    I think that Apple could make an amazing entry into the ePaper market. But they would have to remove the USB-C port to make it even thinner than the Boox Go 10.3.

    What do you think about an Apple Paper device? Let me know below. And yeah, I think it would need to be quite a different device to their iPads!

      Apple paper will likely never happen because consumers won’t want a limited spec and low refresh device that can’t stream content. However I know it would change the reach of epaper devices if done correctly. Imagine a b/w 300+ppi device which can sync with other Apple products and apps like notes, calendar, reminders, etc.…possibly use some Apple intelligence features via paired iPhone/mac for processing. Maybe even something like math notes (calculator through handwriting) The idea is they take a market of limited devices and do what they do best…Maximize the hardware with software for powerful workflows. They could transform epaper into ai paper. I think the direction of tech apple is going is in AR like vision…unfortunately Apple isn’t making standalone devices for minimal tasks anymore i.e iPod. Hopefully they do for our sake. If they did I’m sure they could set a trend for epaper to become the standard in education and the workplace for a focused lifestyle.

      Yeah, but I imagine they would see their apple paper as a part of their ecosystem, and see their ideal human as taking off the goggles and kicking back with the best digital paper. I've been thinking for some time that they might bring an e-ink iPad, but now I think that they would prefer launching a whole new category of device and make it clear that this is not a multimedia place, but a drawing, reading, writing place.

    If you asked me if I would be fine without a usb c port on a tablet (whether it is lcd, oled, or even e-ink), I would say no. But with dedicated e-ink notetaking devices, I would be fine with getting rid of the usb c port as they do not consume as much power as a normal tablet. At the same time, it would be interesting to see how they could ensure that they are structurally strong while making it thinner.

    07:49 - *Carbon neutral products* made in Chinese factories, powered by coal fuelled power-stations! You know it makes sense! 😁

      Yeah, I looked into the certification though and it seems pretty legit. I think that they must be using some offsetting. Fingers crossed China will up the production of solar and that's the planet's future! :-)

    don't want to burst your bubble on the "carbon neutral", but I don't think its all its cracked up to be. My understanding is that companies can just give money to some eco group to "offset" their carbon footprint. who knows where the money goes from there. I don't actually think it means its was made with eco friendly means.
    hoping I'm wrong though

    Does thiner tend to fragility? or is that off-set by the device being lighter such as if dropped? As most, I love better aesthetics but not if it tends towards fragility.

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, I think that there will certainly be a trade off there, but I think that there is a direction of travel there. I guess more plastic will allow some flexing before breaking.

    • @yensteel
      @yensteel หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the engineering. Most devices that became thinner have to compromise somewhere. For the iPad Pro 13 2024, they added a spine in the middle to strengthen it. It actually bends easily if you bend it the other way (source: jerryrig). The corners also encounter a denser impact as the force is more concentrated. I don’t know whether lightness offsets that, but the math can be pretty clear cut. Anyways, materials have limits, so extremes like ultra-thinness are generally not recommended.
      Flexural strength is a little off topic, but it’s essentially the strength to resist bending. A material is much weaker in terms of compression and tensile forces when it’s thinner.

      @@yensteel Makes sense, my A5X is built like a bus which maybe why it's still working after numerous drops and is why I have concerns regarding the soon to be released, slim, A5X2. I wouldn't say I'm clumsy but will confess to being heavy handed with tech.

    I keep wondering myself if Apple (and Samsung etc.) will at some point start releasing e-paper devices...

    • @karlmunford7000
      @karlmunford7000 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've thought the same too for a long time, but acknowledge that unless Apple can source or build their own e-ink screens... they will still be limited by the current refresh rate even if as Boox, they dedicate a chip to clean-up the screen, as there are currently physical limitations to just how fast the cells can shift the particles within them. Currently, the screen-bottle-neck is what is holding e-ink from bursting onto the larger market.

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent points both. Yeah, I imagine that apple would work with e-ink to develop an exclusive variation of colour e-ink which they could call, "the best e-paper ever."
