You put them in a hyper vulnerable spot where even if they would have said yes, there becomes a chance that their survival hinges upon a yes, and may feel extremely manipulated. The thought that goes through the mind, if I say no right now, will they crash the plane and kill us both? Don't do that to a loved one.
