We've lost our parents to a DOOMSDAY CULT - Apostate Sisters

  • Today I spoke with Patti and Nancy, who grew up in the Worldwide Church of god but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart.
We touched on many topics, including:
    • How cult founder Herbert Armstrong tried to find and create the "true church" as he created the Worldwide Church of god.
    • How the cult created high, holy days based in large part on the Old Testament calendar and instituted endless rules and regulations for congregants.
    • Seeing Herbert Armstrong's pattern of exploiting the vulnerable.
    • Being taught to hate and fear the world, its systems, and the cultures in it.
    • Feeling safety and pride over being secure as one of god's "elect."
    • Watching their parents lose their connection to the real world as the cult sucked them in deeper and deeper, to the point that their parents have barely spoken to them in 20 years.
    • Growing up thinking the world was probably going to end soon so it wasn't important to be very connected to the world, but to instead remain focused on the world to come.
    • Being insulated from other cultures and ideas in the context of a strong "us vs. them" mentality.
    • Noticing that the church was hyper focused on describing the chaos and dangers of the world while describing themselves as the "safe place" for believers.
    • Seeing marriage to a Christian man as a healthy choice in order to remain equally yoked and under the authority and protection of a man, with the background goals of feeling valued and secure.
    • Being shamed, as a child, for exploring her own body, and being told that her body and its ability to give and receive pleasure was "for her future husband," which ultimately led to a cycle of disembodiment and shame.
    • Realizing that Christians often poison the well against important information and ideas, leading people to eventually deconstruct as they see Christians as no longer honest and safe.
    • Working hard to improve the world for future generations through a perspective of "optimistic nihilism."
Many thanks to Patti and Nancy for sharing their stories and insights!

A reminder to all of us that *political power* matters - local, state, and federal. It is the way we solve our differences without killing each other. *Election winners of the majority party make the laws, determine the punishments, set the tax brackets, and shape the judiciary.* I spend a lot of my free time supporting the Democratic party. Even though here in Western North Carolina it's a real uphill battle, we are closing the gap! Every election we lose by less. No seat undefended. It's really important that we all help elect Democrats, and we cannot abdicate our responsibility to participate in electoral politics. Make sure all of our friends and family are registered to vote and that everybody votes. Your vote is equal to one billionaire's vote. If everybody participated, the red side would never win another election because their policies are way out of the mainstream. That's why they (Rs) suppress the vote, that's why they lie and say voting doesn't matter, that's why they're undermining the rule of law, that's why they're funding third party candidates who can't win but could draw off votes from Biden. Let's vote out the Republicans. In 2024 we must send Biden back to our house with a *bright blue* Congress, flip as many state legislatures and governors Blue as possible, and make sure we know our BLUE down ballot candidates for SOS, AG, judges, County commission, school boards, and all the other races. 🗽⚖️🌊🇺🇸🌍🌎🌏🫶🏿💙🩵
And always remember, the US Constitution created our secular government.
THE USA IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION
The U.S. Constitution is a secular document. It begins, "We the people," and contains no mention of "God" or "Christianity." Its only references to religion are exclusionary.
Thanks to Tim and these strong smart guests! Loved this interview!

Damn, I was raised Methodist but I was around evangelicals in the 80s when my Father became "born again". If you ask me, being born again made him so self righteous and mean at times....he was loving and generous but it was so passive aggressive at times. To me religion is poison. Nothing more than mind control. I do miss some of the coming together of it. The dinners, concerts etc. I wish more atheists got together that way.

Tim, what you are doing DOES matter. Of course, if the meteor comes, not so much!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
But until then, as long as these videos are accessible in some kind of way, your voice will live on YEARS AND DECADES, maybe even CENTURIES after you are gone.
This is one of the greatest times in the history of humanity for all of us to leave our marks. Someone will find us. And our stories will resonate. Even if the religious zealots gain power and find a way to scrub TH-cam of all things secular, there will still be remnants somewhere. Like an old photo album discovered in a box in an attic.
I know it may seem futile sometimes, brother Tim. But what you are doing ABSOLUTELY MATTERS!
Keep up the good work, my friend.

I agree with growing food as much as possible for your residence. I have a porch with a potted salad garden I eat fresh from daily during the growing season. No pesticides, no traveling to get it to my plate, higher nutrient values because you harvest ripe not earlier to extend shelf life & it tastes 10X better. There is also the addition of routine, (watering, harvesting, pruning, etc), for me, that makes me excited to get to that point of my day. Sun, water, soil & seeds are all that is required for plants to grow. Gardening is just adding in people who utilize them.

I can definitely relate to them there. Working at a retirement home just recently, the amount of people who're by far, and have grown older, have grown so attached to the 'return' of the nonexistent, but can't actually stop and ask themselves why they're even inside of a retirement home is a sad thing to leave here with. And the stress of this sudden return is crazy, random services to honor a man in a book, a god being a solution to even the worst of things; the lives lost only a given to these things. I couldn't imagine giving this all up to literally _nothing_ as us being generational from apes easily comes off as so much more sensible than randomly popping up from the sky.

Nancy's "journey with Jesus" was like my brother's journey. Patti's is similar to mine. My brother never really believed and could not wait to get out. As soon as he reached the age of 18, he left the church. I took the faith much more seriously and that was the cause of major crisis involving fear at the age of 13 which did not fully resolve until the age of 20 when I finally began to understand that there was likely no God, and so my faith melted away. As a believer however, I could never quite get into the faith in the way Tim once did. I often tried but things never worked in the manner the fine print, and preaching said they would work.
    As usual a great interview.

We were in the Garner Ted faction, while I hadn't heard about him having sex with 200 women, it was a massage parlor incident that damaged him and the church before his death. It’s so sad isn’t it? But I think somehow some folks seem to need a strong authority figure y to o follow and a worldview that gives them really narrow parameters to live within may be restrictive and unpleasant but may at the same time also provide an emotional security for people who for whatever reason have lacked security. I’m absolutely sure this is why my own parents have remained Evangelicals all their lives despite being well educated in science. It’s certainly irrational but it provides a psychological need

I would like to add that Constantine of the Holy Roman Catholic Church empire was appointed by Pope of Rome to switch Saturday ☀️ Sabbath to false protestant Sunday worship churches and yes his wife grew up 7th day Adventist in which the founder Mrs. Ellen G. Whites husband was a Grand Master Mason, I think 🤔 using critical rational thinking now as I am recovering from religion at this time. And according to their Revelation prophecy and the 7th day Adventist the Roman Catholic Church will force Sunday worship churches again and will go after the Sabbath keepers to force them to worship on Sunday! which will cause them to flee to the mountains and in underground catacombs to flee persecution 😮. And they even have books of sects of people like the Waldensions that fled from the Roman Catholic Church and some were put down. And when you are talking about holiday pagen days instead of keeping the Most High Holy Days that's why we go on this Greek Gregorian calendar 🗓️ instead going on the correct calendar, Hebrew calendar according to them. That's why they according to them will say statements like serving a false gospel, religions, false christs, false belief systems and false man made doctrines and teachings in Sunday worship churches, religions. And also I would like to mention the 7th day Adventist believe the prophesy in revelation the little Horn is America! the last Babylon The Great 😮 that will fall eventually? they could be right I'm not saying they are because I have know verifiable evedence but according to them they do have that evedence. Just my take on these matters, and yes I'm still recovering from religion I would put myself in the category of "theists" and I'm still deconstructing 😊 don't give up folks just remember there are others along this path and we're in this together. Love and light to you beautiful, sexy, gorgeous sisters.💪🌍🤔🦉
