I agree that power creep is a normal part of gacha, but I honestly like how SoC has handled powercreep so far. Almost every unit has a unique niche that doesn't get powercrept even though the overall role compression and kit complexity gets powercrept. That lets even lower tier units keep their niche(Alexei, Xavier) where they can sometimes outperform top tier units. It also allows for units who were released early on in 1.0/2.0 to remain top/high tier/relevant because they are so strong in the niche they fill(Cocoa, Saff, Gloria, Auguste, Edda, Inanna). There are very few units whose entire niche/kit has been completely powercrept(RIP Maitha). The fact that the 1.0 units have a legitimate argument as the strongest generation of units even by 4.0 is very telling of how tame the powercreep has been. It's honestly been a pretty graceful form of gacha powercreep imo and is super refreshing having played and experienced how disgusting the powercreep can get in games like FEH or Octopath CotC.
On the other hand, the game has only been around for roughly 1.5 years and opportunity cost is a huge thing in this game. The difference between raising Safiyyah when she debuted and raising her in current TW/CN is massive, and if at anything I think people don't talk enough about how a character gets left in the dust because of a change in the way the game works rather than powercreeping with a better character.
It's just a normal part of gacha. As a F2P, I don't mind it since the sunk cost feeling isn't there. When the next powercreep meta unit comes, I just say yay and pull 1 copy, and save the rest to ensure I can always pull 1 copy of whatever I want.
I think youre embellishing a bit. Powercreep is obviously a thing, like any gacha. But also like in any gacha, its overblown in a sense. Its not as dire straights as youre making it out to be. And some of these units arent as "unusable" as youre claiming. Especially if someone is a PVE focused player. PVP might have some more truth to it, but thats a given.
It's OK, if we save enough resources for the meta characters and getting at least 1 meta every few months or so can carry us in the game , the only problems are the whales 🐋 , no f2p in any games can handle a whales and that's OK too because they're deserved after all they are the one that keep the games alive 😂 , just sit and enjoy the new content and be proud if you ever beat a whale because you've done the impossible
You realize Nonowill's Vulnerable III is an instant, right? I'm not saying she's as good as Taair, but her application of the Vulnerable debuff is objectively better. Honestly, I don't think the difference between the top tiers and tier 1 is all that much when it comes to clearing the content we currently have. We don't even have Tower of Adversity in global and some units are designed more as PvP units than PvE units. I don't think we should be bound to tier lists as the be all, end all. Just pull for who you like at the end of the day imo 😂
The mechanical problem with this game is that newer characters tend to get more and more actions, which translates to better action economy over time versus old characters and that matters because the new content isn't easy either. You don't need to pull for every meta character and tier lists can be poorly done (See Lao Li's list that overrates Saffiyah Alter based on her aura as an example, she's amazing but not for that reason) but anyone trying to argue that you can just use whoever is engaging in pure cope. ...also, you ARE aware that we're getting the revamped TOA at some point right?
@Altaaira Any particular reason you sound like you're picking a fight? I'm not attacking anyone here. This game isn't so difficult or so complex that you can't use whatever units you want and still be effective with them. I was pointing out that it is silly to be worrying so much about meta when you can still be effective and do well in many modes with many different units even if some are better and have more options than others. I just think it's kind of wrong to think that because a unit like Col gets powercrept, you somehow wasted your time if you invested in getting her to 5 stars. I think that's the wrong mentality to have.
@@kcsupersonic1 Just ignore him. He always like this. In my opinion, we still don't use full potential of each characters. For example, people ignore the guard of Innana who can tank as well as reduce speed of enemies. Yup, just few people notice he can reduce speed of opponent which lead you huge opportunities. Nonowill's Vulnerable III is very skill. We can see Exemplar create huge damage chain from this plus she can be core of infectious team make she is even more shining. I though Altaaira is guy following mecha and use less strategy compare other players.
