Hey guys, how's it going? Chris Connor here and welcome to another episode of filmmaker reacts for my channel. Seat back, relax and lets study the filmmaking techniques as well as talk about what visual effects can be pulled of within after effects! This week we are reacting and taking a look at two LEAGUE OF LEGENDS K/DA VILLAIN CONCEPT cinematic trailers!

8:30 she isninto BDSM, those kind of whips, and do what the claws do but better, in game she jumps to you with those things to stab you since she is a succubus... Fun fact in KDA lore, where she is supposed to be human... No one has seen her boyfriends after she dates em... They just dissapear
“not showing her” is actually a major part of her character and gameplay. she lurks in the shadows and only reveals herself on the attack. she’s a demon who feeds on the suffering of others.

Who is she though
In game Evelynn lurks in the shadows until she attacks. This is the reason why they only show parts of her or why she's in the shadows. The tails/slashers and nails are her weapons ingame.
She's also basically a succubus that "charms" men to follow her to their demise, and charms in League have a general pink/purple vibe to them, and why they showcase the heart/smoke (she turns invisible with a puff of smoke in the game) in this video. Also follows the lyrics of "Just do what I say, follow me I'll lead the way." As a succubus, yeah she doesn't feed on women so all her friends are ONLY in K/DA, and they're all women.
Edit: just had some major shower thoughts. This video is probably from the perspective of her victims, like you don’t “see” Evelynn throughout until it’s too late. The weird distorted visuals and vocals are all an effect of her charm making you delusional.

Also from her tails she releases a venom that immobilizes amd control the mind of her prey. It is shown in her splash art.

Also she is friends with them mostly because they make her famous & so more prey (her fans) comes to her. It's not that she only kills men. She just wants anyone to suffer.

Evelynn is a demon/succubus in the game, and the music video represents what she's doing in the game, her gameplay. She's always invisible, hidden, and waiting for a prey to show up and she ... eviscerates it, :) . And the "tails" are weapons she uses to kill, she controls em.

For normal Evelynn - Her "tails" are called the lashers, its her weapon along with her claws. She uses them to torture her prey in unimaginable ways before finally killing them.
Kda Evelynn has a separate lore where the lashers are just accessories for her performance on stage and videos etc. She is also a car collector (which is why in pop stars we see her with a lot of lambos and here with a dodge charger 1970) she is also the diva, the fashion lover and the most popular of the group with magazines always writting rumours about her and whenever she is seen with a men (on a red carpet or dinner) they always disappear afterwards.
Also her pushing through the glass with the fire is a refference to the rebirth of lilith

The Tails are actually called “lashers” and I’m sure you can guess as the name implies what they do to her victims haha.

LOL xD didn’t realise this but I realised the little gaps between her teeth to give it also more realism cause most ppl have gaps and only promis with much money and really lucky guys have “perfect” or fake teeth
they add a lot of really neat details like that!! to name a few of them: they animated her heels wobbling as she walks on uneven ground like you mentioned, at 3:19 you can see her claw push back off the wall after hitting it because of the kinetic energy of her hand and the impact with the wall stopping the motion, at 3:23 you can see her claw keeps hitching as she drags it down the wall because it's snagging on the gritty surface, at 4:13 you can see her lips do that thing people's lips do where they stick together and pull apart when she opens her mouth, at 5:30 you can see visible pores/dimples/bumpy sort of textures on her skin (and at various other points throughout the video you can see very realistic textures on her skin, with visible palm lines & wrinkles on her hands etc). they're all such small details but they add _so_ much to the visuals and make her feel so much more tangible and real, it's a lot of fun to watch the video and appreciate all the tiny details they decided to include

