Angel Reese can’t finish around the basket…
A majority of her rebounds are off of her own missed shots…
She’s stat padding to get double doubles…
These narratives have been spiraling all across social media, so let’s take a quick look at the numbers…
Angel has grabbed the most offensive rebounds in the ENTIRE WNBA this season, and it’s not particularly close. She also has the highest offensive rebound percentage as 14% off her total rebounds are offensive rebounds…
So what’s really going on here? Let’s break it down.

Aw HELL yeah. She's stat padding like crazy in trash time. Game's over, all the starters except Reese have left the court. Reese is chasing after a couple of points just to get to 10 because she missed so many easy shots earlier in the game.
This has more to do with how rebounds are counted. It's beyond ridiculous to think she's missing shots on purpose for the sake of catching her own rebounds. Maybe these stats just don't mean as much as we want them to.
Angel isn’t the player that the league hopes that she would be, and that she is far behind Cait in every regard, if Angel is getting smothered down low she should pass it out to an open teammate but she can’t even do that, she has no court vision, I believe that her quest to grab as many rebounds is that she could at least be the league leader in some thing because she won’t get rookie of the year and she might get second team all Wnba during her career but not first and def not MVP
Other players need to box out. She looking like Barkley on the glass whether they are her misses or not. A rebound is a rebound. Shaq got a lot of his own misses and dunked them back in. It takes the heart of the defense. You got the stop yet give up the rebound. That hurts. With that being said if she made half those first attempts she be averaging a lot more points and less rebounds.

...not so much her talent but definitely her integrity.....and considering how the defensive skills of the whole league completely suck she has plenty of opportunities to pad her numbers. It really does look like someone taught her how to miss to the other side of the basket so she can easily get her own rebounds. She gets a lot of rebounds but does it help her team to win games ?????? I guess it's better than letting the other team clean up the garbage but it also seems to be detrimental to her team mate's enthusiasm to play with her. No one wants to be on that team anymore and recruiting new talent doesn't seem to be going well either.

One thing I've noticed about her is that she has absolutely zero vertical.. she'll be in a position where normally a player would jump.. a foot or so.. then release the ball for the easy shot.. but she, right at that moment she should be lifting off the ground, just flings the ball like a shot put without jumping at all. This makes her shots awkward and highly inaccurate and also, since she never jumped.. means she's getting into position for the rebound while other players are still in the air. It's really bizarre.
She had a leg and foot injury in her time at Maryland so she had to changed game up a bit

Some of Reese's team mates get recognition but it is from flagrant fouls - likely due to the frustration from watching Reese's selfish play. Many of those mebounds could/should be easy assists to her team mates.

I don’t understand why she doesn’t pass on some of these. Questionable decision making and questionable coaching if they haven’t called her out on this. It also seems like she has absolutely no dexterity with her weak hand. Some of those attempts are horrendous.

You shouldn’t get any hype or credit for rebounds that don’t help your team at all. 100% meaningless. Also, Caitlyn Clark is 4 times the player Angel Reese is and this conversation is ugly and needs to be put to bed.
It helps her team because it helps them keep the ball, even tho she can’t shoot. Offensive rebounding hides a poor field goal percentage when you look at the points per possession numbers and stop looking at just shot attempts

Your team if you grab the ball away from your own team and jack it into the bottom of the back board. Get it back again and then throw it over the back board? You get 2 rebounds and your team gets nothing.

Angel Reese would fit in perfectly with all those WNBA blooper videos showing complete incompetence. Offensively, she's one of the worst players in the league. She can't shoot, even from inside 3 feet of the rim. She double dribbles. Her footwork is terrible. She travels but the refs don't call it. Reese has no court vision - once she gets an offensive rebound, the only thing she sees is the rim. Her teammates can be wide open, but she never passes to them. She'd rather go for a shot that of course is way off the mark. She gets stuffed so often that the Butterball Hotline needs to use her as a consultant.
All this, and her fans seem to think she should be ROTY. Unbelievable.
And she doesn't get back on defense after getting her shot blocked or missing a layup.

