The 12 thumbs down must have been trumpet players. They were always jealous of the trombone players. Theirs is outstanding! What talent!!

My favorite part is when Jiggs is done with his solo and listens to the band play and stops and smiles admiring whats happening around him. Urbie did it and it'll keep being done.

Wow that contrabass (I believe that was Brandt Attema) sounded just like a tuba. Amazing. All of this is amazing.

I have no clue who layer down that fat pedal at 7:50, but god damn that made the whole thing that much better

Look up 'Bones from Brazil' for I think the same performance, or at least some of the same people.

Being a trombonist and having followed Urbie Green since high school (70-74), it wasn't until this group started playing Perdido that it brought back memories of the original 21 trombones. The medley of other compositions didn't highlight this group at their best. Don't confuse loud overblowing with stylistic technique. Also the walking around was a distraction, not a feature.

A hundred years ago, I don't think anyone could play the trombone like that. I would love to have an explanation of how this change came about.

Bigbands in the thirties, and jazz in general had an emancipating effect probably
