Try to look into SB19, they were trained by the same people that trained JL. they are trained to self-suffiecient + Filipino culture is all about kindness teamwork(community based culture) and help each other in times of need.

JL's character has been very consistent. From being kind and compassionate idol in the PH, the same character has been shown in the Universe League. This only means that when u are doing it on a daily basis, there is no need to pretend. Its a character that u cant fake for a long time coz at some point, true character will show especially in difficult times., its something he's been taught from the beginning and tells us of his upbringing. JL embodies a true idol characteristics.
Wow, JL'S popularity became huge already even though UL hasn't ended yet, making people research about his personality. Lmao. Mind you, I met JL way before UL and HE IS KIND AND LOVEABLE as always. I think one thing to consider is that this is NOT an individual survival show. The winner will be a TEAM. So JL helping his team mates is just normal for a contestant who wants his team to win. Any weak member in the team will drag everybody down. Also, their mentors told them to help each other and look for weaknesses.
I think it shows the culture of Filipino people, being friendly, helpful, and kind. And since his been in a group here before, he knows the importance of teamwork, especially in these groups. Besides thats what their mentors told them as well they can do individually good but one of them might messed up the whole performance so they should help one another to improve so they did, and JL was the one who started it.
Instead of making many assumptions talk directly to the guy or to his friend family and anyone that has interacted with him even before the UL. One thing I assure you Filipino culture is competitive but always seek fairness and kindness. We accept that if we are defeated, we know how to celebrate for other successes. As long as no cheating has been done or unfair treatment.
