All their solos are their way of showing their own style outside of Mamamoo, like Solar showing of that she can do more than belting, Wheein shows of that her voice is perfect for RnB, Hwasa takes her lifes most emotional moments and makes them into amazing songs, Moonbyul just wants to sing and try out different styles while having the best album concepts, like 6equence is a masterpiece.
🥰 Yeah, their songs /+400songs/ are just masterpieces. Especially, their live performances are insane. I just freaking love all of them.
To correct a couple of the minor mistakes along the way, Hip was released in 2019 on the full length album "reality in BLACK" eight months after Gogobebe and the Wind Wind EP and Piano Man was their 2nd single. Mr Ambiguous was their debut song.
Imo Mamamoo is the best girl group of all time, in any language, country or genre and it's a travesty that they're not worldwide superstars. Tho they're universally respected by other artists and the general public in Korea their album sales rarely top 100K while less talented groups sell in the millions. I think their agency/label RBW has to bear a majority of the blame for the disconnect between their artistry and their popular success. RBW had the excuse that they were a tiny startup agency when Mamamoo debuted as their first group but they're no longer a small company and I don't buy that excuse anyway since being small didn't stop Big Hit from helping BTS become global megastars. None of RBW's groups have achieved the success they deserve. You mentioned Purple Kiss but after Mamamoo came Vromance, one of the best male vocal groups of the 3rd gen, Oneus, who debuted shortly after boy groups Stray Kids and Ateez and should be just as popular & successful considering their vocal talent and dance skills, and Onewe, who write fantastic songs, feature one of if not the best male singer of the 4th gen, and are one of the best bands to come out of Korea.
You're really missing out by not checking out Wheein and Hwasa's solo stuff. Both have had #1 hits as solo artists and have extensive solo discographies including solo songs & albums, OSTs for kdramas & films, and features & collabs with other artists.
Wheein was the first MMM member to have a #1 song with Anymore back in 2017. Technically she was the featured artist on the song composed by and credited to Jungkey but she was the sole singer on the track. Anymore is the one of the only songs I can think of where the singer took 2nd billing to the composer. Wheein songs with MVs include Easy, Goodbye, Watercolor and Make Me Happy. Wheein received an award last year as one of the ten best OST singers and her OSTs are not to be missed. I'd start with the ballads With My Tears and Shine on You, two masterpieces from 2020. Watercolor is from her Redd EP, which has a dance or special video for every song. All are excellent but imo the must-hear b-sides on Redd are Butterfly (featuring r&b legend G Soul) and Trash (featuring rapper pH-1). Make Me Happy is from her first album with her new label The L1ve and was intended to be an easy listening track so it's a bit of a departure from her usual explorations into various styles of r&b.
Hwasa is one of the biggest solo artists in Korea. Her first #1 song was Don't in 2018 with rapper Loco and producer Woogie, which has to go down as one of the sexiest collabs in kpop history. She followed it up in 2019 by scoring another #1 hit with her solo debut Twit and the following year with one of 2020's biggest hits, Maria. She also won the 2020 MAMA solo dance award for Maria, beating out nominees like dance legend Taemin of SHINee. Not bad for a girl who's considered to be the worst dancer in a group that's not known for their dance skills to begin with. Every song on the Maria EP is terrific but my favorite is LMM (Lost My Mind), which is a bookend song to Maria. LMM is a masterpiece and the MV is just as gorgeous as the song. Her most recent solo song is I'm a B(*tch). I think I"m a B is a great song and her dancing was even better than Maria but for some reason it wasn't a bit hit. I'd also recommend Don't Touch Me, a song she recorded with the temporary female super group Refund Sisters, and her features on Hula Hoops by DPR Live and Q by Onewe.
There's a ton more solo tracks by all the members. Mamamoo has been one of the hardest working groups in kpop ever since their debut and they show no signs of slowing down. A moomoo counted up all the new covers and original songs they released and/or performed in 2022 as a group & solo or as features & collabs with other artists and came up with a total of 57 and I don't think that includes the songs Solar sang during her critically acclaimed musical theatre debut playing the lead in Mata Hari for a three month run. And as though they were bored and had nothing better to do they embarked on their first world tour with concerts in Seoul and Japan towards the end of the year. They've only announced dates in Asia and the Pacific islands so far but hopefully we'll hear about other dates & locations soon. Imo the other concerts will be sporadic because they have so many solo commitments they won't be able to leave Korea for an extended time. For example, Hwasa recently launched The Hwasa Show on tv, Wheein is starting work on her next solo album, and Solar & Moonbyul are gearing up for their next project as the subunit duo Mamamoo+.
Around 21:45 you commented about Mamamoos company RBW (Rainbow Bridge World), Mamamoo was the first group under the label, then Vromance, Onewe (Kband), Oneus, and Purple Kiss. RBW has now purchased WM Entertainment (Oh My Girl's Label) and DSP Media (Kard's Label). One of the owners Kim Do-hoon is Mamamoo's main producer, most of the early songs were written in part by him.

