    Smart move! Walking away from a high potential of not getting paid. Warranties usually are out to “Rheem” either the tech or the homeowner. A sad but true situation I kinda feel for the owner but you gotta do what you gotta do

    Don’t blame you on the home warranty. The last company I worked for did some home warranty work and it was always a PITA to deal with them.

    Curtis, I just ran into something strange on my heater. I woke up Tuesday morning and it was cold. I went to up my T-Stat and it was dead. I pulled the cover off my unit and one breaker was popped, the one providing the transformer power and 2 of the elements. I took a good look and found a limit switch blown. Because I was freezing, I pulled the wire off of that element and reset the breaker to get a little heat. I kept an eye on it for a while to make sure it was safe, then buttoned it all up. What's strange is it's now putting out more heat with 2 elements than it was before with 3. Both the dual element and the single one are only a little over a year old, so I'm guessing they are "Made in China".

      @grandinosour 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I had the same problem on a non-heat-pump air handler in a rental unit, It was just a 2 element 15kw heat strip that had locking overheat relays. I just disconnected one of them and it has been smooth sailing through the cold snap...My guess is that the tenant was closing air vents in rooms not needing heat to save electricity and this was creating an air flow problem.
      I will probably leave them like they are until someone complains about weak heating capacity, upon which I will explain that all vents must remain open.

    Well, the first gent had the option to pay you for your services and submit the invoice to home warranty himself. That's fair, not like you outright refused to help him. If that roll out was any indication, there may be bigger issues with that unit and you might have walked into a mess, that he couldn't afford and you had to condemn. I think walking away was a smart move. Sadly, the home owner learns a valuable lesson about home warranty companies.

    DANG Curtis, you just can't win with the electricity lately! looks in slow-mo like it jumped off the black hot wire terminal on taht contactor 3-4 inches in an arcing pattern and bit you! Wonder if that terminal is loose? Could be another case of open neutral or ground! Glad you're ok but sure makes for some good entertainment! Cheers from ~102mi SE of you in florida.
