I have a Predator 4550 open frame inverter generator with less than 20 hours on it. Was frustrated when it started to chug just as you described in the video. I used your fix today and it worked PERFECTLY! Thank you.
seriously. i’ve seen so many vids talking about drilling holes in the air case, removing the spark arrestor, taking out the charcoal canister…this seems to be the issue that’s causing everyone trouble. thank you for the very informative video!
Thanks for the info! I just bought mine and I'm running a break in procedure at this moment. It's brand new... I notice it runs and started immediately. But it does have a surge of rpm about every 30 to 60 seconds, with what sounds like a bit of popping. Will an NGK plug help smooth it out? I am assuming that the idle port is not clogged from the factory? Also, would carb cleaner do the job without removing the screw and port? Thanks again!
I'm not sure about the carb cleaner working as I've never really tried it. And I've ran into that surging also. Make sure you are running non oxygenated premium gas in it. I always add some Seafoam also.
Thanks, I am off grid and have 2 generators one is Wen and the other is this model… that surge is driving me crazy so now I know how to fix it. Thanks 🙏
Any idea on what the metric sizing is for the eco mode idle screw? Mine snapped off inside of it and I'm wondering if I should just replace the entire carb or find another screw to use for it. I wonder why they made that screw out of plastic 😒
I put a small plastic inline fuel filter on Before I added fuel. You'd be surprised to see the amount of black plastic shavings that were in the filter. I haven't had the surging issues and hope I dont.
Two minutes in and I can’t stop laughing my roommate falls asleep to TH-cam videos of wanna date Chris Hansen’s trying to catch them child predators lol I’m dying right now this is funny thank you so much for this you’re awesome
What causes the secondary jet to clog up is that the engine is running to rich, and you need to change the main jet, (the one in the float bowl ) to match your altitude, I live at about 5500 feet altitude so I am using a number 68 size jet. You will also notice that you get more hours per gallon. I hope this helps you out
My manual for the preditor 3500 inverter generator says make first oil change after 30 hours ? Where are you seeing after the 1st hour ? Most people buy these for emergency such as right now it's 30 below with windchill and a whiteout and power outages everywhere , I've never heard of having to change your oil after 1 hour?
I do that as a best practice any time I get a new small engine. One hour and ten hours. Both times with the predator it had a lot of metal shavings in the oil so I'm glad I did it.
@Don't Burn the House Down! Wow okay that makes sense ,I just bought mine tho I'm in Ohio it's -6 degrees and 30 below with windchill, power keeps going out and I'm listening to your channel thinking do I really have to do this after the first hour lol (its cold and dark ) I completely understand your thinking, I however might have to let it go til morning unfortunately before it's first ever change...Thanks
Oh for sure! That's my schedule under normal circumstances. If you need it now, crank that baby up. She'll hold until morning. Good luck and stay safe!
A question. Your generator is 120Volt and your house panel 220 Volt. Do you have a jumper wire on your power cord? How do you supple both sides of the bus? Thank you..
I removed the control panel and disconnected the kill wire from the on off dial. So when to turn it to off it continues to run and burn all the fuel in the carb.
Oh how I wish there was a simple method to REMOVE that black plastic frame thing that is right in the way of all carburetor adjustments and work! Why did they build it that way? I'm tempted to cut it off top and bottom, and reinstall with some thin aluminum sheet and a couple of screws to patch it up top and bottom. The idle adjust screw: If you don't remember or can't set it exactly where it was.... just screw it back in a wee bit more than you think it was.... RUN the engine with no load. Listen to the rpm. Back it out slowly, and the rpm will decrease. When it stops decreasing, you're at the correct setting. Screw it back in just a wee bit to hear it start going back up to make sure you didn't go out too far. Try the Eco mode, and the idle there should be a wee bit lower than normal mode. You're done with the idle screw!
Was at rhe race track running my camper of the Genie and this video will sav me a return trip back to get another 1 and having to buy the warranty now..! Great vid..! Keep'em comin. Consider yourself followed by me..!
Should have taken the black frame off too. OHV is Over Head Valve. With the black frame off, also remove bothe ends of the tube between the air filter and t he OHV.
For some reason oil is rushing out of my dipstick hole. Shit is everywhere. I hope i didnt get a bad unit. I cant even put in 20 ounces. Maybe 10 without it coming out
Drain it completely and try again. It should only take about 20 ounces max. My guess is, if you just changed it, it didn't all come out and it's overfilled.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos yes sir I did. I just bought it. Checked to see if there was any oil and got nothing. Even as we speak it's running but it's leaking oil somewhere and I can't find that leak. I have a newer one than yours. Everything seems tight but something is definitely leaking at the bottom.
That screw doesn’t set the ideal the solenoid does that screw should only protrude two threads and never touch the throttle in any way. It’s only to keep the pilot in

