About the Cobra Racing Center Differential:
Dominate the track with Cobra Racing’s 54T (32P) center differential that’s compatible with the majority of the traxxas 1/10th scale models (see compatibility list below). This differential comes packed with 50k weight oil (and is fully customizable; if you want something heavier, it will take you 2 minutels to add the oil of your choice).
Why upgrade your spur assembly to a center differential instead?
Gain more control over your vehicle when bashing or cornering. The center differential’s main purpose is to transfer power to the front and rear differentials independently. Without a center differential, the power is typically split evenly between front and rear differential. This creates huge issues with control when bashing or cornering.
For instance, if you’re bashing and the rear wheels start losing traction, the center differential shifts more power to the front wheels, helping you regain control. If three wheels lose grip, the center differential will transfer power to the fourth wheel, ensuring better stability.
This feature is a game-changer when navigating tight corners. As you begin to lose control, the center differential redirects power to the wheels with traction, allowing you to handle corners with ease. The same applies when bashing; having independent control over your differentials is essential and makes both casual bashing and competitive racing far more enjoyable.
Compatibility:
Traxxas Ford F-150 Raptor R 4×4
Traxxas Rustler 4×4 VXL
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 VXL
Traxxas Hoss 4×4 VXL
Traxxas Rustler 4×4 Brushless
Traxxas Slash 4×4 Brushless
Traxxas Slash 4×4 Ultimate
Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL
Traxxas Stampexe 4×4 Brushless
What comes in the package?:
1 Center differential (complete) for the above models
1 motor mount adapter bearing (that goes in the motor mount)
1 center differential pinion gear (pre-installed)
A diff sends power to where the wheels spin the easiest, not the other way around. This is why you need locks for offroading.
If your rear is spinning, more power goes there, not less.
It's also why a center diff will let you hold both front or both rear wheels still, because power will go to the other axle.
A center diff’s job is basically to keep all wheels spinning at the same rate / speed. So if one side is spinning faster, power goes to the other side to keep wheel spin in sync. When you turn, front wheels need to turn faster as outside wheels turn furthest (why thinner oil is better then thicker for handling) so you can lock center diff to keep all wheels turning at the same rate, which would negatively impact your handling (but good
For straight runs)
@@CobraRacingRC again this is wrong. A center diff works like any other diff.
This means that if one wheel on one axle is in the air, it gets all the power. Again why you need lockers offroad. We've all seen stuck cars with only one wheel spinning. Thicker fluid offsets this somewhat, working a bit like a limited slip differential on a car.
It also means that if one axle is in the air, that axle gets all the power with a center diff. Same thing. Again, thick fluid helps, but this is what a diff does, even if it's a center diff.
You can try this with your own hands. Hold a wheel still. Does it get all the power to "keep all wheels spinning at the same rate"? Nope. The opposite happens. Now hold both sides of one axle.
Smart coming in at a lowet price then the traxxas center diff. Might have to order one soon
Thinner fluid in the center diff…..
Allows the front wheels unload more during acceleration which reduces how hard the truck accelerates. It does not give independent control of the different and give better control of the truck.
It decreases on-power steering (reduces oversteer)
It makes it easier to drive on rough surfaces
It gives the truck more off-power steering
Thicker fluid in the center diff……
Increases the all-wheel drive effect which results in better acceleration and better control of the vehicle
It increases on-power steering (reduces understeer)
It’s better suited on high-bite, smooth surfaces
It makes the truck more nervous to drive especially if a high-power motor is used - you might need to be smooth on the throttle
I've tried telling him this 😅
So basically it improves stability? I bought a mini max doesnt have one but i heard u can upgrade. Is it hard to install it? Or kinda plug and play. If u have never done it before.
Doesn’t have a Tekno end on .. fix that 😁🤙
If you’re referring to the output drives, we are working on our own (along with a dog bone style center driveshaft to go with it). Probably in the next 1-2 months.
Not saying this is a bad upgrade cos its not but it does weigh a lot and it will make you run hot i liked it but went back
Hey -
The extra weight with these center diffs is negligible. You shouldn’t over heat unless there is something else going on. Check gear mesh, and if that is good then most likely you’re geared too high and need to gear lower. These center diffs are thicker than normal spurs (which is great because it creates better contact with pinion). That adds a bit more weight but only slightly and as mentioned is negligible in the grand scheme of things. While all our parts are plug and play everybody has a slightly different set up. So you still need to fine tune things to dial it into your rig. And that goes for any part on the market.
@CobraRacingRC i bought all metal drivetrain and centre diff was running on original velinon and it was cooking so i upgraded to 4s and ran it on 3s hoping to stay cool but still it cooked, i took the diff out to ckean basically and couldn't get it back in so put ghe slipper back in just to use it for that day and its been fine since, i think i just found a limit that this truck cant go past tbh
Is it compatible with traxxas spurgears? Same bolt pattern?
@@Negern91 it’s complete with diff fluid (ready to go). We don’t use traxxas parts. All parts used are Cobra Racing parts (hardened material). 54T spur 32 pitch. Same as traxxas center diff oem..
The new Minimaxx uses the same parts as the 4x4 family for the center differential except the spurgear (mini 47t, 4x4 54t). That's why I'm asking😁👍🏽.
@ you can probably gear up the mini to 54t and gear down on the pinion to compensate. As long as spur diameter is same size (and won’t bind anywhere) you can make it work.
They are the same pitch (so same size for same tooth count) and the MiniMaxx won't allow a 54t to fit in there unfortunately :).
@ gotcha 👌
