It had that latent effect on me where at first I was upset about how the third act went- but the film stayed with me, and I kept ruminating over it. It’s a masterpiece for sure
Kim Hye-ja starred a mother character in single drama series(Rural diary) for 22years(1980-2002) and acted so many mother characters for other series. That’s why she is called ‘National Mother’ in Korea.
'Mother(2009)' is most 'shocking' film of Bong's movies. If you viewed his movies, you can know Bong do not satisfy audience's catharsis as common Hollywood style scenarios. Instead, he develop story by unexpected manner. It is so strange plots first, but soon we get to know his movies are not intuitive as if our 'real lives' do. You can compare Joker(2019) with Mother(2009) about a insanity of murder. In Joker, i feel that film tend to justify joker's doing.(as if that movies says like 'without madness, we can't survive in modern lives.) But Bong's 'Mother' do not takes a side anywhere. He just express what he felt. Absolute justice do not exist in his dictionary.
I cant forget that Kin hye Ja, who is the main actress as a mother in the movie "mother", is dancing at the first scene of the movie. That was aooo creepy y but sad And i could totally understand the feeling after watching the movie... Amazing...
Her acting was great and the music also perfectly fit. And there was director Bong behind the camera dancing together with her. haha Many critics say the scene is one of the best opening scenes of all time. Totally agree with it.
Ode to motherhood and universal all-engrossing the least and at the same time the most corrupted form of love. Truly his magnum opus!!!! Miss my mom!!!!!
If anyone ask me about what is the best of Bong's films, It will be 'Mother' with no doubt. 'Parasite' is also good film but it's not as much as that Absolutely
Maybe it left a bad taste in your mouth, but it's because it did its job so well. I can re-watch Memories of Murder anytime, but I need some emotional prep before I can watch Mother again. 😂
Did the son born Up-normal or is it after she tried to killed him ( both of them) which didn't happened and the kid kinda knew,so she try using needle to let him forget his memory which effect his mental
[SPOILER ALERT] If Kim Hye Ja is considered the "nation's mother", did it traumatise Koreans to see her turned into a twisted, obsessive, murderous figure?
the last scene of Mother when she is dancing on the bus is nothing like i ever seen before , so poetic
It symbolizes that she isn't the only one who would do anything for their children. She is just one of them.
@@MillaCho44 needling her thighs shows she wants to forget the bad memory, then dancing depicts she was trying to show that she was happy.
The irony that the bus trip was called “Thank You Parents”.
I watched 'mother' today. I had the same feeling in the last scene.
So metaphorical.
Bong's hidden masterpiece
I saw this film yesterday and it actually blew my mind man🤯 it was actually perfect in every way
Same here. I just finished watching the movie and now I am here. Masterpiece is an understatement for this one.
It had that latent effect on me where at first I was upset about how the third act went- but the film stayed with me, and I kept ruminating over it. It’s a masterpiece for sure
My favorite Bong Joon Ho movie is Mother!
It’s my second favourite I love it but I prefer Parasite as it is just so clever and meaningful, although Mother has the better plot twist
mother really left a mark in my thoughts. it was dark, unsettling and for some reason it made me feel like i was crazy
my favorite film is memories of murder but the mother is his actual best film!
The thirdman agree!!
you might be onto something with this comment
마더 대사 중에 원빈 대신에 잡혀온 아이에게 "너는 엄마 없니?"라고 오열하던 장면이 제일 오래 기억에 남는다.

I wanted to hear more about Mother from Bong in this interview.
Still my favorite Bong's movie
great questions all the way
Many people laughed watching the dancing scene at the starting, but no single person could laugh after watching the ending of this movie.
One of the most underrated murder mystery out there

Mother is just 👌🏽
his best IMO
holy shit the translator killed it
Not an emotional movie.
But I had tears.
side note, but the interpretor is so pretty
It’s my second favourite I love it but I prefer Parasite as it is just so clever and meaningful, although Mother has the better plot twist
I really hate that Madeo (Mother) movie. Because it made me cry for weeks--it's meaning, the symbols, the character, gosh--it here goes again my tears
did anyone notice the maid from parasite was in the movie mother? I noticed her right away.
Who was she?
@@SG91218 she played as one of Ah Jung's relatives in the memorial day of Ah jung's funeral. The one that yelled and screamed at Do Joon's mother
@@fadhilamad thank you!
Bong often employs the same actors in his film. She also had a small part in Okja. Also shows that the actors enjoy working with him time and again.
My least favorite of his but the one I actually think about the most. Does that make sense?
Totally

I like memory of murder better but mother I'll def be rewatching and I can't stop thinking about it
The Engineer memory of murder > mother

Did anybody notice the rat running across the screen at @0:22?
bruh that was the top of someone’s head
[SPOILER ALERT] If Kim Hye Ja is considered the "nation's mother", did it traumatise Koreans to see her turned into a twisted, obsessive, murderous figure?
Not really. She still remains as nation's mother icon. The film just further proved her amazing acting abilities
ok, so who killed the girl? the crazy jp guy or her son?
her son
@Dashrath Bhargav EXPLAIN please?
