Are you on Android 10? If so, then you're out of luck. I'm using an A21 on Android 10, and I couldn't use custom fonts/emojis either. The app said it only supports Pie 9.0 as the latest Android version.
sometimes it'll work on tiktok for me its confusing because when I make a video and add text and put an emoji it'll be iPhone but in the comments and stuff its still android
