Thanks for this review, Graham, really appreciate your honesty. I was umming and ahhing over this and decided to not take the risk based on a couple of financial issues at the time, but also with Mondo's lack of track record and my lack of faith in them pulling it off. If only they'd put the effort into the figure that they did on the box. To my eyes it looks like so many bits of it were made by different companies and the end result is the figure doesn't feel cohesive at all. The complete lack of overall weathering is a huge giveaway. But that jacket being such a small fit and the other issues are too damning. I do have Mondo's BTAS Batman and Mr Freeze, liked that line, but again, not without issues and ended up giving up on collecting more as the figures were no longer distroed in my country and then too hard to get off Mondo directly. This would be third party figure of the year, but yeah, it's a first party failure to me.

I’m super excited to get my timed edition hopefully next week. Dhl messed up my first shipment before it left China, so I got another one sent out and it’s in transit. While there are cons to the figure from what I’m seeing, $265 USD is a fair price to pay considering all the alternatives are customs that cost anywhere from $1k to over $3k I’ve seen. Idk I’m sure I’ll love the figure. Thanks for the review!

I love the character but the figure I'd give it a 6 out of 10. The paint especially on the hair makes it look like a toy I used to play with as a child.

Got mine yesterday, PROS...head scultpt better then i thought it would be ,spider and dog look great ,figure has a kurt russell build ,nice creative box ,muttiple wrist pegs ,./.CONS... price for what we got ,jacket,short and limited arm movement ,i got the weird leg also (pretty sure everyone is gonna have that problem ) ,quality of body ,no hat od goggles i think they should have added a hat instead of energy into a fancy box ..thats ok i with try to make a hat and definitely build a cool diorama dog cage scene but this is my first mondo fig and prob the last i will pick up

They should have definately included the hat and glacier glasses maybe even a bottle of JB, the hat might have been an issue due to the amount of sculpted hair and would have ended up looking funky. Mondo would then have to go the removeable hair piece or seperate headsculpt with hat option which would definately increase the price point. I hope the diorama build goes well, take care of yourself and happy collecting 👍🏻

Mine just arrived and I love it.. I'm not sure if you mentioned or knew this but he basically has 3 wardrobes. You can take off his jacket and he will be in his green jumpsuit and you can remove that and he will be in his grey shirt with his white thermal underneath.

What a surprise to see you are reviewing this figure. I agree, it has some cons ans pros. It's a decent representation but it's lacking in certain points. I made my Mcready with the Norris spiderhead a couple of years ago. Classic horror movie!

I don't understand how the eyes moved that far apart in production. While I didn't expect the paint to be as good as the prototype Viola Wittrocka painted and showed on her Instagram page, the eyes were perfectly placed on that head not even a year ago.

Shame about that wonky leg. Decent-looking figure (all things considered) with solid accessories. Never saw The Thing because I heard it was pretty gruesome, and I have a low tolerance for gore. With a better paintjob the headscuplt would be more than decent. You could try a subtle wash of thinned down acrylic (mask the eyes) for a fair improvement. BTW that jacket is based on a US airforce bomber jacket. DID have made a few (real leather) that can probably be picked up loose online and Battlegear toys (website) did at some point make a small range of these. Give it a body swap too mate imo. Replace the gunbelt. That along with the weathering you were going to do and it will shine!

Love this film, top 5 for me , really iconic 💥this is a nearly but not quite figure…I admit I am being somewhat unfair as I have seen the you tube video for Kjun arts custom piece with rooted hair which is unbelievably impressive as I am sure was the price😂 this figure could certainly do with more weathering and I know you are a stickler for 1/6th scale clothing… the jacket is just too bulky and brand new looking isn’t it ? and I am sorry about the wonky leg. As a character representation in a collection I think it is good to have and I do like the accessories, I think this is a good starting point and with some modding I reckon you could up the score for this guy, would be Interested to see it again if you took on this project? . This figure is almost there in every department but manages to narrowly miss just about every target unfortunately 🫤 I dont get why some manufacturers seem to think we are all mad keen weathering experts, its not like at any point in the movie he looks like he has just put on brand new clothes 🙄 I perhaps didn’t look at the jacket enough in the review (probably because I was too focussed on the annoying leg QC issue which really shouldn’t happen at this price point) but I agree its way too bulky. Like you say a good kicking off point for modding but straight out of the box its not the 1/6 scale mass produced definitive MacReady I was hoping for….for that I will have to wait. Mine is on the way! I actually ordered 3 of the timed edition with the hopes that it will be sought after and increase in value like many of their figures have. Hopefully you can get the leg worked out, I’ll let you know if mine is that way or not

@@goFigure623 got it today and luckily it doesn’t have the leg issue. The head actually looks better in person than I expected (eyes don’t seem too far apart) Actually my biggest complaint is the jacket being too short. I know they want to show the belt but it still could be atleast an inch longer
Poor quality control from Mondo regarding the leg. Easy to be critical but it still looks like a good figure if a little off in areas. The dog could have been better but what a box 📦 👌

I think both head sculpts are sculpted too chubby, they should of slimmed his face down a bit but not bad though but that's my first impression on the face.

