The words of your comment ("He [Joe Duren] paints with it") are the best to express my feelings while watching and listening this video. (I'm French, 66yo). :-))
Thalis K. the “instrument” is called a clarinet, and it’s hearing a recording of this song that made me want to take up the king of the woodwind instruments!
Ya know what brought me here? A video of a blind guy with his head and neck looking down at a 90° angle, playing this song on his piano. And it sounded beautiful. 10/10 would listen to again
He's spinning the ball on his finger! Just take it! Take it! *Globtrotters score* ... That game was fixed! They were using a freakin' ladder, for God's sake!
Isaiah Thomas brought me here. He said this song played in his head when he would dribble.(for a rhythm) I am going to play this song on loop 24 hours a day now.
"Hey man who's that cat coming down the street?" "I don't know but it sounds to me like it's that whistling man with the bones." "He'll have himself a ball." ... "Yes that was that cat alright."
Wow! That was amazing. As Birdieberry said, I've never heard a clarinet played like that before. Joe Duren I believe was the name Louie said. I'd love to hear more of this guy!
When people only know this song because of basketball Edit: 5 years later and I am here to redact my comment, I'm glad you are here listening to this song, no matter where you heard it from first 😊
This meeting between you and I is the culmination of thousands of years of b-ball. This is b-ball in all its glory, this is the final game! It's just you and me, Barkley. No refs. No whistles. No rules. Just you, me, and Sweet Georgia Brown.
that was amazing : I've never pizzicato on clarinet before but that guy had it DOWN ! Awesome too was the old Dixieland style of 3 horns playing contrapuntally , only Armstrong played melody, sax and clarinet just blowin ! They made it look easy BUT ........you try it
Ever get that satisfying feeling when you have an instrumental piece stuck in your head, can't remember where it's from or what it's called, then suddenly find it?
Excellent. So wonderful to watch and hear this great performance. But I have to say - I was hoping to find Satchmo's version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" that I've listened to for the last 20 years - featuring Edmond Hall. Look that one up - it is a religious experience.
You can still get "real" clarinets but you're not going to fine too many playing them. In Jazz that's not DixieLand or NOLA style it was abandoned for the sax.
Same isiah Thomas is the man and I respect him so much worthy of the 1992 dream team that passion that I'm trying to be great and defeat everyone best player on the court
What a joy to my ears. Oh to live in such a marvelous time when music like this was what you would hear on a radio - not the garbage it's evolved into today.
Ok I play clarinet and that's my favorite song. I can hit the high notes but I have no idea how to do the short staccato notes. Anyone know how to do those??
2:37 first time I've ever heard a slap tongue solo. what a guy.
Didn't expect to find you here! You're one of my favorite creators on the site, keep up the fantastic work!
Hey Carlos
Benny is very talented with the clarinet! One of the reasons why I play clarinet today.
@@doc_hummer7089 squidward would be proud
Never heard that before! Thanks for naming it!
The man doesn't just play the instrument. He paints with it.
+Thalis Kalfigkopoulos he is beautifully talented
The words of your comment ("He [Joe Duren] paints with it") are the best to express my feelings while watching and listening this video. (I'm French, 66yo). :-))
Benjamin Asbury And plays it...
You can do both
Absolutely nice analogy
Thalis K. the “instrument” is called a clarinet, and it’s hearing a recording of this song that made me want to take up the king of the woodwind instruments!

We should know that Joe Darensbourg had only half a lung - after a severe illness. I could not even play that stuff with four lungs.
Joe darensbourg
I love the staccato solo from the clarinet, gives it a nice bounce

Very unique; After his heart problems Armstrong was playing a lot less solos.
Isaiah Thomas brought me here. He said this song played in his head when he would dribble.(for a rhythm) I am going to play this song on loop 24 hours a day now.

Chris Webber mentioned the song at 2018 Western Conference Semifinals Game 5, that's why I'm here. :)
