You should compare Luminar Neo with Topaz, good video. One thing I don't like about NEO is how slow it is. I don't think I could edit a whole project in the software without losing my mind and it force closing 6 times.

I used to be excited about Luminar Neo but, in reality, I don't love it or use it very often. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Evoto AI which I've been using a lot lately for portrait retouching. It handles skin way better than other software I've used and the double chin and shine reduction tools are amazing! It also does an impressive job of instantly cleaning up seamless backdrops that get dirty from shoes. It's also fast! The only thing I don't love is that it uses credits instead of a subscription. Still, I think it's good enough that I've been biting the bullet.

I love the supersharp feature, it does not really take that long and the result is so worth it

It does great job for portrait retouching, below average on masking, okay or better for landscape. Works fine on M1P although nothing can touch Pixelmator Pro speed

I bought a license because of sky replacement and it stayed the only tool I use it for. Too heavy/slow for me as a Windows user. On my PC it uses almost the same resources as if I have Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge running at the same time.

Luminar Neo definitely is a piece of software that floats like a lead balloon.

I've bought two different versions of Luminar over the years. I always found it to be very gimmicky and never really gave me the results that I was looking for (Although the eye color replacement is really cool). But, I welcome the competition that it gives to Adobe and some of Luminar's features have made there way over to Lightroom/Photoshop.

Looks nice for those who don't know how to do those things in Photoshop. But the results are impressive to have been done automatically.

The extensions can be worth it, but I think if you look strictly on a cost standpoint, the fact that some of these plug-ins are "extras" you pay for sort of defeats the overall appeal of Luminar... a lot of people bought the program because they didn't want a subscription, but even Skylum is departing that model and going for "paid" extras and subscriptions, only that some of these plug-ins are paid extras usually subscription, that other programs like Adobe, including as part of your existing subscription, for no extra cost. So the Neo extensions can be useful if you use them, but if you only occassionaly use them, like HDR merge or GenFill, then maybe not, especially since some appear to only be available through a subscription.

Luminar is a great tool to have in the arsenal if it's in your budget. Doesnt replace Adobe, in my opinion, but has its use cases. Social media photos is a prime example. Quick workflow to get a solid image posted is very compelling. Some smaller prints or shared images with family, same deal. For high quality edits, maybe a starting point, the power line removal tool, for instance is fantastic, but won't replace the human touch. That said, think the edit panel for traditional edits is not as strong as Lightroom/PS (granted I have long time user bias).
People harsh on Luminar are being a bit short sighted. It's another tool you can choose to use. We dont need another program that can do exactly what Adobe offers. This offers some different options. Don't need them? Move along. No one is trying to take your religion... The Photography community on YT isn't happy until they tear down anything that doesn't support their confirmation bias... Maybe thats just YT in general 🤣

Personally, it is the editing software I use as someone who does photography for fun and my personal travel. I like that it is user friendly and has many tools one would want. I can't justify the subscription cost of Adobe for the hobby, so I bought Luminar 3 and 4 via Humble Bundles, and ended up buying Neo for $34 on preorder since I found a glitch where a coupon worked when it shouldn't have. I also bought AI because of Sky replacement back when it was new. I honestly spent probably about as much as 1 year's Adobe subscription on Luminar products, but they got me into editing for fun and I got the latest tools over the past 4+ years. I really like Adobe Lightroom, and wish they offered a standalone license again, but I'll deal with other software for the cost.
I think Neo is awesome due to the App and software connecting so one can quickly share edited photos, as only ACDSee reminds me of this feature without a subscription. ACDSee does do it better, but I like Luminar for how fun and easy it is to use.

I personally think Luminar Neo is a little bit underwhelming. It can do a lot of things but in my opinion nothing really good. For high end people retouching I started using Retouch4me and it integrates well into my Photoshop workflow. Of course it cannot do other stuff like Neo but most of the features did not really amaze me. Adobe is catching up also in the past few months.

After owning Luminar-Neo since it's first release, I have never been more disappointed in a photo editing package, I had high hopes of using Neo as a replacement for Adobe Photoshop, when in fact it convinced me that I should not give up Photoshop. One of my biggest disappointments in Neo is "Background Removal" it's pitiful and a disappointing process, even the new Microsoft Photo Editor inside of Windows 11 does a much (100%) job at removing a background than Neo. Neo does have it's good points. It's my belief that they left important parts out of Neo, so they could come back and sell those parts or improvements as extensions or plug-ins. Can't fault a company for wanting to better their bottom line, I do however fault them for releasing a shotty product only to try and get you (the customer) to spend even more money on something that should have been included in the software from the beginning. For me, I'm done with Luminar Neo and whatever else version they decide to release.

LoL. the cartoon version of your son. but if you're just taking photos with models, where the exact face is not required, it could pass as workable.

I thought ur son looked just as cute, way from creepy - i though the after effect was awesome.
Maybe more prudent to leave family pics out of critiquing without emotive bias.
