We took this video to show you how to remove and replace a Fan Clutch on Mercedes W163 Generation. This will include the gas and diesel engines that are equipped with the fan clutch.
It is a common problem on this vehicles. When the fan clutch malfunctions it is either stuck on or it never activates the fan. If it is on even when your Mercedes is called, your engine will sound like a Jet Airplane under the hood because the fan will be moving. If it is not working than you are risking to overheat your car which could result in new engine if not stopped on time.

Yes this right here just made me feel awesome being told mine is probably needed to be replaced! At how easy it is to do! Outside of “the special tool” imma have to buy (and the 36 mm combo) but aside from changing the clutch it’s self on the fan after it’s removed which you got all the space in the world after that not being inside the car anymore! this is awesome!!! The one I just did Min's ago would not come off with about 25 Hard Blows with a Good Clutch Fan Removal took super heavy Duty One > / I made a Small wood Block about 1.5 Inches long cut at a 45% Angle to tuck under the Fan Belt that did not do it
But perhaps helped ? Still no Go ? So I applied Heat with a Propane Torch about 20 Seconds in 3 spots turning about 1/3 rd each heating > 3 or 4 More Hard Blows and off it came / HEAT DID THE TRICK ! > Upon inspection I could see the bearings Balls on one side and the whole Shaft had moved over from the hammering > Reason for Change was Clutch was frozen so always turned and it wobbled also when running > Was a Saks OEM Unit Mercedes 2002 320 ML

Hi could you please tell how I can do it now because I did took already the little bots 10mm around the fan clutch the nut spend but it does come off what I can do now

My fan clutch is roughly 7 1/4 inch in diameter the new one from autozone and üroparts is 7 inches the fins around the clutch won't touch the plastic retainers around de plastic fan housing should I change it or do you know the right part number and shop to get the right one?
My pully is missing all the bolts so I can’t get the fan off because of spinning. Any suggestions

I have a 2003 ml350. My fan clutch nut is not 36mm. Is this normal? It is smaller.

what can i do? the whole assembly moves when i try to unscrew the fan clutch, what is the special tool called?
You need to leave the belt on > and if no go apply Heat I use propane in 3 places about 20 sec each third
I have the tools, but it won't budge, and to boot the nut is rounding. Now what? This job sucks... lol
