Trust - are the goods and services we pay for good enough to trust.? How do we provide greater security for our families, our personal information, our stuff that isn't for others to see or profit from. This introduction to home security should be the starting point to becoming security aware, and why security is so poorly considered, and why we need to take control so we determine who and what to trust, not just accept marketing. We need to provide our own protection. This is what I've learnt, together with introductions to the components of a more secure home network, principles that will make our home more secure, from an expert with experience and the ability to share it. Its accessible! Way ahead (but not in the clouds) of the usual how to videos I often encounter. Thank you so much!
Love the video, would love a practical list of hardware and software services at a budget for practically implementing what you just outlined. I still am lost on what to buy, subscribe to, and use after watching, despite the content being excellent and the explanation clear, a followup with implementation example would help tremendously. Thanks hope to see more on this topic from you.
@@TechTutorialsDavidMcKone Sure, perhaps a budget T620 or other SSF pfsense build from scratch. It could make a series where each piece of the network is put together. I have a feeling that a lot of budget conscious new networkers would be very interested in such content.
Good description of possible situations I wasn't aware of. How do I go about protecting myself from these problems? Are there special settings somewhere?
It's all about putting your different computers into different security areas That's done by taking advantage of VLANs on a switch and controlling access between these VLANs with a firewall The firewall is there to prevent direct attacks from the Internet but also to minimise the impact if a Smart Home device is ever compromised

Let me have a think on that in terms of a future video

@@TechTutorialsDavidMcKone Thanks again. I'll start digging around and figure out what a VLAN is and how to turn them on.
Great Video!
Glad to hear you liked the video
What's your opinion on Firewalla for basic home user
I've never used it so I can't say
I configure Enterprise firewalls as part of my job and so outside of those big names I've only focused on pfSense
@@TechTutorialsDavidMcKone okay thank you
