I would have caught it and carried it as far away down the river I could go and tighten an elastic around its beak so that it couldn't quack for its mother and waited till just before night fall and watch it panick desperately trying to call for its mother that forgot about the stupid thing hours ago and continued on on without another thought of the baby duck.
