Rhodey fought Tony at his house because Tony was being an asshole. He was drunk, treating the Iron Man armor as a toy and a party trick and he was being self-destructive, not to mention the people at the party who could get hurt. Tony is technically a civilian and Rhodes is an officer in the U.S. Air Force, so I think it's within Rhodey's purview for him to stop Tony and commandeer one of his armors.
Very much so. The Iron Man suit is the equivalent a cruise missile on the weaker end. Cars have more regulations than the Iron Man suit, yet Tony is drunk af around a crowd of civilians pot shooting bottles of liquor with repulsor beams. It would be crazy for a US Solider to see that and not think its time to shut it down. Also, how would it look, days after the Stark Expo, Tony signs over his entire company to his Assistant, joy rides an F1 car in Monaco, gets into a fight with a man with the same technology as him (something he just said was impossible), and now having house parties with the Iron man Suit after Rhodey just vouched for him in front of the entire US government.
Tony was crashing out hard, Rhodey had to beat his ass. The suit was just compensation at that point.
yep. plus Tony already had the suits fitted for him Rhodes and Virginia (Pepper) as a safety precaution so he never actually stole anything.

honestly this is one of my favorite mcu films purely because Mickey's character just oozes cool.

I hate what the MCU did to James Rhodes and the War Machine character in the MCU. What a waste. He is such a better character in the comics and was Ironman for quite a long time.
But just talking MCU, their hot takes on Rhodes make my head hurt. Young adults these days are so spoiled and just don't understand that the freedom to do what they have the freedom to do (which in a lot of cases is the absolute bear minimum) didn't just happen. There is a cost to obtaining and maintaining the freedoms we have in America. Whether we agree with the way the military functions, it is the big stick that the military shakes at the rest of the world that maintains America's status. The character of Ironman was created to make certain observations and statements about the American military complex. The way that the MCU characterizes Rhodes is that he is Tony's friend yes, but he has sworn an oath to the military as a pilot and colonel. He did not move to take the Ironman prototype until he observed Tony acting like a child with it. It isn't a toy. And Tony was not using it in the manner in which he swore in the hearing he was using it. Remember that Rhodes' professional relationship with Tony was his liaison as a weapon's contractor. Tony didn't share with anyone why he is acting out. Of course Rhodes is going to look at it as a career military man would and seek to provide the US military with a workin prototype. Remember, foes of the US are all working to create similar suits. Tony is the
one acting like a child. It isn't Rhodes. If you want to say that he could've tried to get Tony to reveal the source of his acting out, ok but remember...Tony was on the verge of really hurting someone and instead of talking after the party was cleared, he chose to start a fight. Being completely on Tony's side while not understanding why Rhodes as a Colonel in the military took the prototype is so short-sighted.
