- In the Heart of Auckland is an engineering Marvel. This is Auckland's Sky Tower. It is an Architectural Icon in the heart of the CBD that required many innovative structural engineering techniques to come together to make this possible. Sky Tower's structure needed unique engineering design and innovative construction techniques. This Video came about from a friend's question about how this building can stand up, and I provided a full structural engineering breakdown for the Sky Tower.

Hello. I have heard that back in 2005 a mentally ill pilot threatened to crash into the Sky Tower. I have heard that it was only a small plane so it wouldn't have been another 9/11 but what if a large commercial plane was purposely crashed into the Sky Tower? Would it have been a repeat of 9/11 with people trapped in the floors above the impact with no means of escape? And would the Tower collapse in such an event or would it be different from the Twin Towers getting hit since it has a different structure? Thank you.

I remember that 2/3 of the cables in the legs missed the anchor points.. & we made “strong backs” / whalers to anchor the cables between their designed anchor works…..
Our work is buried in depths of all that concrete..👍

?.. it were 20 years ago… we never went to site or saw them installed…, they were heavily gusseted out of 400mm channels ish & loads of 20/25 mm plates…

I worked on the skt tower a number of years ago and we had to repair the concrete blowing out down the side of the tower. The rebar was getting wet and in turn expanding blowing the concrete out. I use to find bits of Fallin concrete on the ground below. Lucky it didn't fall on any ones head
concrete canser is a big issue with concrete structures and if it has started to occur will require on going maintaince. falling concrete could hurt someone if not addressed.
