Had a really shitty day and I feel my mental health getting worse. Your videos the last few weeks honestly keep me going and distract me from negative thoughts 💓 Thank you so much fern!
Love the consistent honesty on your channel about plant care. It’s all a learning process and lots of trial and error for every plants sweet spot. In my cabinet I used the screws that came with the skadis peg board and they fit perfectly into the cabinet, I did put some thick washers between the glass and peg board to give it that gap to mount accessories on the peg board. Also those lights can connect to each other like a daisy chain, by connecting them to each other the plug reaches all the way down through the hole and out onto my smart ports with extra length left.
I did not know they could daisy chain! That is awesome news, I was wondering how everyone got the cord to reach down hahah. And thanks so much for your kind words :)
Inconsistent watering can cause calathea's to get crispy edges. From my experience, they get crispy if I let them get too dry before watering. They are such Diva's :P
@@wildfern I think I am going to invest in getting self-watering planters for my more fussy calatheas: Vittata, White Fusion, and Orbifolia. Luckily, my Lancifolia and Makoyana are a bit more tolerant.

It could be too high humidity. It seems as though You are getting Fungus or leaf rot on them. When Babies Ave Young They Need High Humdity but after the initial growth period I would suggest 75-80, and then absolute Chill at 50-60. Too much of ANYTHING isn’t good. Also the use of Tap water could be a problem? Filtered, Distilled or Rainwater are preferred simply because of the lack of Chemicals. I personally don’t have a humidifier but I do mist My Babies every other day, or at least in the Morning. Nice setup though. What’s so interesting about bringing Outside Inside, is that You are learning to be Mother Nature!! What You don’t provide for Your Children, They’ll NEVER get it elsewhere. And the fact that Your Plant pushes out new leaves is it’s reaction to stress. Look what You’re doing and step by step make small adjustments and You’ll find the answers. Things will be fine. Just keep Communicating with Your Babies, and They’ll Tell You What They Need. ✌🏿
I totally agree with how you explain why it is worth the money... First of all, It's your hobby, It's decor, It's soft lighting for the room, it is something that brings you happiness and gives you peace it gives you something to do that is wholesome and legal (lol) at this point you have only 1 mouth to feed. Yours! In my house whenever the subject of money towards my plant collection comes up, It never really escalates because it is my hobby. Lots of people have hobbies and some are way more expensive than plants, yes, some are less but my family knows how important it is to me. It makes me happy. And everyone can get behind that! lol. I have been trying my heart out to get that cabinet. I bought the small one because the tall one like you have are always sold out. I can't seem to find an opening to buy one. It has been very frustrating. I even drove to another state and had no luck! Someday I'll get it. 🤞🤞anyway, thanks so much for another great video Fern, as always, I loved it! Be well little sis! xoxo
Yeah the double sided tape is definitely a no go. There are screws that you can get and magnet hooks that work REALLY well. You get the disks and you can place it on top of the glass and it will work well! Definitely give the magnets a try if it’s something you want!
I bought a 3” cebu blue from Steve’s leaves and it moved up to a 5” pot within like 8 weeks cuz its roots wanted to climb out of the pot 😂 such a rewarding plant 😊
I have magnets..crazy glue them to lights..then magnets on top of glass..pots hide them ..and it works great..Canada Tire has heavy duty rectangle ones.
If you paint the pegboard white it will be more reflective and last longer in the humidity. Use a good primer first. And plain old super glue will stick to glass very well.
so happy you're publishing this video! I have bought this cabinet in Jan. and it is the best thing ever ! I just bought a monstera (first one!), and some hoya, and calathéa, I hope they'll be doing well!
I use Velcro tape (10lb) for my lights and it’s done really well! But also I switched my shelf to wire shelving bc the humidity circulates a little better. But should def try Velcro tape!
some type of silicone, an aquarium grade one is plant friendly. glue the lights to the glass or glue magnets to the light and put some magnets on the top side of the shelf.
Girly try flushing out your calatheas with distilled water or filtered water. Basically what has happened is there is salt or chlorine build up in the soil from normal tap water. I had the same issues with both of my calatheas and it helped a lot doing that. They should bounce back. Make sure to ONLY use filtered water on this species because they are super duper dramatic.🤞Best of luck!