The reason the video doesn't seem "coherent" is because it's *not* a music video. This is titled as the "Official Concept Video."
K-Pop fans tend to be more familiar with this term. Artists typically release a "Music Video" which is made to tell a story from beginning to end. Whereas a "Concept Video" is just that-a concept. It represents the aesthetics and what goes on inside the mind of the artist. It shows the theme of the whole song.
In this case, we see what makes Evelynn well.. Evelynn. The "Concept Video" focuses on her nails, her lashers, the whole being in darkness (because she's an assassin), and her cars. We see her being a natural, enticing diva and that's the whole point.
Evelynn just needs to tease her presence, and she’ll be all up in your brain.
Then you go *pop.*
Evelyn silhouette mv represents Evelyn runnin' for a kill behind shadows
Purple is most commonly linked to royalty and mystery, which I feel fits Evelynn and her story really well. Also, food for thought on the snakes: Snakes while connected to evil, they are also connected to healing (the Caduceus symbol) and were symbols of rebirth and renewal by Greeks. More so, the myth of Medusa comes to mind, an attractive girl violated by a god and then given the power to turn men into stone by Athena as punishment, in a weird twist at the same time punishing her and giving her the power to defend herself in the future, making her a very dangerous woman.
Im in love with this video tbh, I just want an instrumental version of the song to go with the video so I can be completely sucked into it with all its glory.
I think the "pink" part is actually her charm ability from in-game. She essentially charms the opponent for a few seconds and it she hits them with an ability it procs them to walk towards her "dilerious" for a few seconds. It makes sense when we see the heart (thats what it looks like in game) then the pink smoke/envronment warping around them from being crazed pretty much.
Or thats how I viewed that part as an Evelynn player - maybe I'm reaching :P
I think this whole video is an excellent showcase of the most challenging aspects of animation. Liquid, smoke physics, light dynamics, fabric movement, etc. And they really nailed it.

Knowing that she's a demon, is amazing how they managed to keep her in the darkness the entire video, and making it sexy but keeping it ambiguous. This is in another artistic level. My fav League of Legends video so far. Great analysis as always!

Some fact of her lore for you:
1. Evelynn is kind of Succubus, not a vampire.
2. She very likely to tease whoever she just meet to death, so maybe the tease about face reveal you mention come from this. (Or maybe just because she can invisible entire time in the game, until she want to reveal, from lv 6)
3. Her tail is use to grap the victim, while her nail use to kill (But acctually in game, her ultimate ability is using her Tail).

About the light switching on in that building. I think Evelynn is looking for her next victim (since she's a succubus of some sort) and while everything is dark in the city, there is one light guiding her toward someone who's still awake. In the very next scene you also see her peeking inside the lit up room, I guess.
Oh yes totally- and towards the end, when all the lights in the city turn on, it's like *everyone* could be her next victim, no one is safe.

I absolutely love the visual representation of her W in this video lol
This is an incredible artistic journey of depicting the choosing of a victim, we the viewers, (the beauty-less cityscape with the sudden injection of a distant mysterious and beautiful silhouette and the subsequent acknowledgement of her "innocently" noticing you having noticed her, I can hear her maniacal giggle when that occurs), finding her way inside our heads (looking through the ajar door), the passage of time and her moving in (her appearing inside and her stuff gradually decorating our house), her seduction of us, confusing us with reality and fantasy (this puts her in the driver's seat), and then the feeding begins and she destroys us from within. Its incredibly well done.
Also the vehicle is a '69 Dodge Charger. According to my enthusiast buddy
now this is a good reaction, cus he never stopped or inturupted the video, when he first time watch it, not like this stupid reactions 'channels' which should get banned anyways, cus stright up most of them, dont even do it right, they just put 99% of someone's video and just say max 5 words. Evelynn does not have tails, I think they are called 'Lashers'.. And she can use them or the claws to kill her victims. Riot really nailed it in this cinematic, the song and whole theme fits Evelynn's character and lore so perfect.
I really love how they perfectly emulated the anamorphic look and characteristics with the bokeh, flares and imperfections that an anamorphic lens have
I think the reason the video is like that is because it is meant to be analyzed beyond what we see. Because in Evelynn's short audio clip, she mentions that she likes to focus on visuals and tell a story, and that it's not what we see that matters, it's what we dont.
According to a lot of people, it seems that the video was hinting at Evelynn's character and her playstyle in LoL
Man I was waiting for this video and I am not disappointed. Also the last few frames feel super grounded in realism as nothing about her model is symmetrical and the smile at the end is more of a sideways smirk, adding more to her devious character
Evelynn is the "manifestation" of pain and torment. She is close to a succubus, but instead enticing people and then tourturing them as painfully and slow as possible to "feed" on the pain off her pray. In video shes not showed fully since if u see her u are already dead. Ingame she is invisible and becomes visible when attacking an enemy or when she gets "to close". Her "tails" are called lashers and she uses them to eviscerate her foes. Great video as always

