You've provided many insightful tips. The switched 9 volt battery box is genius! It's very considerate to pack supplies that other bandmates might need. Because of your last comments I was curious to know more about how bassists use DI and preamp boxes so I went back to your Bass Chat #3 and learned a bit more. You're a rich source of information and inspiration. Thanks!
Thank you Patrick, I love those battery boxes. Chris from Practical patch also makes everything he does with a bullet proof build quality as well which gives me a lot of confidence in it being a reliable option. Honestly, it pays off, you never know when someone in the band could have something go wrong, so if all sides of the stage have a fix it just makes everything run so smoothly. On stage you Live as a band, die as a band - even if it’s all session musicians. So best to help each other out when we can. Thank you for watching the DI video, that one took a lot of work to film so I really do appreciate the kind feedback. Thank you again for watching and supporting the channel. Thanks Gavin
Gavin. There is a strong life lesson here about being organised. Necessity also is the mother of invention, I wonder how many groundbreaking bass solos have been played using splinter of wood from a chair back from the dressing room or the pill bottle lid from the keyboard player's anti-depressants? I am the most disorganised person on the planet and if I could play guitar you would be my best friend for sure... Snacks? I bet if you kept some munchies in your bag that would also keep the band running. Especially the drummer. That looks like hard work. Talking of drummers, they are the bassist friend aren't they? as you both provide the movement. But their sound is very dangerous for the ears as it comes in the form of hard impacts which the ear cannot react to fast enough to protect itself. Your advice about earplugs is golden then, especially if you hang around the kit. Great vid...such fun and so interesting.
Good point, the bass guitar itself is almost out of necessity- the precision bass gets its name as it’s meant to be a smaller more portable double bass with the accuracy/ precision of having frets... although interestingly I prefer not having frets 😂 Now snacks is actually a very good shout, especially for rehearsals, I do always make sure I have a bottle of water at the very least. And a very good point about the volume of drummers, for me personally I always try to be on the hihat side of the drummer which always makes for a very loud cymbal volume, so for me that makes the earplugs a must have. But now it’s fine further and I even have them for listening to gigs, you do start to get used to them after a little while. I’m tempted to do a video solely about hearing protection so would love to hear what you think of that idea. Thank you again for your continued support of my music and videos, i really do appreciate it. Thanks Gavin
Yeah I certainly can. I have had a lot of questions about cases and bags actually so gonna do a video about the best options, and within that I’ll give a detailed review of that bag. Hopefully should have that one out pretty soon. Until then though I can tell you that for the money it’s a pretty great bag. Light but does have the stuff foams and a neck cradle as well. Pocket is nice and big and while still a gig bag, it is definitely much better than the cheap ones that come with guitars/basses. Hope that helps until the video comes out. Thank you for watching and for commenting. I really appreciate it. Thanks Gavin
Very interesting, thanks. One comment, at one point, the background music was too loud, nearly preventing from hearing what you said. On the cable part, you may want to try Vovox cables, excellent sound (I swear you can hear the difference) and super durable (well.. they are not cheap neither...). Finally, you are absolutely right, playing without ear-plugs is not an option.... Cheers !
Thanks for watching. And thanks for the feedback, tried to lay a few tracks under and realised after it was up for a while that was a little loud at points so will be sure to fix that in the future vids, thanks. That’s for the cable suggestion, have heard good things about that brand. I’m really happy with my practical patch ones, would describe them in the same way you have the Vovox. Not cheap as it’s all made by one guy but they are incredibly good and sound amazing. Oh I’m so glad you agree about the earplugs, so important for us musicians and music lovers to make sure we don’t hurt our ears. Thank you again for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! Thanks Gavin
Hey, thank you so much for watching! Sadly I don’t actually know what brand it is, it was actually a gift from my grandad when I was in my teens and it’s the best strap I’ve ever used. I will say though that it is wide and very well padded which is a perfect combo for a heavy bass - my fretless is a pretty heavy bass. So I would definitely agree, good idea to try and find a good padded strap that is wide to spread the load. It certainly has worked for me. Hope that helps. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Thanks Gavin
@@gavinforbesmusic5164 cheers for the response. That’s great advise. I actually found your video as I’m looking to get the TGI gif bag. It’s well padded but like you said the front compartment is shallow. I will have to bring my pre amp Pedel with me with won’t fit in the pocket in the front.
@soulstart89 no worries! Ah I see, yeah sadly that may or may not work depending on the size of the pedal. I’m also sometimes reluctant to put pedals or heavy objects in the front pocket of some cases incase the bag gets bumped in transit. Some don’t have much padding under the pocket and can cause that pedal / object to bash the bass. Hope you manage to find a solution that gives you a good case as well as the pocket size you need. Oh look at Ritter - not sure what they have picket wise but are good with some options in a similar price point to the TGI. Hope that helps. And thank you again for watching. That means a lot. Thanks Gavin
I’m still loving mine. And with gigs/ rehearsals starting again for me this year, I can tell you it will still be my go to bag for my bass. I’ve used mine with a p bass, j bass and a 6 string Ibanez bass and all fit - but know some extended range/ large headstock basses might be tight - but even my hard case has issues with some of those ( stingray 5 is almost impossible for example). It’s a really good bag though, best gig bag I’ve used before going up to the very expensive mono cases. It’s not as sturdy as a hard case of course, but as gig bags go, it’s certainly the best bang for the buck I’ve been able to find! Hope that helps, but if have any other questions feel free to send em over 👍 thanks for watching and for commenting, I really appreciate it. Thanks Gavin
I need band, lol. Awesome video and advice, Gavin.
That’s the fun part! Haha thanks Jack, appreciate your consistent support!

Can you do a review on that bass gig bag? Looking for a gig bag that's fairly stiff (hold its form), cushioned, and lightweight. Thanks!

hey gavin. thanks for the video. What bass strap do you have in this video? its very wide. I have a heavy bass and it looks very suitable

How are you finding the Tgi bag? Is there much wiggle room in it after you put your bass in? I'm thinking of getting one for my fender pbass

@@gavinforbesmusic5164 Thanks very much for the reply! Happy New year 👍
@@gavinforbesmusic5164 I just ordered one online there now!
Awesome! I’m sure you’ll love it!
No worries! Thanks, hope it’s a good one for you too.
Didn't watch video but I'm guessing a bass is in your bag. Am I right?
I guess you’ll just have to watch it to see if you are right 😉😂
