom thanks for all your info,
      I actually got to demo a new 10m Reo and its was way better than expected, what an amazing kite, it was around 12-15 knots, waist to chest high waves on a 5’10 pro wam. I am very impressed, looking forward to a few more sessions hopefully on an 8m 🤙🏼

      @@carlosancinez9116 I would love to buy a REO but my current kite is the perfect size for me. It's a 10.5. REO's only come in a 10 or 12 and I heard that the low end is weak, but I don't want to go as big as a 12. There's no way I can kite here in under 15 knots on a 5'10 surfboard. How heavy are you please?

    Hi Tom, great review thanks. Not sure if I missed it, but how heavy are you please?
    I would love to buy a REO but my 10.5 kite is the perfect size for me in our 17 to 23 knot Australian wind. REO's only come in a 10 or 12 and I heard that the low end is weak, but I didn't want to go as big as a 12. I'm 86kg and ride a 6' surfboard.

    Great review - thanks for the diagram - really useful explanation- sounds like it might be a good addition to my present kites, Core Sections. I have a 6m and a 9m and sounds like a similar kite design? one thing i really love with the Section is the way i can fire it through the wind window without it creating power... does that sound like the Ozone? Really keen to try one out and the 12m is next n my shopping list !!.

    Hi Tom,
    I'm reading some really bad reviews on the smaller sizes, namely the 5 and 6. The bigger sizes have a really positive feedback, from what I can find. What sizes did you test for this video?
    Also, I fly Enduro's ATM, really fun kites but kind of tricky to fly when the wind is erratic and gusty. Any info on how does the Reo handle gusts?

    • @wavekitesurfing1443
      @wavekitesurfing1443 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Weiner, wow I have not heard any bad reviews of smaller sizes. A few people I know have said they are too fast but that shows their inexperience in the waves as when you are riding waves you want the kite to move as quickly and as easily as possible, esspecially when flying with one hand.
      I have advised that if a kite is too fast then you simply put your hands closer on the bar so you have less leverage.
      Also yes I have heard the Enduro is not good in the gusts. I cant say I have ever heard the same said about the Reo V4. persoanlly I have had no trouble with stability. I think if the wind is really bad then you have to put more input into the kite to keep it moving when you feel a gust and this is really experience, the same as the fact that the Reo is not a delta/bow kite so to depower it in super strong wind or high gusts your edge harder with the board which makes the kite sit forwards in the wind window where there is less power which you just cant do with a bow/delta shape kite.
      If the wind is light then the Reo develops power when you power stroking it, so you build up your board speed and then you dont need to move the kite so much, again inexperienced riders are perhaps used to simply pulling the bar in or pushing it out which isnt quite the same on a C shaped hybrid.
      The main advantage of the C shaped hybrid is the consistant pull even when the kite is turning, lighter bar pressure and the ability to still be able to steer the kite when the bar is out. All characteristics you want when riding in waves. This comes at the cost of ease of use like big wind range unless you understand that you have to "work" the kite and keep pressure on the board edge to generate power and to depower too!
      I have lots of experience testing the 12 V4 but havent had the chance yet to teast all the smaller sizes.
      In Cape Town you will see many of the best wave riders on the smaller sizes of Reo absolutely ripping so I think its more down to experience and your level.
      Hope that helps :)

      Thank you for the thorough response!
      I am in the process of expanding my quiver with two wave kites (6 & 8), I had a brand preference for Ozone, but reading comments online about the 5m Reo, I sort of opened up to other brands as well. Now, I am looking to test before I buy and I have my sights set on the RRD Religion, Naish Slash, Cabrinha Drifter and Ozone Reo.
      I'm curious, what kind of waves do you get on a 12m? With this size, the winds should be pretty mild, and the swell proportionally smaller, right? It's pretty much like this where I live...
      Awesome place, Cape Town, I'm looking forward to visiting, maybe this (European) winter!

      Hi @@wienerschnitzel3644 , in my humble opinion do not give too much consideration to a 5m size kite review, it's VERY small, probably mostly dedicated to lighter riders than strong winds if you weight from 80Kg +

    The Neo is more powerful than Reo, and it’s positive because you can use 1-2 meter less, and a smaller size is always faster. And with the click bar the Neo has a big big range, but Reo has not it.

    • @kiteboardingwithTom
      @kiteboardingwithTom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you want too much power though? Is that a good thing? In my humble opinion I dont think so as it can pull you off the wave. The Neo does not sit forward in the window when edging it just continues to pull because its a delta kite. The Reo is exceptionally fast and as a c shaped hybrid more stable again in my humble opinion. Yes the Neo has a slightly bigger wind range but in the right hands (meaning if the rider understands about board speed and working the kite) then the Reo has a excellent low end as well as high end
