I have the 4.5" 45 XDM. Great gun! My only gripe is that the 45 never went to the XDM Elite level in the full-size category. Now it's a collector's item, thanks to the resurgence of 10mm and the love affair with 9mm that everyone seems to have. For another 45, I'm looking at the Walther PPQ M2, HK USP Tactical, FNX, and 545. I'm not particularly a big fan of the 1911 single stacks.
The "Grip Zone" grip was a one-of-a-kind at the time. The marketing could have been considered cheesy, but the grip was like having a custom stipple job from the factory, for no extra charge. It is the only grip I didn't cover with a grip sleeve. Now, you stop calling Springfield crappy. Other firearm companies have funded gun control, knowingly or unknowingly. All it takes is a Google search. The hatred for Springfield importing foreign-manufactured firearms is lame. The same hatred isn't applied to other companies that do the same thing...I can give you a list if you like..There are more important things to hate than Springfield.
True, Croatia has a great history on firearms, like many other European countries. Hating a gun because it's Croatian, while - for example - loving Turkish firearms is really stupid. After all, Croatia didn't support ISIS. Croatia didn't bomb USA allies in the war against ISIS. Croatia didn't bomb any school in Syria. Didn't invade Syria, Iraq and Cyprus. Didn't commit genocides. Croatia didn't help Russia during the war. Turkey did and is still funding aggressiveness through their selling firearms which are cheap knockoffs of other companies. So, why buy Turkish and support crimes but hate because of being made in Croatia?
Never had an issue with my Springfield XDS 9mm, XDM Elite Compact .45acp, or my Hellcat Pro and I’m a Glock fanboy. SPN that was a solid presentation, well done!
All I have to say is that the local gun merchant has a brand spanking new XD mod 3 for $286. And I'm getting the damn thing, post haste. My buddy has the XD-M Elite 10mm, and I love that thing.
My XD 45 stopped cycling hollow points correctly after about 10 years and 2000 rounds through it. I changed all the mag springs, same issue. I then sent it in for service and they changed all the recoils springs and it was fine. Although I only kept it for a year as I traded it towards an XD-M Elite. Which of course has been absolutely perfect., And i have 3 elites in .45 AC and 100mm and 9mm and love them. Great guns.
xdm & xd sub-compact...both 45 acp. Both have several thousand rounds. Not. One. Single. Jam. No cleaning issues. Oh and BTW that was at least 5 different brands of ammo and 230, 200 & 185 gr round nose and HP that didn't jam. What we have here is Glock snob. All of my buddies who have Glocks always are amazed at how jam free and accurate my xds are. Looks like a do not recommend channel file here...
Have had a Springfield XDm 4.5 9mm for many years. Find it extremely accurate and reliable having shot over a thousand rounds without one failure of any kind. The only changes to the gun I have made is installing a TruGlo TFX Pro Sight Set on it (I always add either TruGlo TFX night sites or Holosun Red/Green Dots to all my handguns unless it’s one of my target handguns with adjustable sites).
I love my XDs and wouldn’t trade it for the world. It is a great handgun and has never failed me. I love the added safety features and the quality that Springfield put into its handguns. Don’t second guess them; Springfield’s rock!!! 🤘
Have had my XD and sub compact for 10 years … absolutely no regrets or no problems! Great guns yeah there a lil boring just like glocks … but id still trust my life w them damn guns !
Bought an elite 3.8 full size for my first pistol. Got a gear up deal and a sale for $400 last year and couldn’t be more satisfied. The same store just got in a used 3.8 compact with the optic plate for the same price and I think I’m sold on it, too.
I have 2 xd 9mm - 1 sub compact and the other is the tactical, both gen 1. I have about 25,000 rounds through the tactical and about 10,000 rounds through the sub-compact. Neither have had any real malfunctions. About 29,000 of the 35,000 rounds were reloads.
Got 9mm, .45 ACP and 10 mm all Springfield’s. No issues over the span of 10 years. I’m not saying they are the only guns without issues or the best gun on the market. I am saying that all mine have been flawless and accurate. Zero regrets.
That "grip zone" 45acp that I rented at the range felt great in the hands. It had no felt recoil and seemed like you could appendix carry it on your bare belly in comfort but great grip 😂
I tried to love the Hellcat and I just don't. It is uncomfortable in the hand and very snappy and hard to shoot accurately. The Shield Plus is a better micro 9 in basically every aspect; better trigger, better grip texture, and it shoots like a bigger gun.
I used to have a full size XD9. I ended up giving it to my dad because he really liked it and he was thinking about buying one but it was a great gun. As you said, I put thousands of rounds of all kinds through it with zero malfunctions.
I just ordered the XD Mod 3 for $300. I was going to wait to see if they dropped an Echelon compact soon and they probably will. But with the XD’s proven track record and that price, I don’t think you can go wrong with. Thanks as always for the review.
My first handgun was an XDM Elite 3.8, it started having light primer strikes pretty early on and it scared me away from the XD lineup for years. That said, I would give them another shot. The Mod 3 is especially tempting for $250.
Never owned an XD but I do carry a Hellcat every day with at least 2k rounds through it with no issues. It was the first handgun I purchased myself and made me a fan of their products.
I just got a black XDM Elite OSP 9mm. It's my favorite pistol. Came with 5 of the 22 round mags and a 35 round mag. To me, it's the best 9mm and I've wanted one for years.
