    I'm just waiting for the Archives series to continue. I have volumes 0-24 and I've been waiting for 25 for almost two years. I know I can read it online, but it just ain't the same! (Also Ken Penders screwed over this series, pre-issue 250 the lore was so good)

      Penders is the reason they stopped the Archive series I think. They're not allowed to reprint old stories with his characters anymore

    I fell in love with the series with the comics too. My first one was Sonic X issue 20. I fell in love with the attitude of Sonic, and the design of the character. Later, I read more of the Sonic Archives, which were a great source to help me get into the old Archie Comics Sonic.

    The first issue that really got me into the series was issue #200, when Sonic finally defeats Dr. Eggman "for good". After that issue, I kept going and buying the new issues monthly until my parents ordered a year-long subscription for me for my birthday. This kept going for a few years, getting a new subscription every year until I just grew out of it. Kinda sad that I stopped reading because I don't even remember where I left off or where to start.

    My introduction to Sonic was definitely my Genesis and Sega 6-Pak Cartridge, but I eventually did delve into the Archie Comics series, and it was the beginning of my grasp of what it meant to anticipate and appreciate lore-building and world-building in fiction. It eventually led me to Anime and Manga, which also does these things quite well. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for this series. I only wish I could find online scans to add to my digital collection of media.

    This was only part of the introduction to Sonic for me. I was lucky enough to have a Sega Genesis and a Gamecube when it was new. My first games were the main classics on the Genesis and Sonic Adventure 2. With other media, the Archie comics were a big part and is still one of my favorite comic series as a whole. For the cartoons, my first were the OVA (which I think is how classic sonic should be depicted instead of a fuzzy Pixar character) and Sonic X was the other. I then proceeded, years later, to watch the Satam and Sonic Underground. Both which I very much enjoyed. I never bothered to watch the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog because I never liked the silly almost looney toons take on a franchise like this (much like the more modern stuff after 06 and Unleashed). I have just started to read the British Sonic the Comic. Its a very weird series, but VERY GOOD at the same time. I stopped with the games after Unleashed and Colors because I didn't like the story/character/gameplay direction. I always preferred the more Adventurish gameplay style that a lot of the games had as well as the serious characters and stories. I still at least had the comics to go back to and they have never disappointed me for the most part. I'm not to keen on the new timeline, but I do appreciate the fact that they tie the games together a lot better than the actual games themselves in the new timeline. The archie comics, in my opinion, have the best interpretations of ALL the in game characters. Sega really needs to look at these comics when it comes to characters, character development, story telling, and world building because sonic is much better as something more serious and compelling rather than being dumbed down to the level of a modern cartoon or Mario clone. I really enjoyed this video. If you read this comment, I hope you enjoyed my little history with Sonic. Have a good one.

      I've never really read the comics, but I want to give them a try at some point. My first introduction into the series was Adventure 2 and Heroes (still some of my favorites) in 2006 when I first got my Gamecube. I do wish they would keep the more serious vibe, maybe they'll do that with Forces?

    My memory's a little shaky on how I was introduced to Sonic in the comics, but I remember picking up the last issue of Sonic X and Issue 196 of the comic at a mall that had a book store a few years ago. I didn't make the connection at the time, but I found it cool that Shadow and Metal Sonic from Issue 196 were teleported to the last issue of Sonic X. I've read a good chunk of the Archie Sonic series, and I liked most of it, barring a few moments, fuck Issue 134. I haven't kept up with the book for a while, but I liked the reboot from what I've read.

    I really liked the world the story took place in. So many interesting characters and relationships. Too bad the games are severely lacking since Sega has all the story content they need to make an outstanding sonic game. The amount of games they can throw out based on Comic lore would rival final fantasy since there's so much of it. They would just have to get the gameplay right which I think copying witcher 3, ratchet and clank, or the GTA hub world with story elements would be really good.

    I use to be so into this series, post 70 it was really hard to keep interested in the series. They simply threw so much lore and past history and then just made up stuff that it was really hard to get past that. While I totally recognize that Sonic X was great reboot, I just could never get into it as it was not as nearly as deep or dark as the series I grew to enjoy. (but that was ultimately why I had to quit)
    Issue 37 was my first, and for the most part I still argue has the best setup for a core store of sonic in general. It was more or less what came from the DIC cartoon series but much more cleaned up in the best of ways.
    I loved the arc that it builds up to and between that and through 70 the series did a pretty good job keeping me guessing what was going to happen. Which is still the oddest issue ever, but the fact my sister made it in makes it priceless to m

    If people don't know where to start at. You can always look back on sonic mega collection plus & go to comics they had alot of comics from 1991-2003 even though the game came out of 2004. But yeah thats when I first seen the Archie comics from.

  • @MrOzzification

    Maybe it's just me but from what I member, the art in issue 86 seems trippy as hell. Especially in the beginning. Just the poses and facial expressions have a bit of have an absurdist vibe goin on.
    I'll always be grateful for the Sonic Mega Collection game. It was my introduction to the comics. Just being able to see Spaz's dramatic artwork on most of the covers with the melancholic music playing in the background. It really emphasised that the comic was a lot more emotional & character focused than the games. So I was super curious to find out the whole story.
    Also pretty excited for your analysis of the arc in 88-101, where they miss a decent opportunity to make good use of Chaos Knuckles. Too bad Penders wasn't letting anyone get their hands on "his" precious characters at the time.

    These essays your doing are really interesting to take a gander at. I'm very happy you're talking about some of the interesting arcs in the sonic comics while giving some ideas what sonic should be. been reading the sonic comics for a while now and i feel bad that the comics are allegedly ending. for me, i would love to see a spin-off game based on the comics, but that would be difficult to pull of because of sonic boom's terrible and mediocre scores and sega of japan not willing to use the characters because of unfamiliarity with them, etc.

  • @fanboicucklorde1645
    @fanboicucklorde1645 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    That's where you're wrong dude. Archie just forgot to renew the comic's license with Sega of Japan, who ordered a cease-and-desist. Don't worry the comic will continue but the dates and everything have been pushed back.

    Hey you said that you had fallen off by the time Ian Flynn started writing for the series. Would you be willing to look into some of his works? I’d say that even his early stuff, like issue 160, is still really good at introducing and exciting new viewers while consolidating years of messy canon. Please check it out if you ever revisit Archie.

    I was introduced to Sonic through the first game on the Genesis around the time Adventures was being released. Even though I watched the anime I didn't really become too attached to the characters personalities until I bought the Mega Collection and discovered the comics. I really Shard and his whole character arc from this story onward, and his was one of the most disappointing for me to see deleted after the whole comic reboot.

      TheMikkelator the very beginning was in the 90's, and the comics were simple, cute, and comedic stories. Towards the end of the 90's reaching the 2000's is when things really started to get intricate

      @TheKazeblade  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      After Ian Flynn took over the comic in 2006, the comic remained consistently good. Pretty much anything after issue 160 you're pretty certain to have a good time!
      There's still some great gems in the pre-Flynn run, though. Just gotta know what to look for! I highly recommend the Return to Angel Island arc in issues 138-141 as the last high point before Flynn came onboard :)

    • @Trent957
      @Trent957 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Endgame Arc (issues 46-50) is pretty good as well imo. A very major character straight up dies in that arc and the whole set up of it was pretty dark for a kids comic. The next few issues after it are kinda filler-ish, but one of them (forgot which one exactly) makes what was supposed to be an accidental death turn into straight up murder.
      But i also peg it as a better ending to the SatAM cartoon as well as a launching point of what could have been the aftermath of the last episode of SatAM as well.
