  • How do you raise daughters and sons who are less likely to get into an abusive marriage?
Author Sheila Gregoire did an all-new survey of 7,000 predominantly Evangelical women, which revealed how experiences in the church as teens affected their self-esteem, relationships, and marriage. Her findings are summarized in a new book, SHE DESERVES BETTER amzn.to/3oZU9Qr
She explains how some teachings from well-meaning youth pastors sound good on the surface, but don't include the whole story. These overly-simplistic views increase the likelihood of girls marrying abusers by 68%! (We talk about male victims of abuse too.)
Gregoire discusses these “tricky teachings” and explains to parents and to church staff how to phrase things better for young people. She covers ways to identify the red flags that predict a young person will marry a destructive person. (Hint: it’s often the most devout and dedicated young people who end up with a violent or coercive spouse.)
For Christians who’ve had to leave a marriage due to abuse, Gregoire gives tips on how to detect dangerous attitudes and how to unwind the messages that make them vulnerable.
We also discuss the irresponsible Christian authors who continue to promote teachings that endanger our young people.
