Planning to do anymore MS3PNP videos? I have no tuning background and will be installing my MS3PNP with a new engine. Gonna run it NA for a bit before slapping on the blower.
I’ve been dealing with belt slip, my idler pulley bearings were shot so I think that’s what my issue is. I replaced them but haven’t had a chance to run my car hard
You'd need a different ECU as the stock one chokes around 7200 RPM. Also some cam's and valve springs. I'm not sure what RPM the stock rods & rod bolts will handle but I have better than stock rods and rod bolts too.
@@MalcolmV8 So could I get an aftermarket set of cams and rev it to 7k on stock ecu with no issues? My buddy has ARP everything including the headstuds - courtesy of a valve seat dropping into the motor (make sure you have the revised heads). He would like to do cams and be able to rev to 7k
@@racequad9 I used to rev to 7k on stock cams and ECU. It was kind of pointless because it was past peak power but if you change the cams yes you can rev to 7k no problem on the stock ECU. After 7k it runs out of steam and around 7200 RPM you just hit a wall and it won't rev anymore.
Possibly cheaper else where, this is not where I bought mine. I've had mine many years but a google search found this link. It's the same kit www.ebay.com/itm/152171573581
Both. If you look at the setup shimming the lower moves the alternator forwards & backwards. Shimming the upper bolt changes the angle of the alternator. As in the front pulley moving up or down. That way you can totally square it in place.
@@MalcolmV8 awesome thanks for the reply! I bought a new alternator for mine but I couldn’t get it to stop squealing so I put my stock alternator back on (which works fine I just wanted a higher amperage one) and the belt noise went away. After I put a straight edge to my older one I noticed it tilted like yours was. Ima buy that laser alignment tool and start adding shims if I need to 😅
It's crazy how much issues you can run into with that alternator. I remember when I had my cobra, I installed a mechman alternator (and a few other things) and could figure out why i kept on shredding belts. Turns out mechman didnt tell me I needed some washers since I was running their bigger 2.9 alt pulley
It’s definitely a finicky setup and needs to be squared away properly. In the end it wasn’t even my problem. I kept shredding belts till I swapped out that 8 lb lower back for my 4 lb lower. Then all was well.
@@MalcolmV8 That makes me nervous. My buddy and I are going to be installing a 6lb lower on his cobra soon. I wonder how a large lower is causing those issues??
@@racequad9 either the run out was too much (I took some video of how it looked but it didn't make the final cut due to time constraints) or it's the placement and size of that idler right next to the lower as I was pointing out in the video. I plan to play around with this again later and figure it out.
I was data logging the car while driving and filming. I later sync'd the video and the data log and then used video editing software to put on a gauge which is referencing the data log of the run.
The housing width is custom. About 5 or 6 years ago I hurt my back and had to pay a shop to finish my solid axle. They were supposed to make it the same width as the IRS so I could reuse my wheels but they totally botched it and it's a little over 2 inches shorter. So wheels have to be deeper dish to offset the extra narrow axle housing.
First time viewer on the channel but have been following some of your content on SVTP for years. I have a nations alternator installed it last year, and I have the SAME issue now with the belt squeal at startup which dissipates after a minute or so. I've been messing with different supplied washers on the lower alternator bolt to no avail. Wasn't an issue until this alt, and running the green belts. I also have the roush tensioner but have for years. Any other advice?
Glad you found the channel, I'm personally not a fan of the green belts, they always tend to squeal and I see a lot of others reporting that too. Mostly I just don't like the green color in the engine bay lol. I would say your pulley alignment is still off. Have you used a laser alignment tool like I did in the video and fussed about with it? They are not perfect tools but without one you're just guessing and likely never get it unless you get lucky.
Yes they were 15s. Almost all brands of 15x8 will fit without grinding. I run 15x10 which did require a small amount of grinding. I also had to clearance the tips of the parking brake cable just a tiny amount as well as the nipple on the brake bleeder and I believe even the head of the banjo bolt just a smidge. Every brand of wheel is different and requires more or less clearancing. Of course once I swapped in the SRA everything fits nicely with no issues lol
@@shftn04 😅trust me I got a lot of that from everyone lol. It's just never bothered me. I had welded in re-enforcements in the torque boxes long time ago and just rolled with it.
Thumbnail made this look so much like Screaming Yellow I was afraid you got a different car 😄 Interesting that 6lb lower is warped or causing all the belt issues. Wonder if Metco had a bad batch?
yeah I never did figure it out 100%. That 8 lb lower is either warped or it didn't like the way I had the accessory pulley adjacent to it. The 6 lb lower I never did test out. I just went back to the 4 that I know works for now. I'll revisit this again one day and see if I can figure out more. Funny on the yellow. It never seems to photograph how it looks. Usually looks better in pics 😂

Where the idler bearings so bad that the pulley's could wiggle around? or just kind of rough to turn?
@@MalcolmV8 easy to spin but would have slight wobble. you could hear the bad bearing if you took the pulley off and shook it
@@nthnI've never heard of that causing belt slip but if it's a pulley right next to the blower or crank pulley I could see that happening.
