    This is wonderful to see and compare with how I have started my bines. Thx for posting.
    Do you show a year’s growth and you hop yield in a subsequent video? I could learn from that, as I’m only in my second season or growth.

    Hi great set up I am going to use this for my hops in my backyard here in new Zealand thanks for sharing

      Thanks so much for your feedback. I am so glad the video was helpful. I actually just picked the Cascade bone yesterday. It was the first one ready for the season. Got 4.5 lbs off of it. Sláinte

    Great intro to hop growing for the homebrewer. Your double 4X4 system is so simple and also removable so that it's only in your face while it's in use. More approachable for someone in a more suburban setting. Cheerz.

      Simple is my middle name LOL. Try to keep it easy to DIY and take care of. I was trying to come up with ideas that would allow me to pick the hops while they are still on the bine as well or lower them if needed with wind storms and such. Appreciate the feedback. Sláinte

    I love the tip about the land. I didn't know hops were so sporadic

    I grew Brews Gold, Willamette, can cascade when i lived in Maine, Willamette did not do well, brewers gold was a beast, i had enough hops the first year for like one brew, second year was a ton of hops, and third year was crazy. very fun but they are a weed and very invasive. I have seen so many different was of doing this but this way is so much better. Ah the sounds of spring!! real smart set up Dennis, Cheers!

      Thanks Gary! Appreciate that. Seen a lot of pre built hop yards and figured I would give it a go DIY. It’s held up well so far. Crazy how certain hops do so well and others just fizzle. The Mt Hood I have been able to count the hops on 2 hands. Gonna give it a another year or two then gonna pull it if it doesn’t produce. Find a variety that will. Hope all is well. Sláinte

    25:13 it doesn't look like you strain it clockwise, I am planting this year for first time in the Netherlands American Chinook and some other variaties. Thank you for the video and do you grow your hops all just what happens or others clockwise around robe? I look forward to your next hop video's

    • @woodshedbrewingco.481
      @woodshedbrewingco.481  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Mine grow with a counter clockwise shape to them. I’ve read where they will have a different rotation for different hemispheres of the world but I’m not sure if that. Basically I’d say all you want to do is train them in the direction they already are showing they want to grow. Whichever direction they start will be the direction you will follow. Them will take care of themselves after that. Hope the video was helpful. I hope to have some growth in the hops in the next month or so. Had snow here this morning so our growing season isn’t here yet. Mid April hopefully. Sláinte!!

    This was exactly what I have been searching for. Where I'm thinking of putting my hops I have powerlines overhead so I don't want to go with metal. I will have to see if the hops will want to get on the powerlines tho. That could be an issue. I'll check tomorrow. I'm in the Oswego NY area so I'm thinking what grows for you will grow for me. I've only been here a few months so I don't have any local connections. My first thing is to get something growing!

      Appreciate the feedback. Glad it was helpful. I’d suggest talking to any local brewers that may grow hops and find out what varieties grow well in your area. It’s can vary greatly depending on your region. Sláinte

    First time grower here in Casselman Ontario Canada. Bought Cascade and Centennial. It gets COLD here in winter. Any tips, will the extreme cold kill my roots?

      I would cover with a good layer of mulch. I’m in Western NY so we get similar temps. Never had any issues with them coming back each spring. Sláinte

    I loved this. Can’t wait to put your design to work here in Ohio. Do you think I would have luck with Hallertau bines in Ohio?

    • @woodshedbrewingco.481
      @woodshedbrewingco.481  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. It’s so dependent on soil and environment. If you have the ability to ask a homebrew club in your area what grows the best…..would think that would be your best bet. Sorry I can’t be more help. Sláinte

    I have a pre-blight variety, passed down from my great, great, great, great grandfather. I’m actually far more interested in expanding it, then containing it. It’s especially sweet and citrusy, and virtually no perceivable bitterness when I’ve made it into beer. Seems pretty delicate, especially, some years, cause the caterpillars go after it voraciously, when they have the opportunity. I have about an acre on part of my lot, right next to where they primarily grow, that’d be ideal, if only they had some structural scaffolding to grow on.

      Would love to hear how these go for you. Might want to check with some local homebrewers to see if they deal with caterpillars and how they deal with it. Hope the video was helpful. Sláinte

    I’m thinking of growing hops on my deck for shade instead of grapes that fall all over the place. How long will it take to cover a 14x16 pergola?

    • @woodshedbrewingco.481
      @woodshedbrewingco.481  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how many you plan to plant not too long at all. I would say 4-5 rhizomes would give a good amount of shade. Might want to plant them in containers just so you can move them later if it doesn’t work out that way you want. Hope this helps. Sláinte

    Japanese beetles devastated my transplants last August. Planted chives in between this year. Anyone have any other tips on naturally deterring Japanese beetles?

    • @woodshedbrewingco.481

      I havent had any issue with that so far but I would suggest asking a local nursery what they suggest. I sure they can get you a pesticide to use. Hope this helps. Slainte!

      Thanks for watching!!! I bought my rhizomes from some of the online homebrew shops. I would suggest reaching out to Yakima Valley Hops to see what they would suggest. They are great folks and have a great customer service. If you need info on how to reach out to them please let me know. Sláinte
