What is the purpose of that rod and why does it need to be replaced?

A quick Google search resulted in this explanation: “The purpose of an anode rod is to attract the sediment and corrosive elements (like minerals in the water) so that they corrode the anode rod rather than the inside of your water heater tank. In essence, an anode rod works to protect your water heater from corrosive elements that can damage your water heater.”
You have to replace it once it becomes corroded with a new one so that it can start the cycle over again. Hope this helps!

@@AdventureswithTuckNae thanks. I better check mine then. I've had the trailer 2 years and never checked it. I never leave water in the water heater when I'm not using it either though.
