Just to clarify, Zalando is not good or bad quality. It's just a shop with many brands, from low price/quality to high quality and price. You can also buy there Jack Wolfskin jackets, for example.
I met Yvonne at Düsseldorf Flughafen after battling myself to go and talk her or not. But I am glad that I did after gathering some courage. She was so nice and kind. I couldn't complete my conversation because I got a call and she had to leave meanwhile. I would like to say that it was wonderful meeting you that day, Yvonne! You made my day that day!! Thank you for these videos!!
hey! i saw you guys a while ago in Mannheim, but i didn`t want to disturb your weekend by fanboying 😁 i just wanted to say thank you. your videos have made my adaptation in Germany much, much easier!
My first winter here i got my jacket 2nd hand with the advice of a german friend at my uni, and it was a good pick! I was warm even with -14c!. But all those tips are quite handy! Great for anyone that doesn't have an idea about winter jackets! Also, i saw one of those textile impregnation washes at Declathon the other day :)
Breathable = atmungsaktiv is a very important criteria for a jacket in northern Germany, especially if you are cycling or walking longer than 15 -20 min. Best jacket brand is Finkid for kids and Vaude for adults.
The problem with second hand Jackets (I had this problem) is that if the characteristics are not stated on the label, there's no way of knowing how warm or waterproof the jacket is, whereas in other stores like Decathlon you will see the jackets offered as: Resists up to -20°C, Waterproof 15000mm. If you are on a tight budget, and don't have german friends to help you, take your time googling the most you can about each jacket that looks Winter-y that you see at the second hand store. Great video, it would have helped me a a lot 2 weeks ago haha.
Got mine in the recent flomarkt for just 30 EUR. It was a bit tight, but you can just wear long shirt and wear that becos it is very thick. But I am again looking to buy a real and new one.
Small budgeting tip: the second hand shop Rot Kreuz Laden usually carries great winter jackets from the mentioned brands but for a very affordable price. Mine was even new when I bought it there for less than 20€.
After 3 failed attempts to find a good winter jacket I find the Parka of Didriksons is the best winter jacket, waterproof and wind proof, light and you can move quite comfortably. I got it for 100€ on Zalando Lounge while the full price in Galeria was around 200€
haha for me this topic is so complicated because i really like minimal/"stylish" clothing. The Jack Wolfskin seems a good option :) thanks for the video!
Great information per usual👍 I like to use less space for clothes, so I used to have 2-in-1 jacket that had a removable inner layer that I could also wear with or without the rain protective outside with the hood and I love it. But after perhaps two decades and intense use it is now falling apart in some areas and it seems very difficult to find a replacement with similar features ... the removable warm inside layer, hood, zipper based pockets on the in- and outside, longer but not too long, "relatively" light and no buttons/all zippers. I still haven't found a proper replacement ... these don't seem to be made like this anymore. But I will also check your recommended sources online and in the physical world, since we have a few here in Munich that I haven't checked out yet. In the past whenever I wanted to support traditional "physical" stores and I went there e.g. to get some business shirts, they had almost nothing in that store and always mentioned to order it online! What an irony, they complain about people not visiting stores anymore and then refer you to go online because they only have only very few things in their expensive store with many employees and customer service. What a waste of money and human resources, when all they do is what a URL does, redirect you to a place to get what you want. 🙄 You are both such a German stereotype, with sandals and socks 🤣 but you are simply the best and look really cute, no matter what foot-ware you prefer at home😘
Thanks for sharing your experience! Have you had a look in Jack Wolfskin? Last time we went to a store they had a few of those 2 in 1 jackets. I don't know if they have all the features you're looking for, but maybe they do :) Hahaha true about the stores. Sometimes one makes an effort to go to a physical shop, just to be told to buy it online! But hey, we tried :)
@@holger_pI have that and it doesn't do it for me, but everybody has a different sensitivity to cold weather and here in Munich it's always more extreme than in most other places... So for the Düsseldorf climate, where I grew up I agree with you.
That's obviously good advice over there. However, for me >50 EUR on a jacket is too much. I got lucky my first time buying a jacket in Germany, since I already brought one from my home country which was warm but not water resistant. I bought some unknown brand from Woolworth that looked fine and fit me well, it costed 15 EUR after a 40% discount. It's been three years and I've never regretted the decision and never bought another winter jacket. My advice, bring some jacket along from home, don't rush into buying, take your time, visit multiple stores and have a more experienced and price-conscious friend help you out.
You are absolutely the best!) Have you ever considered making a German version (at least a shorter version) of your videos? That would also be so helpful both in terms of the content and the language ) just a thought )))
Layering is so very necessary when hiking ... if you walk up a mountain the winter, you are cold when starting, on your up-hill walk you will be creating massive amounts of heat, so you step by step take layers off and when walking down in the late afternoon, while you have usually 6 degrees Centigrade less per 1000m, its being way colder around you while needing nearly no energy downhill, producing no heat, you might freeze your butt off unless you have plenty of layers to put back on again.
@@simplegermany But running up the stairs from the lowest level of the subway system will also cause a major boost of heat to be dissipated ... so one optional layer is also ideal for the city
@Simple Germany: Nice informative video Jen & Yvonne. It would have been great had you mentioned some tips on how & when can we get some much needed discounts on good quality branded winter jackets? Maybe in off season or end of winter?
Thanks for your feedback. We came more from the viewpoint that if it’s your first winter now, you can’t wait for post season to get a proper winter jacket. That’s why we mention different budget retail stores 😉
@ : well this is my 2nd winter in Germany and I haven’t bought a good quality jacket yet. But I will follow the suggestions in your video and hopefully buy a good one this time.
We buy ours at DM and to be honest, rarely use it because the city where we live (Düsseldorf) is so windy the umbrellas break easily. We have an old umbrella from Yvonne's parents that is bigger and sturdier, but we rarely use it as well.
Goosh! Love youuuu girls! Are you actually reading my mind? Hahaha because I want and I have to buy a jacket because wiiiinter is coming ahahah and I am absolutly latin not prepared hahahaha.
Thank you both. It is so helpful. Could you please provide the Jack Wolfskin jacket code and name of jacket black one that it is showed in this video? Thank you...
We don't have a specific link for that jacket. You could go to their shop, or their online shop or Globetrotter's online shop as well (www.simplegermany.com/globetrotter/)
Get 2-3 Jackets for 10, 0 and -10 degrees. For 10, this is more like fall/november, not yet really winter. With a sweater underneath, it might be good for 0 also. But for -10 you need something extra and something longer covering your butt. ...If you need even less, somewhere in the mountains, get a ski-jacket, but that's kinda expensive.
My husband and I spent three years in Germany. We’re thinking of moving back, this time, we have three children. Off topic, but is there a need for writers in Germany?

