    Unnecessary and greedy. There's no reason to catch and keep that many fish. Shame on you.

      I'll let the study speak for itself.
      Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on Walleye in Lake Roosevelt in a 2016 study:
      "These populations are robust and contain plenty of harvestable fish. We continue to encourage anglers to harvest their limit of walleye when they have the opportunity. Too many walleye in a population can have a negative impact on the rest of the fish community, which will in turn negatively impact the walleye populations as forage is reduced. Routine monitoring of these fisheries, through the use of FWIN as well as creel surveys, will ensure that we are not negatively impacting walleye populations and that we are maintaining balance in these fish communities."
      "Our data on walleye populations over the past 12 years indicate that these populations can sustain more harvest and indeed need more harvest."
      "In 2006, the WDFW raised the daily limit to 8 walleye per day on Lake Roosevelt, Potholes Reservoir, and Moses Lake. Unfortunately, few anglers took advantage of this as the results from our two-year creel survey on Potholes Reservoir and Moses Lake indicated low overall walleye harvest. Creel surveys on FDR [Lake Roosevelt] indicated that walleye harvest was approximately 50,000 walleye annually, which was 1/3 of the management goal. In 2013, WDFW raised the walleye daily limit to 16 fish and removed size restrictions."
      "These regulations were liberalized in order to accomplish two primary management goals: improve walleye growth and condition and bring about a balance in the predator/prey fish community. We are relying on anglers to help us achieve these management goals. We encourage anglers to help shape our walleye populations to a more healthy condition by harvesting more fish."

      I agree..definitely no need to keep that many, just fish for the enjoyment of it man. If the limit was 100 you would keep 100? Common now.

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      @@ericmutch4557 No, I wouldn't keep 100 fish if that was the limit. And I do enjoy fishing but why can't I keep my limit once in a while? I kept my 16; had 8 people total in the house; 2 fish per person. If this was a crappie fishing trip, I would've released all but one just to do a catch and cook video. The reason I would do so with crappie is because I have lots of access to crappie fishing throughout the year. Walleye on the other hand is very new to me and family as we never had the opportunities, or at the least the correct equipment, to catch walleye. Therefore, my goal was to bring some walleye back to the family to try out and feed them for a meal since most of them have never even tasted walleye. This is why I retained my limit on this particular trip. I also take into consideration the research of the body of water as well, in which I have stated previously on this thread of comments. Any more concerns you'd like me to address?

    Another great vid Samong.
    The lady at the ramp reminds me of an old man that used to live in a tiny cinder block shack by the river here. One time he was looking in my boat as I was backing my truck up. " Nice bunch of cats you got there". So I gave him a few.
    After that, everytime he'd see my truck roll by, he'd be at the ramp a few hours later. Perch, cats, stripers. Always gave him a couple when I saw him.
    After a few years, he stopped showing up. One day leaving, saw him sitting in front of his house. He waved, so I pulled over, and grabbed a few fish. He looked terrible, gaunt and looked like he was rotting away. But a big smile and a bigger Thank You!
    I'd always stop and give him some fish if I saw him.
    Following year, tiny house was empty.
    Been probably 15-20 years now, but I still think of him everytime I drive by it.
    Anyway, thought that was really nice of you and Andrew, and it brought back an old memory for me.

    I ran across your videos today for the first time. I enjoyed them and have subscribed. The first video I watched was about catching burbot in the lake with Andrew. The thing that really caught my attention was when you were unloading your car at the ramp. There were empty water bottles and stuff in the front seat. THANK YOU! You hadn't chucked the stuff out of your window while driving or in the ramp parking lot. That said more to me about you being an outdoorsman than how many fish you caught. Watching the fishing was enjoyable, too.

    Walleye are very mild flavored fish. Great any way. We harvest them a little bigger on lake Erie so I like to use the pectoral fins as well. They call them fish wings. The meat is a little more flavorful. Look it up and give it a try. Backbones make excellent stock as well. Such a good tasting fish. Keep up the good work.