IMO you are right the face is to chubby around the cheeks, Kurt Russell has high cheek bones which taper towards his jaw line, this isn’t helped by the beard being too think overall. Also the eyes and eye brows are the wrong shape which adds to the issue. Unfortunately this is not the the definitive mass produced MacReady I was hoping for 😕 Take care of yourself and happy collecting.
An epic character, let down by poor materials & tailoring for Hot Toys money. Such a shame. Thankfully the creature accessories save it - but the figure is really poor. 4/10 - Great video review by the way!

Sorry, those proportions are terrible. Arms look way too short, and it looks like a cheap toy. I know some futzing with the clothing and weathering will help. The sculpts are off. The only reason you can see MacReady is because of the hair and beard, and the beard is too short.

Love this film, top 5 for me , really iconic 💥this is a nearly but not quite figure…I admit I am being somewhat unfair as I have seen the you tube video for Kjun arts custom piece with rooted hair which is unbelievably impressive as I am sure was the price😂 this figure could certainly do with more weathering and I know you are a stickler for 1/6th scale clothing… the jacket is just too bulky and brand new looking isn’t it ? and I am sorry about the wonky leg. As a character representation in a collection I think it is good to have and I do like the accessories, I think this is a good starting point and with some modding I reckon you could up the score for this guy, would be Interested to see it again if you took on this project? . Thanks as always mate 👍🏻 Absolutely 💯 for me The Thing is up there with likes of Alien, Terminator and Predator and arguably John Carpenters best movie. This figure is almost there in every department but manages to narrowly miss just about every target unfortunately 🫤 I dont get why some manufacturers seem to think we are all mad keen weathering experts, its not like at any point in the movie he looks like he has just put on brand new clothes 🙄 I perhaps didn’t look at the jacket enough in the review (probably because I was too focussed on the annoying leg QC issue which really shouldn’t happen at this price point) but I agree its way too bulky. Like you say a good kicking off point for modding but straight out of the box its not the 1/6 scale mass produced definitive MacReady I was hoping for….for that I will have to wait. Mine is on the way! I actually ordered 3 of the timed edition with the hopes that it will be sought after and increase in value like many of their figures have. Hopefully you can get the leg worked out, I’ll let you know if mine is that way or not

@@goFigure623 got it today and luckily it doesn’t have the leg issue. The head actually looks better in person than I expected (eyes don’t seem too far apart) Actually my biggest complaint is the jacket being too short. I know they want to show the belt but it still could be atleast an inch longer
Poor quality control from Mondo regarding the leg.
Easy to be critical but it still looks like a good figure if a little off in areas.
The dog could have been better but what a box 📦 👌

I think both head sculpts are sculpted too chubby, they should of slimmed his face down a bit but not bad though but that's my first impression on the face.

IMO you are right the face is to chubby around the cheeks, Kurt Russell has high cheek bones which taper towards his jaw line, this isn’t helped by the beard being too think overall. Also the eyes and eye brows are the wrong shape which adds to the issue. Unfortunately this is not the the definitive mass produced MacReady I was hoping for 😕 Take care of yourself and happy collecting.

still they did much better job on the headsculpt than present toys terminator versions lol

An epic character, let down by poor materials & tailoring for Hot Toys money. Such a shame. Thankfully the creature accessories save it - but the figure is really poor. 4/10 - Great video review by the way!

I seem to be in the minority but I like my bases clean and black. Logos and textures, to me, are gaudy and toyish.

Sorry, those proportions are terrible. Arms look way too short, and it looks like a cheap toy. I know some futzing with the clothing and weathering will help. The sculpts are off. The only reason you can see MacReady is because of the hair and beard, and the beard is too short.

Mondo make some of the most overpriced figures I've ever seen. For the price and the quality I've seen much better elsewhere, alot of Mondo stuff look like oversized Neca figures.

Mines for sale...I hate it. Toy like, dreadful sculpts, disproportionate overall, love the box and accessories thou...gutted as I met John Carpenter in Brighton once and love his films...AND IT Pronounced BOW TEEN

Tis figure is hot garbage for this price. Hot toys charge same price and gives 20 times the quality. i cancelled mine after looking on reviews