I have the same fiet lights and they plug into one another in a chain so you can plug the top one into the lower one and just run that plug out the bottom
Hey Fern!! I have the same grow lights as you 😊 I also couldn’t get anything to stick to the cabinet at all! I got magnet hooks that attach to the plastic of the grow light, and then also bought heavy duty magnets for on top of the glass. Good luck with your move!! I’ve been so excited for this video ☺️☺️☺️
Love your cabinet and love your videos. Two tips for your Milsbo. I pretty much have the same setup. I used that same clear weatherstrip just on the left door in the middle, top to bottom. The left and right sides of the doors and across the top I bought some window weatherstripping. It’s like a sponge or rubber strip with a sticky tap side. It works great. I’m sure Amazon has something similar. I got mine from Home Depot. I have the same lights as you do. You mentioned command strips are not working. Command strips makes a Velcro strip also. I am using two Velcro strips on each end for both lights, top and middle shelf and have not had any issues. My cabinet is almost two months running now.
Oh those are such great tips, thank you! I think I know the type of weatherstripping you're talking about, and yes that sounds like it would work a lot better. I'm going to take a look for it.
I'm so afraid to try calatheas even though I live (and vlog) in the Caribbean and don't have a humidity issue. Too many ppl have issues with them. I'm scared lol

I moved my Frydek to leca and she is THRIVING. Still kills off a leaf for every new leaf (sometimes kills two leaf if the new one is really big) but I’m getting bigger and better leaves every time. Maybe once every two weeks a new leaf comes. I highly recommend LECA for any alocassia. They seem to love it.
Not sure it’s the same for your calatheas, but when I took mine out of the direct light of my grow lights they didn’t seem to crisp up as much! Worth a try if they continue to be divas.. mine are in indirect light now and seem to be happier.
Magnetic hooks work like a charm for me! I use them to hang the lights and tiny macrames to use up more space :) My fabrikör is definitely not quite as fancy, no weather stripping, no accessories, but I still love the way it looks! Yours is beautiful as well :)
If you water the calathea before they get past 60% ish dry, they won't get crispy leaves. I love them too and have learned through experience that crispy leaf edges are prevented by consistent watering, using distilled, and high humidity.
I had the same problem with the lights falling from the glass. I found one of the lights crushing my Florida ghost baby and scorching my M. Peru! I ended up using string and suction cups and so far so good 👌🏻
I had the same problem with the top grow light not going through the hole I drilled down the cabinet, but I noticed you can plug the top one to the bottom one and the bottom one in the power bar. 😊

Hi! Okay so you should definitely give all your calatheas distilled water!!! The minerals in tap water are what cause the browning edges on calatheas...
Thanks for your video. Beautiful plants and love the update. Regarding your Calathea White Star and Calathea Orbifolia, both of them need distilled water. They love humidity which your cabinet provides but they seem to be more of understory plants so maybe the lights are too bright for them. The crisp edges on the Orbifolia could be from not having distilled water and too bright of a light.
does anyone know if you can put other plants like zebra, spider, boston fern plant etc? I see a lot of monstera in everyone's ikea cabinet but I want different kind of plants. Just curious if those work
If you want your lights to stick to the glass use Epoxy Glue. That is what i did in my cabinet and it has been great. It takes 2h for the glue to set, but after that it will stay forever 😎👍.
Glad your monstera peru is coming back to life! Can plants live permanently in damp sphagnum moss? I have a few struggling plants that Ive been considering having them live in moss full time. Im not sure if there are negative long term effects.
I blast my wet sticks/nodes for 16-18 hours per day in light (in a regular prop box)... I always see people use those plastic containers that attach to the peg board in their Ikea cabinets, but how do they get light if they are covered with the lid?
You can try beneficial mites; specifically, Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis miles). They live in the top 1/2 layer of the soil and will eat fungus gnat pupae, soil-inhabiting insects, mites, springtails, and various thrips. The nice thing about them is that you only have to apply them once, sort of like an inoculation. As long as you don't change the soil, you are set. I just recently ordered some and my fungus gnats are virtually gone.
Thank you for that video fern! Really informative for us who are about to start with the cabinet now. If you don't mind me asking, how many hours do you keep the lights and the fan on per day?
I’m obsessed with ferns but can only keep one kind alive in our 112 year old, very dry home but my heart wants them ALL 😩 so I’m trying to get my hands on a Milsba to mod into a greenhouse…has anyone had success growing ferns in these cabinets??
How exciting your Peru is growing back 😃 Just FYI, I don’t keep my calathea wet all the time. I let them almost totally dry out an then water. I use super thrive in Xero filtered water. I just repotted it into a 6 in. Love your cabinet set up. 😃
I have seen regular jade pothos look a bit like cebu blue, if they have more narrow leaves. They really do look a lot different though, the cebu blue is quite silver and more long/narrow. If you're able to send me a picture on instagram maybe I can help you identify it.