Changsub and solar were actually bestfriends along with Chorong from Apink. He guests solarsido (solar's yt) and sing each other's song there.

Speaking of solos, once you check out more of their solo stuff you should definitely see their solo switch stage from their latest tour, the members covered each others solos songs (songs covered: Moonbyul's Eclipse and Lunatic, Hwasa's Twit and Maria, Solar's Honey and Spit it Out, and Wheein's Watercolor and Make Me Happy). It's iconic.
In my mind they are all ace's. The sad thing about mamamoo, is that RBW has not promoted them well. I can understand at the start, they were not known. They were on the brink of disbanding at one point. The world doesn't know about them. They should be much bigger than they are.
I think you got some dates and facts wrong, or confused too...
in 2022, Mamamoo had one (mini) album, with the title track illella, and started their world tour (wish they would tell us where else they are going to, getting worried that their world tour will only include countries in asia). I'm a little confused by Mamamoo+ , i thought there was going to be an album, but there is only one song. Moonbyul had three albums (and also won a singing competition). Solar had one album and a lead role in the musical mata hari (In my opinion, her singing improved with her experience in the musical theatre world). Wheein had one album, and a bunch of OST's. Hwasa has been pretty quiet, and had a few colabs this year (including one with Psy) and started a tv(?) show.
Moonbyul has been the most prolific of the four girls as far as original solo works are concerned. She is also now the most credited female in kpop. Wheein and Hwasa have done a similar amount of solo works. Solar is a very busy girl, with all she does with solarsido.
In the two years before HIP, they released 4 albums (I think you were saying they had a break at that time). It was before the album Travel (which included the title track AYA, and the b side DINGGA) that they had a 1 year break.. but that time was filled with more solo projects from the girls.
I saw that you’ve already reacted to wheein, solar and moonbyul solos. You should react for sure to hwasa solos too , they’re iconic. She’s the first Korean soloist to debut #1 with an album on the iTunes USA also in 2020 she won best solo artist at the awards and best performance solo at mama (the most important award in SK), she was the soloist who got more wins in 2020. In 2021 she became the first Korean soloist to debut with three songs (2 on the top 3) on the billboard chart without any promotion or support from the agency , the only artist of 3rd generation who got 3 paks.
And in 2022 she’s one of the soloist (after Jennie and Lisa of BP)one that keeps getting more and more followers on Spotify without a comeback. I suggest to react to the iconic song “Maria” then “Twit” and “I’m a B”

As you asked, I do have one group better than btob and mamamoo could suggest to you. Check out ‘Big ma ma’s killing voice’ and you know what I am talking about. Don’t get me wrong, I am a moomoo and stan for Mamamoo since 2014. But you better check out ‘big mama’.

I think the only reason they aren't worldwide superstars is because they haven't done an English language album. In Hwasa's case, she should make a Spanish language album, she'd be a megastar in Latin America.