    Can't imagine Walleye being invasive but if they are keep all you can. However, as a Minnesota boy, you do not overpower that delicate fish with cajun spice - salt, pepper, sauteed in butter or breaded with flour and cornmeal and fried in lard. You are right the best fish of all.

    fish fry , we would take the filets and cut thin angle slices from head to tail not more than 1/2 inch the thinner the better . fresh ranch dressing , malt vinager and jalapeno tobasco were the 3 things we would dip the battered slices into . we cooked the pieces well golden crispy is best for fish fry you might think they are over cooked but dont worry the malt V dip first then ranch then jajapeno is just mouth watering when you try them . i myself just mixed all 3 togather to save the time lol its that good ;) and yes the cheeks when the fish are larger they will give you a chunk of delicious meat like a scallop ;) hope you try eye fishing again its very easy to get hooked on ;)

    In West Virginia the limit is Two. One can be over 30", the other has to be under 20"....very difficult to get, but damn it was nice catching 7,8,10, and 12 pounder in one evening. Average size people catch is seven pounds! Not many little ones at all, in fact all my Walleyes this whole year were on musky lures, none under 7". My biggest ever was here 15 pounds and over 33"

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that sounds like a well-managed lake. We have an abundance of walleye here in which majority of them are small because there's too much competition on the same food sources. There's certainly big ones here, but they're much harder to come by. It goes back to the idea of having 1 antelope feeding 10 skinny lions, or having 10 antelope feeding 1 fat lion. Would love to catch 7+ pounders on average. As for Lake Roosevelt, I'm not sure when I'll get to do that!

    Not sure if you have northern pike in your lakes, but if you fillet around the bones (many how to vids to clean pike) go catch, clean and cook a few and let me know. You'll be thanking me later.

    I love the boat! I'm a huge fan of fishing from anything that floats. If I had to fish from a piece of Styrofoam (not a comparison just an example) I most definitely would. My favorite is kayak fishing and if its all I got I will take it anywhere.

      Similar, but I really prefer the texture and overall taste of walleye meat over crappie.

    what are the regs there ? i grew up on a lake where eyes had to be 18 inch and you only were alloud to keep 3 per day 1 can be over 21

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      16 per person, no daily limit. Walleye were illegally introduced here, so the increased limit is to limit walleye predation on native fish populations. There's an ongoing conversation of switching the walleye regs to: no daily limit and no size restrictions. There's a lot of walleye in Lake Roosevelt in which, it may be too much.

      ok i check website washington regs seems like most waters are 15 limit with no size regs . not sure if that res produces larger fish on a regular basis . our lake in colorado at the time was a egg producing lake which game n fish would milk eyes every year , i helped a few years which was very fun and great way to see the breeding stock in the lake. and the size of fish we normally caught were 16-17 inchers alot then 18-19 inchers were there in full force if you found the sweet spot just outside of the smaller ones then 21-30+ were for the guys who really know and understood the topography of the lake and habits of eyes . i will say with the regulations so tough on our lake made it an awesome fishery , 3 fish even at 18 inches gave enough meat for some tasty fish fries ;)

      @@SamongOutdoors oh man that would be great to fish then lol , i can see them wanting them gone with them hammering the native fish . we had that kind of bounty on pike on a few lakes n water ways , which was basicly dont release them if caught and catch all you want . i was mainly trout fisherman i spent most my time flyfishing in the rockies on the south platte river . got turnes onto eyes in about 2000-2003 where i focused my time to hammering . i wound up buying a 14ft valco with a 9.9 hp outboard and a troll mtr in front with my depth finder . our lakes we generally fished shallow 12-15ft in spring-summer on sunken roads or river beds were main targets . we had the maps of our lake since it was made back in mid 70s by the corps engineers , nice to have maps of roads n gravel pits .. anything that stuck out main river n lil creeks are hot spots . i live in wyoming now and get eyes n sauger in the river just not in abundance might get 2-3 a day if lucky . anyways keep hammering them i know about fish that are introduced illigally and its nice to have a high bounty on them lol

      i was hooked bad when i got the boat i bought 4 rods for bottom bouncing wich were bait casters , 4 rods for spooning or jigging open face reels . i had 2 rod holders in back and 2 in front , i made sure when i had the wife or anyone that wanted to go out fishing with me they had full setup for what we chose to do lol was a good thought but im a fisherman i go overboard when i get hooked on anything . catfihing here is main target i live on the bighorn river too far from any res so trout are out and cats well ave 6-15 lbs are targeted i bought 2 10ft rods 1-8ft (only 1 left ) and 2 7ft all king kat and bough 5 open faced big spin reels which i put 20lb line on all since the channels are not massive rare to catch a 30+ here . now with over 50 rod n reel sets lol i should open a fishing camp lol oh well you can never have too much ;) maybe ill try to get up there some day and harvest a ton of eyes
