  • Here's a look at the Electra Townie Bicycle. This street bike features a lower seat and higher handlebars that deliver a more ergonomic, semi-recumbent style of bicycle riding. Also shown is the Electra Straight 8 model which is a black eight ball style.

*Works great my **Latest.Bike** I have a bad knee so I still get exercise but the bike assists me. I am a big guy so I didn’t think it would go as fast but it works great.*

I pick mine up tomorrow, and eight years later and this is still the best review I've come across for the Townie. Thanks for sharing

About 11 years after this video was made I bought a Townie 7D to return to riding and absolutely love it. I have since purchased a Trek Verve 2 XL but after riding it for awhile I find myself returning to the Townie, partly because its more comfortable for an old guy, and partly because it's more rugged. I am somewhat heavy and I have had problems with parts on the Trek breaking including the suspension seat post, the seat and spokes on the rear wheel. The latter issue forced me to replace the original rear wheel with a fully loaded touring wheel. The Townie has had only one part brake, the rear axle after riding off a serious drop 2-3 in as I recall, snapped it. I was able to ride home but it took a lot more effort. I have shown a little more care and have had no more issues. I'm really enjoying my Townie.

Nice review. At 51, too, found myself needing a different bike geometry than what my mountain bike has. I found an Electra Townie 3 and it seems to be just the ticket. My arms and back no longer ache and I can actually see the sights, not just the road below me. :)

My wife and I bought a pair for neighborhood cruising, and easily the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden..I'm 6'3 and I have the large frame size option. It's like riding a recliner!

I do not own an Electra Townie, but I test drove one in Florida, and it was extremely comfortable unlike any other bike I have road, and I am an experienced cyclist. I am not ready to give up the road bike yet, but I can see this as a comfortable option as I get older, as it takes pressure off the back, wrists and neck.

I have an Electra Townie, but it is the 7 speed internally geared Nexus rear hub model. I have never owned a derailleur type bike that wasn't always messing up. Also the internally geared hub can be shifter at a stop.

Just put a deposit down on an Electra Townie 7D EQ; the bike should be in the shop in about 6 weeks. I am looking forward to riding it and hope to be able to commute to work on it.

I have an Electra Townie 8i Man's Bicycle with the largest frame I could find. I am 6'6" and 340 plus. This bike has worked out great for me.

Hi Great review. Can you share the wheel size of your bike 24 or 26 inch and the seat height of the bike. I have not been able to find the lowest seat height on any of the company specs. Thanks!

buddy of mine owns a bike shop and I asked about the weight issue, he said they've sold to even heavier and never had an issue... it's not like you're going to be jumping or going off road on it... ended up buying one for my wife last week after several years of her wanting one

These are wonderful bikes. But, many of the videos about Townies are just talking heads. No offense intended guys but I didn't click in to see you or hear your opinions. I have my own I very comfortable with. Want to keep me interested? RIDE THE BIKE. Don't just run your mouth, ride the bike. Thanks.

Anytime you can sit on the seat and have your feet flat on the ground is usually the general rule. 5'9" I would think a 24" if you tried a 26" it might be too much. What ever you feel comfortable with but my opinion, more is not always better, unnecessary added weight for you, especially if you're just 'bromin' the suburbs to stay active. If you're interested in shredding the trails, I would suggest something with a reinforced frame and shocks. Happy riding! 🙂
