- Meet the Gorillas from the Krefeld Zoo in Germany! A new troop to the channel. Putting a name to their faces in this introduction video. The new Thursday series. There will be another four videos and then another Gorilla troop that I haven't filmed will follow this series.
The troop of seven gorillas live in the area called the Gorilla Garden.
Meet Silverback Gorilla Kidogo, Gorilla Oya, Muna and son Santu. Gorilla Miliki and sons Pepe, Bobóto.
Kidogo was born on November 15th 2000 at the Givskud Zoo in Denmark.
Gorilla Oya was born on June 9th 1988 at the Zoo Zürich Switzerland.
Gorilla Muna was born on March 6th 1989 at the Zoo Basel Switzerland. Her son Santu was born on July 14th 2021.
Miliki was born on February 20th 2006 at La Vallée des Singes in France.
Her son Pepe was born on May 6th 2015 and Bobóto on December 21st 2018. Both were born at Krefeld Zoo in Germany.
Filmed through a tire, little Santu is watching Dad Kidogo. Mother Muna is coming up right behind Dad and after her son glances up at her, she picks him up and they have some lunch.
Gorilla Oya is next up, the first thing you notice is her stiff finger. Quite a common injury in Gorillas it seems. Kera in Bristol and the little Aaarde at Chessington Zoo have the same injuries. Oya enjoys the bark of a stick and later a German turnip (Kohlrabi). Miliki has her food stuck in her teeth and she's trying to get it out. Pepe is munching on his food. He kind of reminds me a bit of a younger Lope. Last but not least Gorilla youngster Bobóto.
As it was just a brief visit I didn't get the chance to film too much of the troop. When I was there, the outside had been shut off and they were building the new outdoor habitat for the great apes. I was a bit too early as they are planning to open the new habitat on Gorilla Day on the 24th of September 2023. You can have a quick look at the outside on my other channel, the travel channel in a hyper-lapse walkthrough of the zoo at:

You might have heard about the Krefeld Zoo in the news when they had the awful tragedy on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2019. A fire broke out due to Chinese lanterns and 30 animals lost their lives including Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Orangutans, silvery marmosets, white-faced sakis endangered golden-lion tamarins, fruit bats, reptiles and birds. A horrendously sad day that many of us never forget.
The firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading from the ape house to the Gorilla garden. This is where Silverback Kidogo had his troop of seven are housed. Tambo (Muna's first son) moved in September 2020 to Zoo Safari de Thoiry.
Yay!!! ANOTHER gorilla family to follow and fall in love with!! Gorillas are one of the most amazing creatures on the planet! ❤❤❤
Yes, I agree. They are so adorable. They will eat your face off, but until that, they are mesmerizing.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!
Oh… I love this family! Miliki is such a good momma to her boys Boboto and Pepe! Santu is the cutest… he always looks so sleepy! Thank you for including them so we can watch them grow!
She really is. Always making sure he is ok and safe.
Yepiiii, Another Gorilla Troop to watch.😊👍🐒🐒🐒❤️
Thank you, Slogger Vlogger, for sharing.
My pleasure!
Awww…Santu! What a cutie. Thanks for your visit to show us this family!♥️
Subscribed . The more gorillas families the happier I am !
Thank you.
Another gorilla family!!!Yeah!Thx SV.cant wait to get to know them better.Santu is adorable, but aren't they all?!!!Hope you are well.🌄🦍🦍😉🐇
Yep they all adorable. 😁
Woo hoo! A new gorilla family to learn about! Oh how you spoil us SV!
The little one is extra adorable with his fluffy tail and grownup-looking face on a toddler body! I can’t remember which family or even which zoo or channel I’ve seen a toddler with a strikingly similar face.
It’s interesting how much older Oya looks than Muna given they’re almost the same age and Oya presumably hasn’t had children. I wonder if that’s impacted her negatively and made her eat more since she looks “extra curvy” especially in the face. All in all a very attractive, healthy and harmonious looking family. I appreciate seeing zoos keep family dynamics as close to how they are in the wild like one silverback with a harem of fairly young (at least still in their child-bearing years) like this. I imagine it’s beneficial for the gorillas and the zoo in several ways. One of which might be a deterrent against inappropriate behavior with offspring like you see in that particularly popular group in Japan (actually both families are rife with it unfortunately.) I wonder if in the wild there are as many instances of a silverback having at least one childless “wife” in his group. This seems to be pretty common in captivity.