@@Orxbane ...there are highlites but all I can see when I watch some of the really good offense is that most of it is the result of NO DEFENSE. 95% of the WNBA game is glorified, wannabe offense - the game they think they are copying from the NBA. They just don't know what defense is - it is too much work for them. They have gotten away with it for 30 years. The good players in the W are starting to incorporate more of CC's style into their teams and it shows - I'm seeing a lot of team play as opposed to individual shooting and the league coaching isn't keeping up with the trend. Soon all the better teams are going to wiping the floor with the teams that can't play (or defend against) the more complicated offenses.

Players that play mostly in the paint always have their shots blocked the most. Zion williamson for example had was second in having his shot blocked last season. Giannis was 6th and tyrese maxey was 8th

If you shot under 40% from the paint you'd be prepared to grab an O-Rebound every time you shot as well.

She has no hops, and often seems like she tries to get the ball off quick to avoid getting it blocked.
She just seems to lack fundamentals and also can't jump. 2 things she should be able to improve on if she tries.
The fact a 12 minute video of this type of thing exists, after a player’s ROOKIE year is absolutely GOATED.
Reese is missing so badly, only she knows where the ball is going.
I think what helps her out on these rebounds is the fact that 1. Her eyes are so incredible far apart from each other that her field of view is just way broader than that of regular people, which helps her track her own shots as they brick off of the backboard and
2. Her long fake nails help her secure the ball more easily 😂😂

In 10th grade, Jimmy Price (her coach) noticed her right arm was double-jointed. Reese couldn’t get her elbow all the way tucked in. So, with the blessing of her St. Frances coaches, the shot doctor switched Reese’s jump shot to her left hand and started the process from scratch.
This could explain why her shots looks weird and misses shots. She's not doing what Andrea Drummond is doing.

A guard at 50% shooting is efficient, like my Celtics guy Jaylen Brown. But guards at least 45-50% range.

Love how the announcers never state the horrible decisions these players make on a minute by minute basis. During an NBA game the announcers have no problem pointing out bonehead plays but can't do that in a WNBA game. That would be counterproductive to the message.

Bro, I'm Brazilian speaking and my English is pretty weird, but I had to comment, Angel Reese is a good player who has real talent and shows it in moments, but man it's a fact that she seeks status in the league, and if If we were to compare an NBA player with her, it would be a mixture of three players at certain moments of the game: Kenneth Faried, Josh Smith and Zion, she clearly dominates the rebounds, easily opens up space in the paint, always seems to make the opposing player suffer, but When you finish you keep thinking, why do you finish with your right hand rather than your left hand? She is a player who clearly needs to be talked to next season to resolve their attitudes, especially when it comes to passing, as she doesn't look back like Josh Smith.

One major factor in her rebound numbers are also that nobody can shoot. Lots of missed shots up for grabs.
The issue with Reese's game is that she lacks the court vision to reset the play after offensive rebounds. If she worked on getting passes out to corners when teams collapse for rebounds, her team would likely get more open shots because teams have to crash on defense, or they will never get stops. I believe she is going for every putback because she knows a foul will likely come if the defense gets impatient.
Reese is a ball hugger ... while CC dominates in points and assists..

One thing to add is that Angel almost never passes after she rebounds the ball. She can have her whole team open for a shot and she will hold the ball and make a terrible shot. She does not share well.
I don’t think she is purposely missing shots to get rebounds, I just think she throws up a lot of trash and has a great motor. If the WNBA had the coaching and funds the NBA did they would have worked on her footwork and rebuilt her jumper. Shit like that isn’t uncommon when players get to the pros. She should be one of them, she has great motor and could be a great #2 option on a team or a #3 option on a top team if she could even shot league average.

They should introduce a cool-down period of, say 5 seconds, so that rebounds off your own shots are only counted if they are more than 5 seconds apart.
