Warsaw Village Band: Polish folk tradition blended with modernity | Music Interview 2024

Founded in 1997, the Warsaw Village Band emerged as a response to the restrictive music scene and increase in propaganda that occurred during the time of Communism in Poland. Seeking inspiration from their roots, they delved into the folklore and archaic sounds of their ancestors; they traveled from village to village and encountered musicians whose music was at risk of disappearing. They are dedicated to simultaneously preserving and revitalizing traditional Polish music. They incorporate elements of trance and punk into folk music and achieve a high-energy, electronic feel primarily through the use of acoustic instruments. They are appreciated by rock audiences and traditionalists alike, and the New York Times lauded them as a pivotal force on the world music stage calling their style “the sound of globalization.”
The Warsaw Village Band has performed over 500 concerts across four continents, earning praise for their energetic and revolutionary performances. Their latest album, “Uwodzenie,” and their global tours continue to showcase their dynamic and innovative approach to music.

Założona w 1997 roku, Warsaw Village Band powstała w odpowiedzi na ograniczoną scenę muzyczną i wzrost propagandy, które miały miejsce w czasach komunizmu w Polsce.
