30 of my favorite snares for the Roland TD-50X!

  • Drum nerds, here’s a special feature on 30 of my favorite snares for the Roland TD50X! You’ll hear different rooms, ambience, effects (EQ, transients, compression, reverb, saturator, etc.), tunings, muffling, etc. Some snares feature exceptional positional sensing, or a great crack and rim shot, while others have a lot more ‘meat’. Snare wire tensions also vary depending on the sound I was going for. I nearly always use the sub-voice to add another layer of sound, and I often deepen the shell depth to add more body. The first section features snares from Vexpression’s ‘Arsenal’ and ‘Armory’ sound packs for the TD-50X. Next are a few snares from Drum-Tec’s Real Acoustics pack for the 50X. The last part of this video features some of my fave “stock” snares from Roland, including kits downloaded from Roland’s site. However, all but one of these snares have a lot of module edits I did. You’ll hear that many of the ‘stock’ snares sound far from ‘stock’. Here’s a tip: I’ve found one of the best ways to learn how to do your own edits is to buy a sound pack, and then go into all the sub-menus to learn the adjustments they made and how it affects the overall sound & timbre. Then, play around inside all your sub-menus. Change settings one by one, and exaggerate each move so you learn how it affects the sound and performance.
Hope you enjoy this video and the info helps you. Thanks for listening!

Hey Dennis. I'm all about getting the most realistic "snare sound" from a module and these ones are amazing and very useable in a live setting. Thanks for sharing. For these snare sounds alone I think the TD50 is worth it.

Thanks Paul! Totally agree. I should update this vid….I recently began adding real snare one-shot samples as the sub-layer. The snares in this video are good, but I think some of my newer ones deserve to be added to this list!
BTW - the module I’m using here is the 50X. I upgraded my 50 to the X last year. Game changer. Cheers!

Great ... are those Stock TD-50x Snares? And what is the Kick Drum especially during the first 4 examples?

Hi, I love sounds, especially Roland ones, but when I go to the website there are many packs to buy. Which one is your Roland box pack? Thanks? Or do you sell sounds?

Hi - not sure what you mean ‘Roland box pack’? Read the details in the description, and during the video I highlight which sound pack you’re listening to. Also, I don’t sell these sounds.
      Hope this info helps.

@@dennisagresti9367 Hi friend, I went to the Roland website and there are several sound packs to buy, apart from the one from Craig Blundell, there are several others and I was wondering which one you had bought, thanks.

Thanks! Installing sound packs is super easy. You have a few options. You can load a full pack which will overwrite your current kits, or you can load one kit at a time. I currently have a mix of stock kits along my faves from Vexpression and Drum-Tec packs. Vex (Alan) has a few very informative vids on YT that clearly explain how to load. Highly suggest you watch those.
When I buy a new pack, I first make notes of all my fave current kits and current kits I can replace, and then I do a full back-up which saves all my current kits. I then load the full expansion pack and choose which new kits I want. I then reload my backup. Next, I install the fave new kits individually from the expansion pack into empty ‘user kit’ slots, or I copy the new kit(s) over kits that I don’t want to keep. Lastly, I mix and match pieces of my expansion pack with my stock kits, do some additional of my own editing, and create all new faves. Hope this helps.

Please read my description above. You can buy sound packs directly from Vexpression, Drum-Tec and Edrum Workshop. I don’t sell ‘my’ sounds because many are made up from sounds I bought and then tweaked to my liking and how I play.
