- As a wannabe filmmaker, you study lots of stuff that film twitter deems as important. Which means, I am obligated to watch the Oscar nominees and care about how discriminative and harsh their ratings and awards are towards certain genres, specifically animation. And after seeing the nominees of the 2024 Oscars, I am angry.
Expect an analysis of Fantastic Mr. Fox’s sensory processing disorder allegory out sooner or later. Latest date: March 2024.

not only did they make spider-man: across the spider-verse got only one nomination, but of course Daniel Pemberton was replaced by (john) williams (Indiana Jones). they like to nominate him (williams) anytime.
but tbh, the golden globes, critics choice, and the BAFTA awards gave a (little) respect to ATSV for original score.
it's so painfully disrespectful for them to nominate williams instead of pemberton. pemberton's score was fire.

Look at the box office totals for most of these movies....no one saw them.

I would recommend actually going and seeing some of the best picture nominees. A lot of them are actually really good. It's worth broadening your horizons and would give your anger a bit more credence if you actually went to see some of the movies. If you have to pick one to see I would HIGHLY recommend Poor Things. Honestly, it was the best movie I saw from 2023 and may be one of my favourites.

past lives was the real snubfest that movie RULES and drserved director atleast

The Mario Movie should have received a Nominee, but they didn’t care for it which I’m a little bit pissed off.
Probably because it came from Illumination and was a Video Game adaptation. And while I do enjoy it, I feel like a Best Animated Feature nominee would’ve been a ~bit~ much. At least best original song.
But The Mario Movie was absolutely horrid. The academy shouldn't be pressured to nominate a movie just because babies liked it. If you like the movie that's great and I'm very happy for you but you have to be honest that it was nowhere near worthy of getting any sort of higher recognition.
Well to be fair spider verse doesn’t really have an ending. Also the Mario movie is not that good I’m sorry that being said I also think elemental shouldn’t win. And to be honest I would like if a more adult focused movie won best animated like imagine something like robot dreams won
spiderverse handles a lot of mature ideas and arcs, I know several people who balled their eyes out to everything with Gwen’s relationship with her father and Miles’ entire arc, including myself.
I don’t think Gerwig or Robbie were robbed at all. Even if you don’t consider that they’re both nominated in other categories, the movie just isn’t that well directed and Margot’s performance wasn’t on the level of the other nominees. Gosling steals all his scenes and it’s a genuinely great comic performance so that’s more forgivable.
Ryan Gosling getting nominated but not Margot Robbie isn’t ironic because they’re both in different categories and Margot Robbie only lost to other women.
I think he was referring to the fact that she got nominated at every other award show this season and Gosling did not.