@@kcsupersonic1 Because it is. Let's take the new TOA as an example, a specific character isn't mandatory to clear level 7 but you need enough damage resistance if you don't want to be wiped by the boss and you also need to deal damage to it fairly quickly to avoid being wiped later. Saying that you can 'use whoever' is as misleading as just sticking to tier lists because you ideally want to understand what a character brings to your overall roster and what they require to shine (For example, Luvita is much better with NRG support and even a T0 character like Kvare becomes better with more DoT based characters). As for this: 'I just think it's kind of wrong to think that because a unit like Col gets powercrept, you somehow wasted your time if you invested in getting her to 5 stars' Sorry to be blunt but Col is one of the best examples of an actual powercrept gacha character in this game and she's also the perfect example of why you should check what is she good for before committing towards investing in her (Unless you like her). In the end, pulling only for meta is problematic because mechanics can shift the meta overnight but pulling/sharding for whoever you like is equally terrible because you can't account for whether a player will end up with a horribly lop-sided roster and just screw themselves out of doing content. Knowledge is power, use it wisely.
There’s only been a bit of power creep with the release units. You can see from your own chart there are 3 1.0 units, 3 2.0 units and 3 3.0 units in T0. But even then units still have a niche, I find myself bringing lillywill a lot when there is an elite destroyer that needs nuked from range, also to dodge tank. Col is still super useful on maps with difficult terrain and a few elite breakers, much better than SP Rawiyah at single target, especially with Homas support. Alexi is super useful on VOD 5-7 if you get Agata with a bad mutation. Speaking of VOD Hasna, beryl 5* and particularly Saff are tier -1 using the left path, but in this new rank challenge Saff is tier 4 since the boss is immune to all percentage damage. Dough has got top 10 in the rank challenge with a Magnus lol. My thoughts might change once TOA is out but for now I don’t see it as a problem at all, useful characters change all the time with content, and 95% is easy enough to clear with your favourites anyhow
The only game that has handled it properly in my view is Fate Grand Order. Centered around using supports and their supported card type and they upgrade units (one of the story locked 4 stars, Saber Alter gets a crazy buff that makes her one of the best loopers in the 8th anniversary and she is a launch unit). It seems Reverse 1999 is also starting to update old units, plus their board system let's you customize their stat lines.
Agreed, FGO is unironically one of the best examples where only the supports are key and so many sidegrades are available that you can mostly pick your favorite farmer/high difficulty/soloist character and roll with it. I said this in another comment but while SOC doesn't typically powercreep a character directly, it does penalize some characters by changing mechanics or increasing distance between enemies (So you require more mobility) and your roster should be planned around being well-rounded.
@@Altaaira Why does Hawky hype up Tristan so much? Everywhere ive seen, has Tristan rated as like an average unit. Not shit, but not tier 0. But this dude marked her as "priority", on his little f2p recommendation chart lol
@@zap7737Tristan was a top priority in old ToA. She is still very viable, but in current new ToA, she is benched because the bosses fights takes like 15 turns. Tristan is on a rough spot right now, we need to see how CN/TW meta evolves there to decide it's worth summoning or not.
Yeah i know you you mean. Its just gacha games in general, though. Makes you long for the good old days of just buying the game and playing it. Recently, i played metaphor and that was a great change of pace.
But if it’s about fun, First few days of Clash after season reset still fun to use Col and solo the low level opponents 👻. Definitely PVP with Bans makes it more important to have more good units. For me Tair is fun but also figure he’s mostly Ban bait.
It's not like anyone would be happy if they released a bunch of garbage units with the next patch. That aside, it isn't even like the new patches have a much higher rate of useful units than the past ones do, when looking at your very own tier list. Every patch except for launch and 1.0 had 3 Tier 0 units (and that's only because I count Gloria as launch unlike you), and all except 3.5 had at least one T2 unit too. The fact that a good chunk of launch and early patch units are still quite good or some of the best in the game is a pretty good sign, actually. If anything, it's not just that there's new and strong units, it's that the content is constantly in flux and what's good yesterday might suddenly not perform great tomorrow (like Tristan falling off now because of TOA no longer being the same).
Yeah, I would say that the safest picks are characters who are both versatile and fairly powerful. As an example, Lutfi has been hit hard by life loss restrictions in the latest content but he's one of the most common picks for this TOA because his kit is just that flexible (Debuff + terrain clear here IIRC) and Flavia has seen a rise because of her defensive capabilities. The real downside of it all is that having to deliberate on pulling for so many characters is tiring as hell, especially since you can only shard three characters at most.
