easily the best slayer album, they outdid themselves right off the line, they did have other good material later on here and there but nothing could touch this, one of the best metal albums of all time.
This album is amazing, absolutely no doubts about that! Very evil and menacing to this day, especially considering it's a debut thrash album from 1983. You'd think metal would have gotten progressively heavier over a longer period of time after 1983, but Slayer started out with a seriously heavy and intense vibe. Definitely was a BIG influence on the early death metal scene. The Haunting the Chapel EP and Hell Awaits were also equally great IMO. Reign In Blood is obviously great, but I don't find the entire album to be as good as most people say. The highlight songs are the most amazing songs for me, Angel of Death and Raining Blood obviously. But I liked Piece By Piece for it's savage ferocity and a couple of other songs from side 1 on that album. Every song on that album is good to be honest, but 4 or 5 of them truly stand out for me.
before listening to Hell Awaits I highly recommend listening to the ep slayer released right after show no mercy called Haunting the chapel. it bridges the gap between the difference in the sound and style of show no mercy and hell awaits.
I'm glad I'm not alone in hearing the Maiden sound/riffs there. They were one of their fav bands and that sounds a lot like stuff from the first Iron Maiden album, especially Phantom Of The Opera.
Just stumbled on your page. Please finish the discography. You can't stop at hell awaits. They get so much heavier and insane from reign in blood onward. And much better production
All the early California thrash bands mutually influenced each other.... Exodus, Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth all played shows together, hung out together, and even "shared" band members.
Show No Mercy, Killings My Business & Kill Em All all mentioned as they're monumental first albums. Fistful of Metal not mentioned as it's weak - Anthrax only got semi good with Spreading the Disease. When Among the Living came out, Testament's Legacy was kicking ass and should have been the 4th in the big 4. Love Anthrax but they were the weakest link. Testament, Overkill, Exodus were better contenders for that 80s thrash crown

If only they didn't mess up the drumming in production. I always prefered Live Undead because of the better sound.

Easily the best.

Don't worry ;)
I would recommend anyone to listen to the live undead live album since the production sounds better than show no mercy or hell awaits.

PERFECT THRASH ALBUM!
Yes it is pretty typical nowadays but it was a game changer back in the 80's bro.
SLlllllayyyyer
Great reaction! Hope you keep going through SLAYER’S albums. The next album is a turning point to put it mildly. 🤘🏻👍🏻
Crionics,
Black Magic
and
The Antichrist!!!
The most important thing, of course, is how long.
I call that instrumental section of Crionics the "Iron Maiden part".

metal storm my favorite.
When people ask me what my favorite metal band is i say its slayer, and point them to this album.
Slayer's second best record, first being Hell Awaits. Do a similar full album reaction of Ripping Corpse's Dreaming With The Dead!
Agreed

I remember when this came out…and how it just changed things
Metal storm came out before Creeping death... So the intro of creeping death sounds like Metal storm
Literally facts, just was saying what came to mind ,wasn't insinuating that they stole