Evelynn is an amazing character and how it is represented in the KDA Universe and this video is just amazing. All the teasing is because you can't see it, by the time you see it, you're dead, so Evelynn is truly a villian in a way. But I think it's just hungry 🤭
This is easily my favorite of the KDA videos Riot has made, because this fits so perfectly with the in game/in lore Evelynn.
I felt like this was just Riot’s CGI team flexing their physics rendering skills
1. The snakes- that move and wiggle around on top of each other
2. The blue silk draped on top of her while she walks
3. The membrane material she stretches with her claw
4. The car to snakeskin to silk transition
5. The chairs collapsing in on each other
Less impressive but still cool and used to good effect
6. Smoke and dust particles
7. Fire and water
This video feels more like a Tech Demo than an actual music video. They go out of their way to incorporate all the hardest to digitally create aspects: Fluids, smoke, fire, very complex materials interacting with light (refraction, reflection, translucency) especially on complex shapes and detailed surfaces, animated textures/materials... all that stuff...
Personally I wouldn't care much for the song, but the visuals are just so great from a technical standpoint. I'd be interested to see an actual video project with this level of CG...
In short, Evelynn is simply an entity. In the lore of LoL, it arose during a series of battles known as "Runic Wars". Initially, this entity (amorphous) fed on the pain and suffering of those soldiers who fell in battle. Eventually these wars ended, so Evelynn no longer had enough "food" to survive, so she must have found some way to get food. Over the years he learned to adopt different forms, each time better than the previous ones, in order to attract her victims and torture them to death, until she reached what we know today: a beautiful and sensual woman who Without any problem is capable of attracting any man. Once this is done, we all know what the poor man's fate will be.

From my understanding and from her lores:
1. The music video is shes teasing you thats why u can't see her. Shes a demon that lure men and devour their soul.
2. Empty town lights up shes on top of building to search new victims.
3. Ur right on her minds of criminal/inner worlds.
4. Chairs represent her victims, new pink sofa is her new victim while old clump up chair is her old victims.
5. Snakes represent how many killcounts soul shes already consumed/ become evilness within her.
6. Nail movement and eyes to allure and control her victim to her.
7. Hell break loose on bridge! She starts to show herself as victim draws near.
8. New pink sofa is consumed by darkness. Her new victim done for!
9. Shes start lurking in darkness for you. You start seeing her Smiling at you.
10. Whop pah! Ur dead hahah.

I mean as far as I know Evelynn is a stylish, slick mannered sex obsessed extremely effective killer who WAS fragile but new items can remove this weakness can regen her health and has been reworked at least once to better show it.
She is a jungler in game that has been buffed from items to the point where if she finds you your basically screwed unless you manage to stun and burst her before she touches you or your a super tank even then you still must focus her as the tank or she will delete you AS the tank astonishingly fast (I am being completely serious about the delete part).
In short she's almost the strongest character in the game this video shows some of her story in a textured visual representation.

Evelynn is literally just a demon that feeds on humans' suffering. She choose a form to seduce people and kill them as slowly and painfully as possible. This skin is a reimagining of the character where she's actually human, all the K/D/A characters are set in the real world. But she still retains a lot of her original personnality.
In game, she is permanently invisible except when she's in combat. Before exiting stealth she places a delayed curse on you, which seduces and forces you to walk towards her if she manages to hit you after the curse is primed. Her lashers (tails) are her semi-long range weapons which she uses for most of her attacks.
there are a lot of references to Medusa. the danger of a powerful and provocative woman. the scene when she is backlit by fire behind the window and pushing through the window, looks like she is in danger and trying to escape the fire. but the very next visual is that she is not, she is the fire. there is just so much. you could watch it 100 times and still find details that represent her loneliness, and power. walking through the spotlights that are looking for her casually and none of them ever land on her. waving her fingers in the air like a puppet master playing with the strings. there is just so much in here. it's pretty nuts