How did you get rid of the soil mites? I had an invasion and had to reroot my hoyas to get finally rid of them :( And beautiful cabinet! It wasn't boring or something like that at all :)
@@wildfern I've also tried Neem, but they didn't care... They were running all over the shelf, the wall and yeah... The shelf is next to my bed 😅😅 But every little Hoya survived 🙈 Thanks for your answer! ☺️
try Command Strips that say "Bath" on the box. They are meant for hanging pictures in bathrooms where steam from the shower makes the room humid.

I blast my wet sticks/nodes for 16-18 hours per day in light (in a regular prop box)... I always see people use those plastic containers that attach to the peg board in their Ikea cabinets, but how do they get light if they are covered with the lid?
This was really in depth, thank you! Definitely thinking about picking one up 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
I love how your cabinet looks 🖤
I'm dealing with soil mites too, hopefully mine will take a hike real soon lol
You can try beneficial mites; specifically, Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis miles). They live in the top 1/2 layer of the soil and will eat fungus gnat pupae, soil-inhabiting insects, mites, springtails, and various thrips. The nice thing about them is that you only have to apply them once, sort of like an inoculation. As long as you don't change the soil, you are set. I just recently ordered some and my fungus gnats are virtually gone.
How do you keep it warm in there? Do you need to?
how do you keep the humidity high in your cabinet without a humidifier?
could you make a video in which you show which types of soils you use, fertilizer, how you replant (some use soil and you use some bubble?? a guess ^^
Yep! I recently uploaded a video all about fertilizer on my channel, and a soil one is coming ☺️
@@wildfern wonderful! Thank you!!
Thank you for that video fern! Really informative for us who are about to start with the cabinet now. If you don't mind me asking, how many hours do you keep the lights and the fan on per day?
Thank you! I run the lights for around 10 hours and the fans stay on at all times :)
Love love love you’re plants 😍🪴💚
Thank you!!
I’m obsessed with ferns but can only keep one kind alive in our 112 year old, very dry home but my heart wants them ALL 😩 so I’m trying to get my hands on a Milsba to mod into a greenhouse…has anyone had success growing ferns in these cabinets??
I feel they'd love the cabinet life!
How did u attach the skådis pegboard to the glass wall? Trying to figure sth out :(
It's drilled through the metal piece down the middle
I ordered a triangularis oxalis online. It arrived yesterday but the plant is nearly dead. Can you suggest me Fern how to bring it back to life??
Oh I'm not sure, I haven't had one of those before :( good luck to you!
I love your advice and you are adorable
How exciting your Peru is growing back 😃 Just FYI, I don’t keep my calathea wet all the time. I let them almost totally dry out an then water. I use super thrive in Xero filtered water. I just repotted it into a 6 in. Love your cabinet set up. 😃
I found a pothos that has the texture and color of a Cebu Blue but leaf shape is more of the standard pothos, what do you think it is?
I have seen regular jade pothos look a bit like cebu blue, if they have more narrow leaves. They really do look a lot different though, the cebu blue is quite silver and more long/narrow. If you're able to send me a picture on instagram maybe I can help you identify it.
@@wildfern I will do that, thank you very much!
I have soil mites in my cabinet too. They must like the humidity. I don’t have them (visibly) on any of the other plants in my house.
I have had two calathea orbafolia & they both turned into a brown crispy disaster 😂
Wahhhhh. So annoying!
I love your content😍
Thank you!!
Yes, distilled for all Calathea, Alocasia, most Begonia’s, Prayer plants, Ctenanthea (I think I spelt that wrong.).
How did you get rid of the soil mites? I had an invasion and had to reroot my hoyas to get finally rid of them :(
And beautiful cabinet! It wasn't boring or something like that at all :)
Oh noooo. I'm not sure. I did treat with neem oil, so perhaps that helped. They gradually diminished over about a few weeks.
@@wildfern I've also tried Neem, but they didn't care... They were running all over the shelf, the wall and yeah... The shelf is next to my bed 😅😅 But every little Hoya survived 🙈
Thanks for your answer! ☺️
Mosquito bits in soil or soak in jug of water, and water with it! Get them at hardware stores, or Amazon❤🌱❤🍃🤗
@@cindyvan635 Thank you, but I'm from Germany and the mosquito bits are not allowed here :(
and then she moved and had to take the shelves out and re do the whole thing yayyyy
I LOVE YOUR VIDEO!!
Let us all pray for that monstera Peru!
Please do!
how often do you have to run the humidifier?
I don't use a humidifier in the cabinet :) the humidity stays up just from the weather stripping!
What happened to your melano!?
