    I was part of a religious cult many years ago. Your description 5:20 - 5:45 was SPOT ON. You're right. Those personalities can creep in and it can happen before you know it. Everybody names Hitler, but he had a LOT of bad people working for him who loved the power he gave them. I noticed in that church/cult that no one person did it alone. They gave power to individuals who became as sergeants and got badge heavy and they loved pushing people around. Malignant is a good word for it. Please keep making your videos, Joe. They help people.

      @@DebHoeck absolutely! But those like Hitler and many others are clever enough to know how to play their supporters as well...if things get slippery for them, they deflect blame on a 'perceived common enemy'..
      When Hitler was being questioned by his rivals he took the path of hatred towards the Jews knowing no German would possibly object to that too violently, even if many did not really hate the Jews...it was more like ..this has nothing to do with us...and before long things went to another level and it became unstoppable...

    11:25...such a great point here. Life is tough and at times too much decisions to be made every single day can be overwhelming... hence joining a cult may seem very inviting...

    • @joenavarrobehaviorexpert
      @joenavarrobehaviorexpert  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is correct. Life is complex and some people just don't wanna deal with that so they place their lives in the hands of one individual. To make all the decisions for them. Comforting for some utterly terrifying to anyone who wants to exercise free agency.

    These are very interesting points about cults. Thank you for making this video! I’ve listened to a lot of cult stories and have always wondered what kind of minds are behind all the tragic and weird stuff they do. Also, some of this sounds very similar to being in an abusive relationship. (Some of them totally matches my ex’s behavior) Thanks for such an insightful video!

    Hi Joe,
    What about a collective narcissistic “leader” like Jehova’s Witness governing body or congregation elders? Contradicting them is not tolerated
    Thank you for your content. Personal favorite was your talk about Extraordinary people. “How you treat those that can do absolutely nothing for you”

    • @joenavarrobehaviorexpert
      @joenavarrobehaviorexpert  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Thank you. Yes that is such a good test, how do you treat those that can not do anything for you. It is such a valid test of character. I think you can have elders or bishops or priests or anything else, youth pastors, or even coaches be overly persuasive or down right anti-social permitting abuse, or scripting the life of others. I saw in Southern Utah a lot of cult like behavior with the belief systems placing all their trust in one person, usually a male. And no criticism was allowed at all. You saw the same thing with the rallies in Germany in the 1930s where the Brown Shirts would beat up anyone who did not salute or revere Hitler.

      I was a member of Jehovahs witnesses from birth to 2015. I woke up and realized they are a controlling cult 100%. So the answer is a resounding YES. keep up the videos, they are very educating, thank you.

    Literally defines the LDS (Mormon) church I grew up in. The mainstream one. Most members would laugh at being called a cult. They have no idea they're in one.

      I'm glad you bought the book. Narcissism have traits that we often see with cult leaders, but I wouldn't call narcissism cult. The narcissist over values themselves all they can think about is how great they are all they wanna talk about is themselves and of course they lie, and they cheat because they like to take shortcuts

    Joe, do you think other types of narcissists can also become cult leaders or the malignant type only? Do all of them have antisocial traits or only fall under narcissist?
    I'm a forensic psychologist major hoping to go into the FBI in the BAU. Hoping to do something with profiling focused on serial killers and abductions. Would you do more videos like these that go further in depth and even the types of personalities and profiles you find in spies, serial killers, abduction cases, rapists, and other types?

    • @joenavarrobehaviorexpert
      @joenavarrobehaviorexpert  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I think you can be a leader without having anti-social or predatory tendencies. But I also think there is certain portion of the population that is clinically gullible and will follow any belief or thought without much question or vetting.

    it started as cult jn the beginning when man started making rules about women and women body like what womens should do or what not to do ,what to wear and women not go in temple when they're on their periods and other myths and taboos and so on infact i think this patriarchy is also result of cult that still prevalent to some extent today.If you want to know more about cult then i suggest you that maybe you should read about vedic society of india especially rigvedic society and you get know many many things .i like the video so informative as always

    Cult destroyed me and my grandmother before... My grandmother ended up got her brain disfunctioned by all of her believes got Karma Bite Back, my case get fucked by both the group that believe in god and the one who believe in being millionaires I just successfully get out of there and taught then respect by pure animalistic violences that turn me into this tragic invulnerable person (toxic masculinity talk about this kind of invulnerable much)... I get it. Being that brutal invulnerable like Andrew Tate told about his life to make them fear I would recommend to help you get out of there.