I don't think kia sai is bad but definitely not what was expected. I think they could have at least animated kai sai next to the girl that's dancing ( she did an amazing job)
It makes sense for her to stay in the shadows. Even at the last second, it's only them teasing her face because of her play style. She unleashes her combo which is very fast the moment the charm takes effect (though not always because the charm can become a slow if the charging is interupted). It's a big burst of damage. If you were a character in the game, you wouldn't even be able to see her full appearance because you'd be dead in a split second.
Hello, at first that single apartment light can mean that she has just acquired a new prey and she is about to hunt them down, the scene where several buildings light up at the end could be her just hunting them ALL because that is what she does as a demon. Also, the purple reverse slo-mo heart thingy and the laughing are based on a skill called "allure" which she uses to charm and attract her prey against their will
this is an allegory of how she works lorewise... once she got you hooked on luring you for a good time the heart pops off and she's already on your mind and then you start going insane since she just starts killing you and feed off your pain since for her the higher on bliss you are before falling into despair the tastier the treat it is.
Also... those "tails" are basically to flail you alive *shrugs* hahaha

In the game, she has this hability that makes her invisible, also, she has those tails because in the game lore, she use those to...u know, obtain her food that is basically pain. in the original lore she's a demon that feeds form pain and was the result of all the suffering that war produced.
I can't tell if it was intentional but the two clicks in the little intro screen synced up really well with when Evelynn woulda said "go POP" 0:02
Interesting!! U mentioned purple being the 'in-between'. From what I know purple is also a colour of 'nobility' and it's also usually used to represent dark magic or evil (usually dark purple).

I like how for like 1 second her true demon form starts showing up, non stylized lashers growing out of her back like razor sharp tree roots. And redder eyes.
So in the video Evelynn in the start is hunting a prey and in the 8:26 she found one, the person who is watching the video, and the weird stuff in her video is what she made with her victims mind, before she torture and kill you ;P
ps: she hides in the shadows thats why we barely can see her... and the uses her tails like wips or lashers
Not being able to quite see her is actually a play on how she is in the game.
If you can see Evelynn then you're already dead.
She thrives in the shadows... she quite literally heals while stealthed in the game. You might consider going to a wiki and looking up the abilities of these champions it might help give you insight on why the champions are portrayed certain ways in these special videos. :)

the light showed up at 8:30 is because when someone gets close to evelynn when she's invisible, an indicator lights up
The tails are for stabbing and slashing. In game they look like coat-tails that sometimes extend upward and forward. They're more like large bladed tentacles than tails really. The claws are for injuring, the tails are for killing.
one of her ability in game is tale whip where she curves her tails towards an enemy and dash or hit them while clawing at same time so clawing with her hands and together with her tail, its not a part of her but her clothing. @chris connor
This video is actually so well made that if you watch closely the shots focused on her feets (like 0:56 for example) when she's walking on kind of a durt with small gravel floor you can see that her ankles kinda wobble because of how irregular the ground is and because she's walking with high heels ! Yes there's that much details ! Now we can say the devil is in the details x)

Evelynn is probably the best name they could have given to her because she's basically a sadistic demon that feeds on the pain of others. To do this, she tempts others in a mortal form of an attractive lady and lures them into the shadow where she tortures them until they die. Fun stuff, but back to the name. Evelynn, as you pointed out, has the word 'evil' ringing in it as well as 'devil', but the name itself presumably derives from Avalin > Ava/Avi which was Ancient Germanic for 'Desired'. So her name literally translates to a desired evil.

Riot has mastered the art of finding studios and animators who want to make stuff that people wish they could do while making traditional real life stuff. They do a great job of knowing when and how to add style without it compromising the overall scene.

I know you did some of the Star Wars Old Republic cinematics before but not the ones called Return, Deceived, and Hope. I believe that is the correct order to watch them in as well. Star Wars always makes for some badass moments!