Yippee! Of course, I am definitely subscribing. I’m glad we have another gorilla family to follow. It will be interesting to see how the family dynamics play out in this troop.
Thank you for subbing😊
I’m familiar with this group. Very good looking silverback and beautiful family.
Do you know how long they have been inside for because of the building work going on outside?
They all have healthy teeth, like it!
I keep thinking where ever I go in the world there’s going to be a Gorilla Family I get to visit 🥰
Yep that's my thought as well :-)
What a big beautiful family!! I will enjoy getting to know them.😊🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍
Omg Santu!!!! A channel I used to watch used to film them but it’s been so long. Thank you! Thank you SV!❤
😊 My pleasure. Wish I would have had more time there, but four more videos to come from the troop. :-)
To: @iristransforms - Lieke sometimes features Santu but I think it may be seven or more months having since, passed.
I have a fond memory of watching a video in which Santu, only days old, laying upon his mother's stomach, gained enough strength to lift his head up and with eyes beaming so innocent and wide, looked all around and absorbed what was most likely his first real impressions of his new world.
@@petermoody6147yes! That is the channel I was referencing. I’m so glad that SV is now recording this beautiful troop! One thing that stands out to me from Liekes videos was how beautiful their fur is, unlike any family I’d seen. Santu is still pretty small and looks like an old man, compared to his bros who’s had quite the growth spurt!😊
@@SloggerVloggeryou’re fantastic! I look forward to those 4 videos! Such a lovely family!❤
To: @iristransforms - Yes, indeed they do have beautiful coats.
Santu's 'old man' look seemed to be in evidence from the start.. The image I referred to, showed Santu with a 'newborn' wrinkly face and his head appeared small because his head hair looked as though it had been combed flat and back-over with gel. He looked slightly different to other newborns but an 'inner beauty' shone through.
OMG! Pepe. 😍
Aw! Santu looks like a little Ewok! Thanks so much! Had some crazy updates about Gentaro which definitely had me feeling down but this put me in a good mood! TY!🙋🏽
Também recebi essas atualizações, achei tudo absurdo, insano é sem lógica, falta planejamento, sempre faltou, eles não planejaram a médio e longo prazo.
Update on Gentaro , tell us more.
To: @My Skinnydip - If Lope is being moved as a member of a newly-created bachelor group then it my be an ideal opportunity to have Gentaro join, also.
@@SloggerVloggerIf I remember correctly, Gentaro (Kyoto zoo) will not be paired with Annie at Higashiyama zoo; he will likely be transferred to Chiba zoo after a new habitat is built (will take approximately 10 years); one of the females at Taipei zoo (Iriki or Tayari) will be moved to Chiba zoo to be paired with Gentaro (at some point after their sons are older); no plans for Annie or Kiyomasa at Higashiyama zoo yet. (Anyone, feel free to correct anything that is wrong or add anything I left out!)..😊
@@petermoody6147 that’s what I’m hoping! They learn so much being in a group!
Another cute family 💕🥰
They're all really pretty
Rostros hermosamente singulares ❤
Thank you for a sweet video 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for watching!
Well.. hello beautifuls...❤
This is exciting❤❤❤
Boa tarde! Estou começando a conhecer a família, ainda não sei os nomes, sigo várias famílias, amo os gorilas ❤❤❤
You're in the right place. Lots of different gorilla troops on this channel and another new troop coming up after this series. 😊
Ha, ha! SV, I have just commented on a video about the gymnastic abilities of chimpanzees.
That was yesterday, and today you feature a silverback who I also referred to in the same comment.
Perhaps you may enlighten viewers to the skills of Kidogo, if not by video then perhaps in your description.
😁 Unfortunately I didn't get to know him too well as it was just a fleeting visit.
To: Slogger Vlogger - I believe he was only twelve when he arrived at Krefeld and was initially homesick.
Out of nowhere, howvever, he began to show a unique talent with his gymnastic skills.
Unfortunately I think he may have only been captured with still photographs but he was on one occasion, able to traverse a tightrope completely upright and free-handed.
One of his specialities is to drop from four metres high from a tree' like a lead balloon whilst keeping his arms straight and pinned to his sides.
Thank you Peter. I did find those stills. That is amazing. Hopefully they soon get to enjoy there outside again. I'm not sure how long there were inside for as they were unable to go outside because of the building work that was going on.
To: @SloggeVlogger.- It makes one wonder if he was like Lope, when he was younger.
I am pleased that he has 'settled in' and become a father.
I have a particular affection for his son, Santu.