Cool review! I’ve shot my full-size XD-9 (4” barrel) handgun since 2021. Got 3.5K rounds through it. Runs flawlessly. Had one light primer after changing to lighter striker spring (returned to stock immediately). It’s been great! I think you’re right, mostly company politics bother critics. The gun itself is simple and rugged. I did upgrade it with a few mods to quench my thirst for performance though (not that it needed it). Started with TLR-7A flashlight for positive identification in the dark, then Trijicon HD tritium night sights. Added the complete trigger kit from Powder River Precision (shorter take up and reset/sits at 4.5 lbs pull weight) and their extended grip safety. DPM triple spring recoil rod for reduced recoil and elimination of jams. Aluminum backplate and striker indicator guide, and coiled striker retaining pin (top of slide - stock known to bend or break with excessive dry-fire)). Even laser-bore sighted it (amazon kit) for improved accuracy. This thing shoots tighter groups than my higher-end FN-509 Tactical (I’ll laser-bore my FN as well to compare and see if that evens the score). Also, the smooth grip on the XD (mod 1) feels great carrying appendix (comfortable). FN-509’s aggressive grip texture leaves abdomen skin feeling raw. Next llooking to get the Springfield Echelon, heard that thing is amazing! 😎🇺🇸
A gun shop close to me has the XDM Elite 9mm, 3.8 inch, on sale for $399, so I picked one up with so/so expectations. After taking it to the range I can tell you the XDM FAR exceeded my expectations and although I don’t have a zillion rounds through it, it has functioned flawlessly.
I do love my XD pistols but I have to admit, sometimes I get more felt recoil from the XD9 due to the high bore access, yet it’s still very manageable.
The only Glock I ever owned had FTE’s and stovepipe issues with multiple types and brands of ammo. I now own multiple Springfields and Sigs with no, nothing, nadda issues ever, no matter what ammo I have run through them. Glocks make decent paperweights as far as I am concerned, but darn expensive ones!!!
Not many people know but if you run the mod 1 xd line you can get the safariland triple retention holster that fits all the handguns in 9mm, .40 and .45 no matter if they are sub compact up to 5 inch in one holster. Not sure about the newer double stacks. Prob just a different number holster than the mod 1's.
I think the XD series is very underrated. They are very well made, accurate, and reliable. Honestly, the only complaint I have ever had about them is that the backstrap safety must be depressed to cycle the slide and lock it to the rear. That can be a pain. Aside from that, XD’s are a great choice and a good value.
That "hole" at the top of the slide is a roll pin stop for the striker i believe, not a witness hole. Got my XD-9 off a coworker for $275 about 6-7 years ago. It sat in his dad's closet for over a decade before that. A bit under 1,000 rounds thru mine and never a malfunction.
I have a XD9 service that i got from PSA a while back. $269 and tax, free shipping at the time. Got it home for $325 after FFL transfer. It has proven worthy over the years even though i almost feel like I stole it. Not 1 misfire or anything, somewhere around 2k rounds by now. Definitely a keeper.
I love my xd9 service! Check out PRP Extreme Trigger kit, barsto extended & ported barrel and the OSP slide from Springfield.. these 3 upgrades turn xd9 into a race gun
I carried an XD 45 for years, sold it, now I carry either my Walther PPS, or HK P30. Owned a Glock, not impressed, had a 1911 smooth shooter but only 8 rnd capacity. Sticking with 9mm, for the common caliber.
Finally guy that knows his guns, and I m not saying that cuz I have them all and I mean all xd series all calibers and lengths first and second GEN all the XDms all the hellcats variants , probably 30 K rounds altogether never a one single hiccup, I think and I agree it’s the most reliable guns in the market period ,love the knowledge and honesty, subscribed
According to their website, they discontinued the 9mm xdm elite compact 3.8. I just picked one up, hopefully they release a new model keeping it compact size because I fear they’re giving into the micro fad and going to ride the tail of the hellcat
You’re right. I did a 460 Rowland barrel in my xd. No comp no port factory springs. Vid is on here somewhere. (Two mag springs) 100 rds no problem but broken hand and wallet. DT 450smc zero probs all stock.
SPN should I have my sister get a Springfield XD model or the equalizer? She’s not weak and small handed but she likes the grip safety. I don’t know what someone who will almost never shoot should get but she just wants a home defense pistol.
Used to shoot speed steel with a xdm 4.5 over a decade ago. That thing was run hard without a single issue. I don’t remember ever cleaning it. Was a huge surprise when I later found out that they get a lot of shit. lol, oh well.

Next llooking to get the Springfield Echelon, heard that thing is amazing! 😎🇺🇸
My buddy's XD 45 shoots like a DREAM!
Great video! I would love to get an XD Mod 2 in 40 sub compact
XDs are great guns. Ergonomics are great, dead reliable, shoot better than Glocks.
Never had an issue with my XDM Elite.
I know they have had issues from these models but I've had 2(1 new and 1used) and they were both reliable and arguably great for the price
You mean the loaded chamber indicator?
Have 2 xd9 a service model and a subcompact gripzone. Run flawlessly love them
I have a XD9 service that i got from PSA a while back.
My xdm elite 10mm 3.8 is flawless. Best shooting 10mm in the polymer line.
I carried an XD 45 for years, sold it, now I carry either my Walther PPS, or HK P30. Owned a Glock, not impressed, had a 1911 smooth shooter but only 8 rnd capacity. Sticking with 9mm, for the common caliber.
Nice to see a full size pistol. High capacity mags and accuracy. Getting my 1st XD-m elite in a week.
Bought my XD in 2017. Thousands of rounds and it has never had a failure.
Amazing pistols. Great series of firearms.
Never had any problems yet with my mod 2 single stack. Love it
According to their website, they discontinued the 9mm xdm elite compact 3.8.
I don’t know what someone who will almost never shoot should get but she just wants a home defense pistol.
i carry a xds 45 and its reliable, comfortable to carry and easy to conceal.
Used to shoot speed steel with a xdm 4.5 over a decade ago. That thing was run hard without a single issue. I don’t remember ever cleaning it. Was a huge surprise when I later found out that they get a lot of shit. lol, oh well.