Something to be commented on the visuals on this video. This champion in league of legend is mostly stealth. As in, she is invisible until she starts charming you and then strikes for the kill.
So I love that she is never fully visible in the video, as if she was stealth in her own video, or as in if she was hard to capture in video because she is trying to hide.
These are amazing ways of selling skins... Like, I tried LoL a few times before KDA, but never really got into it... I still liked Ahri though before KDA, but when KDA happened that's when I REALLY got into LoL and handed Riot my money for the Ahri KDA skin which is like 1 of the 2 times I've given Riot money for a specific skin... Ever since then though I've also paid for the various bonuses during most of the events that I've seen and it all goes back to when KDA got me into playing the game more... Evelynn is as you already know an assasin in the game but her unique mechanic is that after lvl 6 she can be in stealth 24/ 7 and when she is in vision she is already super close and you probably gonna die so this video represents that really well and she is a demon kinda like a succubus that enjoys inflicting pain so yeah she is the most sexual character in the game
and in her kda world a lot of her partner or boyfriend have mysteriously dissapear

I think this video is more about her dominating the mind of her victim than being her own mind.
Like the lyrics say "I"ll stay so Deep inside your brain, And take you somewhere far away " that's the reason I think we see the representation of her claws etc...
She is going really Deep on the subconcious level, untill her prey is following her lead without really noticing It.
She breaks that "conscient barrier" (IMO is which that White membrane represents) And the victim only see her really close at the end "when he goes pow".
Edit: that's what fire represents too IMO she breaks that barrier/membrane And in that moment It's too late for the victim, fire already started And he goes pow.

Once upon a time a long time ago there was a a thing, a shapeless wisp of nothing. it felt nothing, nothing gave it the motivation to do anything so it just stayed there for thousands of years until it discovered the pleasure it derived form the suffering of other living creatures, it was the only thing that made it "complete" and "feel". As the *Rune Wars* became more intense and more people suffered it relished in endless pelasure, overtime it became something more, a demon.
It didn't have to do anything for a while, until the wars ended. The only pleasure it had ever known was born of other creatures’ misery. Without their pain, it felt nothing, just as it had in its earliest days. If the world would not provide the suffering the demon needed to thrive, it would have to make its own. It needed to inflict pain on other beings so that it could experience that elation again.
At first, catching prey was a challenge for the demon. It could move undetected in its shadow form, but to touch a human, the creature needed to manifest as something tangible. It made several attempts to fashion a physical body from its shadow-flesh, but each result was more monstrous than the last, scaring off her prey.
The demon realized it needed a shape that was pleasing to humans, one that would not only lure them right into its claws, but would offer them ecstasy born of their own desires, so that their pain would be that much sweeter.
From the shadows, it began to study those it sought to prey upon. It tailored its flesh to their liking, learned to say what they wanted to hear, and to walk in a manner they found alluring.
In a matter of weeks, the demon had perfected her physique, leading dozens of enamored victims to be tortured to death at her hands. Though she relishes the exquisite pain of each of her victims, she always finds herself wanting more. Each human’s desires are so small, and they always expire too soon. Their pain, too fleeting to give her anything more than tiny morsels of pleasure, is just enough to tide her over to the next feeding.
She yearns for the day she can plunge the world into utter chaos, and she can return to an existence of pure, rapturous ecstasy.

Evelynn isn't a "vampire". She's a succubus. A demon that lives off of 'naughty stuff'. She's lived for so long she doesn't get any satisfaction other than brutally destroying and murdering her victims lol... As most say, not seeing her is most part of her kit. She's constantly invisible until a certain range (pain in the ass to deal with). She does use her claws which she literally flails off a target's skin and deals massive damage. Not sure entirely what those lose things are. Didn't quite read her lore.
As for what the song is about. She has an ability similar to Ahri, a certain 'charm' that has to seep in. And those are the charming words which precisely tells how Eve is. She's just brutally honest with you and the moment she has you in her mental web she destroys your mind by saying "Listen to your brain... go stupid go dumb go stupid go numb" (Or whatever the lyrics are lol...). That is pretty much when she kills you.