Terrific! I'm glad it worked for you!
It worked. Idle was driving me nuts. Worked like a charm. Thanks
I'm glad it worked!
Followed your video for oil change and removing and clearing port with wire brush single wire. Perfect idle
I'm so glad it helped!
Fixed mine, wire from the steel brush awesome tip. Thanks man
I'm glad it worked!
Great vid! The OHV thingy is your valve/rocker arm cover, take it off to adjust the valves.
Thank you!
Best explanation I've seen on how to clean that port, and I've seen them all.
Thank you!! Glad I could help!

You're welcome! It works for me! Hopefully it will work for you.
The thing you call a port is called a low speed jet. It’s a metering device. Nice video 👍
And now I know! Thank you for the comment!
Does everyone have two o-rings on this jet? I bought used and only have the lower oring.
Nice Job! This was very helpful. I love the details.
Thank you!

It works like a champ! Just make sure to drain the bowl when you are done running it.
Don't Burn the House Down! Roger that
Best vid on here! I just did this and saved me $ ! Thanks for the video!
You're very welcome!! Thanks for stopping by!
Tilt the engine to the side when draining oil. You left several ounces of used oil in the engine.

That's a basic and extremely terrific idea. I'm doing that to mine! Thanks for the suggestion.

I put a small inline fuel filter on mine. We'll see if that takes care of a reoccurring ( about every 200 hrs) problem.
I've seen several folks do that and it seems like a terrific idea.

A different commenter said that the adapter I'm using to go from 3 to 4 wires has a jumper that makes both sides hot. I'm assuming that's it.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos I need the same jumper have you a part number I could order? Thanks
This is what I have.

Have you noticed it having trouble starting with the carburetor bowl emptied of gas?
Not at all. It takes 2-3 pulls and fires every time.
I removed the control panel and disconnected the kill wire from the on off dial. So when to turn it to off it continues to run and burn all the fuel in the carb.
Do you have to remove all of the fuel from the generator before you drain the carburetor bowl?
Nope! That screw will drain the bowl but it won't keep draining the tank.

Yes i have done that..No problems
Does anyone know the correct rpms on eco mode and off with no load? Mine is 2600 and 3000
Do you know how to adjust the non eco idle speed?
No I don't.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos I figured it out but it disables the eco mode.

I'd take it back. Harbor Freight is great with returns and exchanges.
In lieu of using a pin or wire brush bristle, tap it on a hard surface to dislodge debris.
Turn switch to just about off position the gas valve is shut will run a couple minutes will run out of gas then turn switch off carb empty .
Thanks for the tip!
Mine is chugging so hard it feels like it's jumping
It’s a dipstick not a thread stick. you do not thread the dipstick in to check oil and your case you are very low.
That screw doesn’t set the ideal the solenoid does that screw should only protrude two threads and never touch the throttle in any way. It’s only to keep the pilot in
If you want a quick fix:
th-cam.com/video/fYoBS2kQEOg/w-d-xo.html
Yea u should of changed that oil way earlier and that's called a valve cover.
Or a pilot jet
To fix a predator... To be continued
Soooooo fucking funny
Great video but I cheated I put from half and ounce to a ounce of seafoam in a tank
I have used Seafoam and Sta-bil. I still had issues with that port clogging up. The only cure, even with additives, was to drain the bowl.
I know they say not to use gas with no ethanol but the other additives is the problem not the ethanol
I only run clear premium in all of my small engines. I literally think it's just a design flaw.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos I agree a carb jet setting screw made of plastic
This intro was very creepy. Not necessary.
Pretty much! But I was bored. 😂