Thank you so much for saying hi! 👋 hope you had a nice reunion with your family 😊
❤❤❤❤❤ Awmmmmmm
As an international willing to come and settle soon in Germany, i found theses informations really Helpful.
Much love for both of you❤❤
Just to add, the typical term for "water resistent" in German is "wasserabweisend". Great video, thanks!
So underrated but very important topic. Thanks for this video!
As a nurse, the comment about the Cold and liver schocked me but then i remembered u were not in my class😅
This is great timing as its my first time experiencing winter and i just bought a jacket that i know will not be enough for winter
hey! i saw you guys a while ago in Mannheim, but i didn`t want to disturb your weekend by fanboying 😁

Super nice you had the help of a German friend! That could have also been a tip :D
Thank you... that was clear, well-articulated, and very helpful.
You ladies are geniuses. I thought this would not interest me. I ride my bike in rainy cold weather, and was wondering what to buy. Thank you
Glad to help 🙂
These tips are very legit! I can 100% concur.
Great video! Could you please make a similar video but for winter shoes?
I find it difficult sometimes to get good quality winter shoes.

Thank you so much. Your video was on time.
Fpr persons with few money: there are second hand shops which sell jackets of good quality for a small prize

make one for Shoes as well and everything else that is necessary... good stuff.

@@simplegermany Thanks so much for the hint💗 I instantly found what I need and ordered it for 25% less than on the website of the official store 👍
Today you can just take a hoody/sweater with zipper as a jacket, and a thinner rainproof layer for use all year around.
@@holger_pI have that and it doesn't do it for me, but everybody has a different sensitivity to cold weather and here in Munich it's always more extreme than in most other places... So for the Düsseldorf climate, where I grew up I agree with you.
@n1vca in Munich, they additionaly have a sensibility for fashion. 🙃
Thank you for the text in the video to recall the word to emphasize.
Very good topic, very underrated. I hope brands sponsor you to feature them:)
Columbia have good winterjackets for a good price they are warm , good against wind and waterproof
Very Useful Information. Thank you !!
Great people is here again!

Definitely! We would dress very differently if we were climbing a mountain ☺️. This video was targeted more for city life.

@simplegermany I like word Regenshower ☔️
I just bought a new winter jacket last year with a pretty good discount a few days before Christmas - but online.
Süüß (: But really important! Also had to give advices about winter clothing for people wich didn't experience winter
Vielen Dank! This is useful, as I come from a tropical country 😅.

Can you tell more about the layering? I mean should I wear a Thermoleggin? and which one is better?
I really love your work
Great people is here again! Das Autobahn!!!
Whats your opinion on North Face Jackets ?
I’m we love the brand. The jackets are sometimes too puffy for our taste. It’s a matter of preference ☺️
@ Thanks for reply 😉
What about Wellensteyn Jacket ?
How is TKmaxx,Primark and NewYorkers for Winter Jacke?
We would not buy from these shops. They are known for one-time use clothing. We rather invest more money to invest in higher longer lasting quality.
My husband and I spent three years in Germany. We’re thinking of moving back, this time, we have three children. Off topic, but is there a need for writers in Germany?
Shortest opinion war in history 12:45-12:50 😂
The best winter jacket I got it was from Ellesse
no way
I was literally searching through coats on Zalando right now.......😁
Wellenstein best
When she says Jack Wolfskin, I know this video is 100% German approved.
😅
